CBeebies weirdness

Jujuheyhey · 22/03/2016 22:44

Home with poorly DD, she is 8 but illness had her regressing into watching CBeebies. Is it just me who reckons Katy from I Can Cook secretly hates kids?

Also wtf is going on in Balamory? Who thought it would be a good idea to have a Scottish policeman trying to dance calypso?!

Hope she's better tomorrow, I can't take another day of it...

MrsHathaway no way! Shock mine have a double barrelled name so hopefully will refer to them as their whole name lol
Poor Tony Welch!

twinniesmumma · 24/03/2016 18:26

Hopefully no one **^

TwentyCupsOfTea · 24/03/2016 18:38

The wicker Man theory with pc plum getting it has made me cry with laughter!!!
I don't have a tv anymore but some of this sounds insane enough to get one!

marshmallowpies · 24/03/2016 18:41

There is only one thing I REALLY hate on CBeebies and that is Baby Jake Angry Angry Angry

It is SO awful and the weird uncanny valley animated dancing baby gives me the creeps.

dolkapots · 24/03/2016 18:44

Does anyone else ever watch children's cartoons and read deeper messages into them? I strongly suspect Thomas the Tank Engine uses characters to portray Biblical events/figures. There was a double decker bus that was bold and kept getting sent to a field to repent.....

I watched an episode of Clifford the big red dog thing once and could not believe what was said. It was very deep stuff relating to jealousy in relationships and the alpha male feeling threatened etc.

Raahh · 24/03/2016 18:58

dolka Thomas was originally written by aReverend W Awdry, so you could be right!

HungryHorace · 24/03/2016 19:00

It wouldn't be a surprise with TtTE as the original books were written by a Reverend.

Shelby2010 · 24/03/2016 19:11

Bing gives me the creeps. I'm convinced that the Flop-type creatures have kidnapped the 'children' and are bringing them up in some kind of cult. Where are the parents???!!

afterthegoldrush · 24/03/2016 19:15

Fucking woolly and tig

I will just leave it there and bow as I step back...

TheCrumpettyTree · 24/03/2016 19:58

Twirlywoos is loved by my toddler in our house. The only good thing about woolly and tig is knowing that twirlywoos is on straight afterwards.

BelfastSmile · 24/03/2016 20:53

DS adores the Twirlywoos and so do i. They're so cute and sweet and funny! He won't really watch anything else (occasionally Bing).

OccamsRazorSharpner · 24/03/2016 22:22

Sid is absolutely fuckme gorgeous and features often in my fantasy world. Also was super nice to my dc in rl, what a guy.

As you were.

MrsMook · 24/03/2016 22:25

I can't believe that Waybuloo hasn't been mentioned yet.
The jingly music, sets and children doing yoga, I can handle.

The grossly distorted "piplings" with tgeir stunted limbs and deformed heads irritate me seeply as you can't see the yoga movements. Then they open their mouths and their mangled language that's neither baby talk nor English.

And why is the voice dubbing on the children so bad? That's always bugged me on Driver Dan's Story Train too.

Me Too... pure evil.

MrsMook · 24/03/2016 22:26

Spelling fails... its been a long day...

Misseuropadiscodancer · 24/03/2016 22:41

Meh...Katie was NEVER as good as Big Cook Little Cook. It was a sad day when she replaced them.

Whatever happened to the Bobbinogs? They were the best thing to come out of cbeebiesland. Really broke up the morning between boogie newbies and the fimbles..come to think of it what happened to the fimbles and Roly Mo (the rolliest mole you'll ever know)???

TooOldForGlitter · 24/03/2016 23:16

Sportacus. I'll leave that there. A dark tanned muscle bound man doing gymnastics in lyrca. Ideal for the kiddies.

Raahh · 24/03/2016 23:22

Miss I LOVED The Bobbinogs! Even now, I can sing the theme tune, and any one wearing bobbles hats is always called a Bobbinog. Which is a lot of people, as bobble hats have been big this winterGrin

Roly Mo! His stories were shit Grin
I used to hate(around the same time) - Razzledazzle. It made me want to throw things. And creepy, creepy Patrick. The Koala brothers saved my sanity.
(I might still say 'get the gates Ned' when getting ready to go out.)

And Boogie Beebies was ok with Boogie Pete- but I think Natalie started doing it alone, and it was pants. 'Carousel' and something about shoe shops, still stick in my headGrin.

I made the mistake of having 3 children with 4 year-ish age gaps. Just as one grew out of Cbeebies, the next was hooked.Grin

TheCrumpettyTree · 24/03/2016 23:23

I think Nisha is on the freaky new asda advert.

BessieAndJim · 24/03/2016 23:24

SausageSmuggler, I am addicted to Art Ninja! I just see the acting as really cheesy. It totally appeals to my sense of humour, I quite fancy AN, and the stuff he makes and the retro style absolutely float my boat.

Can't fucking STAND Tweenies, I dread any child of mine turning out as such shitty little brats as them!

candykane25 · 24/03/2016 23:36

I can't keep up with Katy's hair colour. One week she's dark, the next she's blonde.
The discover and do lady fancies the pants off Andy. Undo havens fondness for her rainbow stripy onesie she wears for bedtime hour.
It's Miss Hoolies stripy zip up cardi that sets my teeth on edge. And the a-line maxi. I sing the theme tune with DD then have to avert my eyes.

candykane25 · 24/03/2016 23:36
  • I do have a fondness
areujoyful · 25/03/2016 00:41

OMG Paperchsserr!! That Daddy pig comment is priceless, I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe!!

My DH and I LOVE Hey Dugee, it's just ridiculously funny, and I LOVE Alexander Armstrong!! Sarah & Duck is also fab, Scarf Lady and her Bag is awesome!

"...don't forget Duck's a badger too!" best episode ever is Bread bike! "Greedy Duck!" Cried with laughter when we saw Duck rolling around in the bread box.

And is it just me, but does anyone else think Peter Rabbit is teaching some very iffy morals?? It's ok to steal from Mr MacGregor as he's a miserable bugger and the constant references to Peter's father who apparently was some sort of criminal mastermind? Keep on pointing out to my DS that it's actually NOT ok to steal, but he just says " Yes mummy, but it's ok, if you're rabbits!" Hmm.

ThreeBecomeFour · 25/03/2016 06:32

Justin has done a lot for awareness for SEN but I find him annoying these days. The only thing Mister Maker makes me do is turn the channel over. I swear he and Mr Tumble share acting tips. All those stupid noises and faces drive me nuts. My 3 year old son loves Twirlywoos. He will stop anything he's doing to watch.

I'll admit I quite like Katy. I can't stand Same Smile though. Poy and Chris from Show Me Show Me have grown on me with child #2. I no longer run away crying if they're on the TV as I did with #1. Thanks to Sky interactive my children are watching different programmes now rather than CBeebies.

ThreeBecomeFour · 25/03/2016 06:34

Baby Jake is the worst thing on there imo.....

Nomorechickens · 25/03/2016 21:26

Agree that Waybuloo is weird. Yogic flying and all sorts of mystical stuff. Love the names in the Night Garden. And the fact that it is voiced by Derek Jacobi. I try to imagine the scene in the recording studio when Sir Derek is laying down the Iggle Piggle song. And I love that when it's over, kid's TV is finished for the night.
I have more or less permanent looping of cbeebies theme tunes in my head.
Ok and I HATE HATE hate Gigglebits! The jokes would have been tired and dated in Terry and June's day. It's just an excuse for Justin to dress up in women's clothes.
