To hate that Mumsnetters Do This

BettyBoopBoop · 17/05/2015 15:18

Everytime someone says something popular opinion on mumsnet disagrees with they are accused of being stupid and uneducated.

You mainly see it on immigration, Europe and political parties.

These people who namecall never actually argue the point but accuse the poster of being uneducated.

Unless mumsnet changes any form of debate on here is going to be boring.

I hate it when people make sweeping generalisations about Mumsnetters myself.

tobytoes · 17/05/2015 15:21

Oh dear, I'd head for cover if I were you.

Jacobsmum1972 · 17/05/2015 15:22

This sometimes happens but not ALL mumsnetters do it.

Quiero · 17/05/2015 15:22

I never see anyone accused of being stupid unless they have said something incredibly stupid. It doesn't stifle debate it just silences the stupidity. Nowt wrong with that in my book.

TwerkingSpinster · 17/05/2015 15:23

God, I've been accused of all sorts for not agreeing with the hoards. Usually its needing 'help', pitying my children etc. I'm perfectly normal, I'm not a weirdo, but my God, disagree with a thread on cat poo, or politics and you suddenly become a pariah.

Quiero · 17/05/2015 15:24

I see you've name changed to post this. Have you said something stupid on another thread and been called out on it?

Jacobsmum1972 · 17/05/2015 15:24

I agree twerking it leads to a significant minority being ignored, but this thread won't go down well.

Whiskwarrior · 17/05/2015 15:27

You do realise that you're a Mumsnetter, right?

So you essentially mean every other member but you?

Cos that's not a stupid sweeping generalisation at all...

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/05/2015 15:28

ooh well I live in the 1950s and I'm a bigot who is stifling my DS because I won't let him have long hair or wear pink.

My DS has never ever expressed any desire to have long hair and does in fact take himself off alone, to the barbers with a £10 note to have his hair cut and go to Greggs for a bun.
He's gone there since he was a baby, they know him. He asks for his "4and2".

The pink? He'd rather eat his own eyeballs.

But. People who don't know me have decided I'm homophobic and outdated.

Guess how many shits I give?

That'll be NONE Hmm

PattiODoors · 17/05/2015 15:28

Hmmmmmmmm

Mintyy · 17/05/2015 15:29

Oh I did this on a thread today. I cba to argue the point (having done so countless times in the past) but just wanted to have my say! Also, the op's proposition was preposterous and deserved to be ridiculed.

Mumsnet is an online talk forum. You know, where people, just talk. They don't always have to be eloquent or articulate or taking part in a debate. They can just comment, there's no law against it.

TwerkingSpinster · 17/05/2015 15:29

Oh, and once you've been singled out...the pathetic jokes start, obtuse misunderstanding of posts, latching onto one aspect of an argument and mocking it while the regulars hand each other popcorn etc. Mumsnet is a really bitchy place sometimes.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/05/2015 15:30

I Thought From The Title That The OP Didn't Like It When MNetters Did All Their Words Starting With A Capital Letter.

Jacobsmum1972 · 17/05/2015 15:34

It does need to stop, but generalising is so unpopular on here.

welliesinthespring · 17/05/2015 15:35

You need councelling OP Hmm

Your poor kids Sad

Mintyy · 17/05/2015 15:36

Can we have some examples?

wooldonor · 17/05/2015 15:39

Often when there's a thread like this the old guard will come on and post things like "not this old complaint again".

I've always thought that if the same complaint keeps coming up from different posters then maybe it's not too much of a stretch to accept that they might just have a point even if you disagree with it.

welliesinthespring · 17/05/2015 15:41

On a serious note though, I think the two biggest things about Mumsnet that make me roll my eyes are the champagne socialists - towards people on benefits, that is: people working for low pay should just have worked harder at school and/or go to night school - and the bossy, pompous middle class tone adopted loftily by some.

When the two come together I inevitably want to scream.

Icimoi · 17/05/2015 16:06

Your premise doesn't bear examination, OP: what tends to happen in practice in my experience is that Mumsnetters respond with facts and figures and the immigrant basher (or whatever) generally retires in a sulk claiming that she is being bullied.

welliesinthespring · 17/05/2015 16:23

Well, you know - I want out of Europe, but I'm not an immigrant basher.

Topseyt · 17/05/2015 16:30

I'm with you OP.

I do like this place, but you need to get used to how rude and unwelcoming some of the "old guard" can be.

I remember asking why we can't have an edit button to correct typos and autocorrect gaffes. I thought then and still think now that it is a perfectly reasonable question, as other sites I have used do have one and have no problems, but no!!! "Done to death" seems to be the stock answer, and "how on earth could such an apparently radical idea ever work?" "You must be mad" yadda, yadda, yadda.

I've been told that because I don't serve each member of my family with a custom made separate menu of their choosing people feel sorry for my children, who must be neglected and forced to eat food they dislike every day. Rude, yes. Hilarious, most definitely.

MerryMarigold · 17/05/2015 16:37

Not seen it v often myself. Usually people have a while load of helpful information on exactly WHY you are wrong.

MerryMarigold · 17/05/2015 16:38

Topseyt, maybe 1 person said that to you, but it's a v un mumsnet view
1 meal for all is the mn norm.

Topseyt · 17/05/2015 16:38

Oh, and I want much tighter controls on immigration, and would consider voting to leave Europe.

God help you if you like to vote Conservative or for UKIP. The vultures will come out in force for a feeding frenzy because the only valid views are left wing ones.
