To hate that Mumsnetters Do This

BettyBoopBoop · 17/05/2015 15:18

Everytime someone says something popular opinion on mumsnet disagrees with they are accused of being stupid and uneducated.

You mainly see it on immigration, Europe and political parties.

These people who namecall never actually argue the point but accuse the poster of being uneducated.

Unless mumsnet changes any form of debate on here is going to be boring.

OP posts:

I just dislike the goady threads that are written just to provoke a bunfight - and the goady, trolly posters who cowardly namechange to start them. Have started reporting them quietly.

PeachyPants · 17/05/2015 16:49

Spot on welliesinthespring they do my head in too, they are two of my biggest bugbears on MN. I love MN but MN is not real life, even amongst my largely left leaning friends the general MN consensus on the acceptability of boys wearing dresses, benefits and voting Tory is way way more left-wing. I hate the way differing views are silenced with sneering insults, it makes the respondent sound stupid rather than the OP IMO.

ilovesooty · 17/05/2015 16:51

I can't take this complaint too seriously if the OP name changed to start this thread. If people have something to say that matters to them I don't see why they can't use their normal user name.

ilovesooty · 17/05/2015 16:52

X post with Lying

YouTheCat · 17/05/2015 16:54

I dislike the goady troll name changers - some of whom I suspect are bloody hacks looking for some easy research from us lot.

And some people on here are stupid. Though I'd rather call their views mis-informed.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 17/05/2015 16:54

Not all mumsnetters do anything, because mumsnet is full of diverse people with myriad different thoughts and opinions.

If there's one thing that really annoys me, it's the assumption that Mumsnet is like a giant hive mind, where everyone thinks/says the same thing.

We don't!

Spanglecrab · 17/05/2015 16:54

Thank you for your post. I'm going to take done time to formulate a response and I'll get back to you in a few days.

The OP of the thread Mintyy posted on was being extremely stupid.
Is this the same OP?

Gralick · 17/05/2015 17:02

YANBU, OP. This place is full of arrogant bullies who pick on anyone that disagrees with their unified opinion. They probably have secret gatherings where they decide what opinions they're all allowed to hold, and give each other flowers for bullying dissenters. It's like a dangerous cult. Save yourself! Leave and don't look back!

welliesinthespring · 17/05/2015 17:03

Thumb - I think that there are trends or views that are commonly held on MN, which isn't the same as saying MN all think the same :)

Jacobsmum1972 · 17/05/2015 17:03

I think the Ive already decided to vote no on eu membership sparked this thread. The op their made some valid arguments (imo) but got made fun off.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 17/05/2015 17:03

The trouble is that on MN everyone generalises, don't you know? Wink

Jacobsmum1972 · 17/05/2015 17:04

Sorry
Made fun of by some posters callings her un educated, when she had throughly read around the topic.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 17/05/2015 17:05

Gee thanks, wellies - that wouldn't have occurred to me. It's still not really true though.

Gralick · 17/05/2015 17:07

Ellen, everyone got your little joke!

usualsuspect333 · 17/05/2015 17:08

Some posters are stupid though.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 17/05/2015 17:11

Gralick... I was thinking the same myself. It's amazing how 'chums' seem to dive bomb into a thread if one of their own is disagreed with. It's amusing to watch albeit it's pathetic that adult women do this, but they do.

thornrose · 17/05/2015 17:13

If someone called me stupid or said "don't be stupid" I wouldn't be upset/offended.

If I stood by and was passionate what I was saying then I'd carry on regardless.

If the person calling me stupid had a well reasoned argument then I might even agree that I was being stupid and change my view.

PeachyPants · 17/05/2015 17:14

Who is the arbiter of stupidity though? I voted Labour but it still made me very uncomfortable immediately after the election when people were being called cunts and selfish bastards on here just because they voted Tory. Viewpoints are all subjective and just because someone has a different opinion doesn't mean they're stupid. I didn't like the election result but that's democracy and I'd far rather have that than the alternative.

BuzzardBird · 17/05/2015 17:16

Do you mean 'ill-educated', because people who usually spout off about immiagration and Europe tend to have an education, just not a well informed one?

BuzzardBird · 17/05/2015 17:17

immigration Grin

HoneyDragon · 17/05/2015 17:18

I've been called stupid by Mnetters loads on my time here. They're generally not wrong though.

Pagwatch · 17/05/2015 17:19

Who are the 'old guard'

Am I one? Can I get a uniform?

I personally don't mind that things get raised often. I fo get irked when people rock up and randomly whine that this website doesn't quite meets their personal needs.

The 'oh dear lord do you really need to swear' one are inevitable moments of high intensity, scatter gun, profanity. They are sometimes funny.

Also 'you mumsnetters' is quite funny as these people miss the point that they are also mumsnetters. Classic

BuzzardBird · 17/05/2015 17:19

Honey Grin I won't hear of it!
