to think friends staying shouldn't have two twenty min showers a day

If got some friends staying and they keep having 40 wish mins of showering a day. A part from anything this can't be great for their skin but this is costing 1.60 a day in water with the meter and 1.40 in electric per person. Should I say something? Staying with for a week

Are you standing outside with a stop watch?

Purpleroxy · 10/08/2014 09:50

I think you just have to suck it up. It is strange though.

HygieneFreak · 10/08/2014 09:50

Unless they are female and washing their hair, then 20 mins in very excessive!

I dont know whether i would say anything tbh.

flowery · 10/08/2014 09:50

Good grief no. Surely you want guests to feel comfortable in your home, not that you are timing them with showers and begrudge them a bit of water/electricity for a week.

littlemissmaths · 10/08/2014 09:50

If you are very poor, and the visitors know this then YANBU
If you can afford it, then YABU and an ungracious host.

Look on the bright side - I assume they smell nice :-)

emsyj · 10/08/2014 09:50

Seems totally normal to me. If you told me as a guest that I couldn't have 2 showers a day I would do as you asked (of course) but would think you were bonkers and wouldn't visit again.

It wouldn't occur to me to notice how long people take in the shower. Not guests, for a week.

notagainffffffffs · 10/08/2014 09:51

20mins quite reasonable in our house :/

SirChenjin · 10/08/2014 09:53

I imagine you're not standing outside with a stop watch

Are each of the friends having 2x20 minute showers?

MardyBra · 10/08/2014 09:54

Are they in there together shagging?

Panzee · 10/08/2014 09:55

Maybe you shouldn't have guests.

I think it is unreasonably excessive.

The question is though, is making your friends feel awkward and embarrassed worth a tenner?

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 10/08/2014 09:55

Are you on a very tight budget? If so, I think it is reasonable to mention. As a friend, I would be mortified if I was costing you money you could not afford.

Northernlurker · 10/08/2014 09:58

Having guests is expensive. It's a luxury. If the OP can't afford it then she needs not to allow people to stay for a week.

scarletforya · 10/08/2014 09:59

Well I think it's a much actually. One twenty minute shower is fine if the person has long hair. Then if they want a second one later they could have a short three minute one.

Are they from another country maybe and don't realise that water and electricity are so expensive?

suziepra · 10/08/2014 10:00

I probably won't say anything. I'm not short of money just tight and hate waste. One of them keeps the tap running as she cleans her teeth. That really annoys me but don't want to say something.

Seriously two showers a day is normal?

OP posts:
CoffeeTea103 · 10/08/2014 10:00

Yabu, that's very rude if you expect this of your guests. I shower twice a day, about 10 - 15 mins.

Cereal0ffender · 10/08/2014 10:02

How do you know she runs the tap?

SirChenjin · 10/08/2014 10:02

No, 2 showers a day is not normal, unless you've been to the gym, or it's incredibly hot, or you're going out at night. Sounds like they just do things differently at home and haven't thought about whether it's imposing on their hosts. I think, given that, you just have to grin and bear it.

Monopolice · 10/08/2014 10:02

Is the water running for that time, or is it the total amount of time spent in the bathroom?

Perhaps you should draw up a bathroom timetable Hmm

What do you all do in the shower for 20mins? Even with long hair it only takes about 10 and surely your not washing your hair twice a day?
