CBeebies weirdness

Jujuheyhey · 22/03/2016 22:44

Home with poorly DD, she is 8 but illness had her regressing into watching CBeebies. Is it just me who reckons Katy from I Can Cook secretly hates kids?

Also wtf is going on in Balamory? Who thought it would be a good idea to have a Scottish policeman trying to dance calypso?!

Hope she's better tomorrow, I can't take another day of it...

Tony Welsh's dad reminds me of Greg Davies (Mr Gilbert in the Inbetweeners)

Niaus267 · 23/03/2016 10:16

I know someone who was on an episode of Same Smile (an adult) & said that Nisha was terrible. A real luvvy & desperately unpleasant. I suspected as much, but that was a total nail in her coffin! Any of my interaction with other Cbeebies types has so far been on Twitter, & I'll tell you who IS lovely on there - Rebecca Keatley (from Let's Play) - she did one of the Mr Bloom live shows & came across as really engaged with the kids. I told her as much & she was all chuffed & chatty on Twitter - big tick. See also Steven Kynman (Robert the Robot) - also very nice & responds on Twitter.

Not that I tweet them often or stalk them or anything.

jellypopmummy · 23/03/2016 10:17

Miss Hoolie's sister was my English teacher in secondary. Met her after her balamory days and she is lovely, married to Greg Hemphill of Still Game and Chewing the Fat fame :)

Katy riles me, it's just something about her face, Mr Maker acts like he is on crack and Justin creeps me the fuck out.

Kind of glad that DD has moved onto Cartoon Network, although some of the shows on there are bloody weird... Uncle Grandpa, Gumball...

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 23/03/2016 10:22

Allegedly (i read it on here years ago...) justin hates kids and shows no interest in them at all in RL (unless in character of course) but is all over the mums.

RhombusRiley · 23/03/2016 10:28

Aaah this thread is bringing it all back for me.

I never warmed to Katy, I accept she might be a nice person but PPs are right, it comes across as OTT and fake. However I would watch I can cook a million times rather than ever have to watch another deeply disturbing episode of Big Cook Little Cook. OMG they took fake and annoying to a whole new level.

Balamory generally got on my tits, but I loved Edie McCreadie (sp?). She always gave of a faint air of "I'm surrounded by idiots" in the nicest possible way.

I have bumped into Justin and automatically grinned and said hi because I thought I knew him! He did the same back :) I think he's a nice bloke, and v good at what he does.

BelfastSmile · 23/03/2016 10:29

Am shocked that Justin isn't lovely in real life! But the Twirlywoos are OK, right? They've never trashed a hotel room or been found drunk in a gutter at 6am?

liquidrevolution · 23/03/2016 10:30

DD is a show me show me addict and thats all we watch regularly. Postman Pat is bloody useless. I like Timmy Time and we have Wallace and Grommit on dvd. Other than that she watches the Horrible Histories DVDs I bought for her 1st birthday (I am a historian Blush).

We have started doing the bedtime stories as part of her bedtime routine. WTAF is is In the Night Garden all about???

PainAuChocolat23 · 23/03/2016 10:32

I dont mind miss hoolie too much it was josie jump that ripped my knitting. Miss hoolie is married to the actor who plays victor in still game

Raahh · 23/03/2016 10:35

'Hey Duggee' is
genius . I could watch it for hours. I bought the Easter comic for me dd2, and had a great time cutting out all the characters. I got a bit precious when dd2 wanted to play with the freebies. I mean, IANBU here- she is bound to lose them, right?

YANBU, though, OP that Katy used to be annoying. I don't mind her now. Now, the whole cast of Me Too! Rebecca from 'Let's play', and Woolly and Tig on the other hand can get lost.

I find Bing very odd. Mainly because my memories of Mark Rylance when I fancied him rotten are of him doing Hamlet in striped pyjamas in 1988. Not some poo shaped thing, who appears to have the patience of a saint.

And why does the Panda strip off to his/her pants when they go to the park?

My older ones prefer CBBC. I am addicted to 'The Dumping Ground' Blush

Niaus267 · 23/03/2016 10:38

Salem Hey Duggee is the best.

FankEweVeryMuch · 23/03/2016 10:39

I've just said this on another thread, but Edie McCredie's annoying dance at the harbour when it's her turn to do 'which coloured house' makes me rage. Unnecessarily naff and annoying.

Tony Welch is absolutely detested by my six year old

Tony Welch is like the Pando of Topsy and Tim. Every time you see him you know something shit's going to happen and it "won't be his fault" even though it totally is.

Imchangingmyname · 23/03/2016 10:48

Oh I absolutely agree with you about Katy and don't feel bad saying so! I always thought it's like she's smiling through gritted teeth on 'I Can Cook' Grin saying that, she is somehow less annoying now when she's doing the links. Perhaps she's mellowed a bit since becoming a Mum.

Love Andy and so would

theknackster · 23/03/2016 10:49

My two (12 and 9) burst out into a spontaneous rendition of the 'Chuggington' theme tune the other day - they can't have seen an episode in 5 years. It's pernicious, this CBeebies.

BathshebaDarkstone · 23/03/2016 10:52

Cerrie seems insincere too, she's much more natural on the Wright Stuff.

RiverTam · 23/03/2016 10:53

Hey Duggee. That's all you need to watch. Loads on iplayer. The Acorn Badge is brilliant.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 23/03/2016 10:55

channels Peter Capaldi What's the story in Bala-fucking-mory?

I very nearly just offered another OP some cunt cake. I've got Malcolm Tucker on the brain! I can never allow any child to mention Balamory in my presence for fear of this line slipping right out!

Also in the Miles Jupp fan club!

Raahh · 23/03/2016 11:18

River- I love it, but it took me a while to realise that they are 'Squirrels' like Brownies, or Scouts- which is why they don't look like squirrelsBlush.

I'm often a bit slow to twig these thingsGrin.

RiverTam · 23/03/2016 11:22

Bless you. It's Alexander Armstrong (Pointless) narrating it which just adds to its overall fabbiness. Ah woof!

memyselfandaye · 23/03/2016 11:23

I can't stand those fucking tweenies, especially the older girl with her know it all attitude and hair flicking, it makes me fucking rage.

When it comes on, just as we are getting ready to leave for school my 5yr old says "we don't like them do we Mum"? I thought I hid my annoyance quite well, obviously not Grin

blamethecat · 23/03/2016 11:32

Hey Duggee is amazing.
Me too is a special kind of awful.

RhombusRiley · 23/03/2016 11:38

OMG Me Too.

They meant well, it was like a bargain basement Balamory, but it was all over the place. Why was "Granny" Murray about 30? Why did they make a terrible computer graphic mash-up of several cities? Why were all the parents involved the worst-dressed people on the planet?

SausageSmuggler · 23/03/2016 11:39

I love Hey Duggee. My eldest two have graduated onto other things but if they see its on they'll leave it on and shout 'mum your favourite programmes on!' Blush

As an aside, does anyone else's DC's watch Art Ninja on CBBC? The acting is awful but it's actually a really good show. DS (5) has never been bothered by art but he's now really interested in different artists and techniques not that I'm bitter because I've been trying to get him interested for fecking ages.

Nanny0gg · 23/03/2016 12:18

I have heard from a reliable source that irl Justin is very nice and very shy.

Sid from Let's Play is lovely with the children. Spent hours after one of his shows posing for pictures with them.

Can't be doing with Nina (what's with the ridiculous eyeshadow?) or Mr Maker.

Why is Disney Jr so commercial but kind of 'professional' and CBeebies so naff that it actually looks like it's been made with a couple of loo rolls and some playdough?
