To be upset a woman called my child dirty

Out at a country park today, dd(5) had a wee in the car park as she was busting. A woman walked past with toddler and baby and she said to her daughter who was asking for a wee 'no, you can wait, just because other children are being dirty doesn't mean you have to!'

AIBU to think this was horrible?

I'd have been upset too, it's not the same as an adult weeing in public and a quick emergency wee is fine in my book!

YABU in that it's her opinion that it's "dirty" to let children urinate in a car park. She's allowed to think that.

Had to let Ds go up against a tree at a national trust garden recently. It was a 10 minute walk back to the toilets.
Didn't want him wetting himself so I made sure no-one could see and I'm pretty sure the tree didn't mind.
When they're young there's not a lot you can do - they can't hold it in for all that long, so surely letting them wet themselves is worse?

TBH, I think it's being dirty too.

Which isn't to say I haven't let mine do it in an emergency.

Toilets weren't that far to be fair but the problem was we'd have had to walk back, DD just announced she was desperate.

I was really upset and DD was too.

YANBU. We've had to do that with our DDs in emergencies too. Just hope your DD didn't hear that comment.

I think she wasn't unreasonable for having that opinion but she was unreasonable to say it in ear shot of you and your DD.

We've done that in an emergency, but hide at the front of the car out of the way. I bet she's done it too!

At that age they should be able to wait until they get to the toilet
A 2 year old just put of nappies is different

Yanbu. There was no need for her to say that so you could hear and it was horrible to say it in front of your daughter.

I half hope her toddler didn't make it to the loo and she had to clean it up.

To get some prospective was there anywhere more suitable than the car park like behind a tree or bush (seeing you were in a park)? In the car park seems a bit of a odd.

Though YABU anyway, because as MythicalKings said it's her opinion. I imagine everyone has a cut off as to was age it's fine till, hers is possibly school aged children.

Actually I don't really. I'm thoroughly fed up of small person and not so small person wee at the moment and I don't wish it on anyone.

If it was a closely packed car car park, and this was in the middleish with cars on all sides, then I do think that mings a bit, really. If it was a big grassy field co-opted as a car park, and DD was tucked away out of scent or stumble, around one edge near tall grass... then the other mother was being obnoxious.

Nobody wants to splash through anyone else's pee, after all.

We got back to the car and she needed to go, to be honest I didn't think anyone would care or object to a little child having a wee!

If the toilets weren't far I would have told her to wait. If it was an absolute emergency i think its ok to have a discreet wee behind the car, but i'd have held up the car-rug rather than let people see!

Beyond potty-training age, kids need to learn to hold on whenever possible. I would think it a bit odd to see a 5-year-old weeing in a car-park if there were toilets nearby.

The woman was nasty to call her dirty, but I can understand why she was a bit repulsed. Imagine if all kids under the age of 6 weed on ground in public car-parks, it would be very off-putting and unhygienic.
