The attack on Charlie Hebdo.
Shall we have 3 guesses who's responsible?

Terrible news.

SamG76 · 07/01/2015 12:07

people made the same assumption about the Breivig massacre in Oslo, but I can guess where the police will start....

BakewellSlice · 07/01/2015 12:08

The gunmen have got away from what I've read.

QueenCleo · 07/01/2015 12:44

Paris is my favourite place in the world, I'm devastated for the people. This is so sad and terrible that this has happened. My thoughts are with the victims and their families and the people of Paris.

According to BBC News, the gunmen said "We avenged the Prophet."

myfallingstar · 07/01/2015 12:46

Oh dear this will not end well possibly in a NF victory at the polls

Nancy66 · 07/01/2015 12:51

shocking story and, yet, not really that surprising.

Becles · 07/01/2015 12:52

In answer to the thread title, no.

Sadly, this will just generate more votes for Marine le Pen.

BreakingDad77 · 07/01/2015 14:07

It will provide more pressure for moderates to come off the fence as reformers.

Theological justifications:

www.usc.edu/org/cmje/religious-texts/quran/verses/033-qmt.php#033.061
Quran: 033.057
Those who annoy Allah and His Messenger - Allah has cursed them in this World and in the Hereafter, and has prepared for them a humiliating Punishment (YUSUFALI)
Quran: 033.061
They shall have a curse on them: whenever they are found, they shall be seized and slain (without mercy). (YUSUFALI)

www.alahazrat.net/islam/penalty-for-insulting-the-beloved-prophet.php

  1. Truly whoever abused the Holy Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam or ascribed any fault to him or attributed any defect to his family, religion or his habit, or reproached him, or compared the Holy Prophet Muhammad SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam with any defective thing with the objective of degrading his personality and prestige, he is truly an abusive person and deserves to be executed. We make absolutely no exception to this verdict, whether the insult has been committed intentionally or unintentionally. This has been the verdict of all the ‘Ulam? of the Ummah from the time of the Companions to the present day. [Qad? Iyadh, Ash-Shifa, Vol. 2, Page 214]*

No doubt, we'll be told these are historical and 'taken out of context'.
Well there may be some traction in that, BUT you can't argue that Islam teaches Muhammed was the most perfect man and therefore to emulate him is the 'best of behaviours'.

Thus Muhammed approving of the killing of Jewish poets Asma Bint Marwa and Ka’ab bin Al-Ashraf for writing poems against him provides fuel to his followers to do the same to protect his honour.

Here's a moderate pro-Islam site justifying these assassinations.
islamicresponse.blogspot.co.uk/2008/07/allegation-that-muhammad-killed-kaab.html

Islamic terrorism will continue until the majority of right thinking people, both muslim and non-muslim, start to realise that it is Islam itself that is the problem and not 'a distortion' or 'mis-interpretation' or 'a few misguided individuals.'

RandomNPC · 07/01/2015 14:32

Not as hard as it is to be a cartoonist in France, OP Hmm

adsy · 07/01/2015 14:36

Oh, I very strongly believe it is NOT difficult to be a muslim in Britain, by the way. I was just carrying on the previous thread as it had reached 1000.
I'm waiting for the first reply on this one to say it's a religion of peace and these people are true muslims.

OP posts:
adsy · 07/01/2015 14:36

Not true muslims, I meant!

Stéphane “Charb” Charbonnier, publisher of Charlie Hebdo, among the dead today.

Charb in 2012: “I prefer to die standing than to live on my knees.”

Shocking news. The world seems a terrible place today.

BreakingDad77 · 07/01/2015 15:31

It is tragic but I am not surprised something has happened in France as it is much less tolerant and has been on the boil for sometime. Recently wasn't some woman thrown out of an opera? for wearing a niqab i think.

SenatusPopulusqueRomanorum · 07/01/2015 15:31

Many French Muslims are rejoicing on Twitter.
I am sure the first reaction from the French Muslim authorities will be to whine about an "islamophobic backlash".

SenatusPopulusqueRomanorum · 07/01/2015 15:32

BreakingDad are you suggesting that it is the French people's fault if those deranged men have massacred twelve people?
Niqabs are illegal in France.

LurkingHusband · 07/01/2015 15:34

SenatusPopulusqueRomanorum

Niqabs are illegal in France

really Confused? Or maybe wearing them ? There's quite a distinction Hmm

BreakingDad77 · 07/01/2015 15:38

Senatus - well of course its not there fault, no terrorist action is justified.

Extremists are getting more and more emboldened and France has probably been top of their list for some time.
