To think it is not normal to expect intercourse to last an hour... is it??

So... I was talking to my friend the other day and asked her how the relationship with her new partner was going and she said it was ok but the sex was disappointing. When I asked her to clarify, she said her new man didn't "last as long" as her xbf.
Apparently, the only way she can come is by having actual intercourse for ages. Foreplay doesn't do anything for her and she said she can take it or leave it. So, when asked how long she was expecting it to last, she said at the very least half an hour, preferably an hour or longer!
Now, DH and I have been together for 13 years and have three DCs (my friend has no DCs), so to be fair memories of our sex-life at the start of our relationship, pre DCs is a bit hazy, but I was still a bit and she was genuinely surprised by my reaction.
I wouldn't find it odd to want an hours worth of foreplay (oh, what it must be like to have that much time...) but actual intercourse?
I told her that if my DH expected to pound me for over an hour on a regular basis I'm sure my undercarriage would soon be turning into leather...

I think average length of PIV is thought to be about 5 minutes, isn't it?

I just must be different! I really do enjoy an hour of PIV...not all banging away...I take offence at the idea that it's only men on Viagra or those with porn fixations who like long sex too!

Foreplay, about 10 minutes (and VERY nice thank you very much ) and about 3 minutes for the actual deed.

Believe me, speed makes TTC more bearable!!

I can't see why people don't enjoy it and want to extend it! It's as though the orgasm is all rushed...people can't wait to get to the finish line and aren't really getting involved in the act.

I have a very healthy sex life and I like to set aside a good amount of time for it. I regularly have sex that last more than an hour. Only a portion of that will be PIV sex though. That's not rushing orgasm! And, indeed, it's possible to have several orgasms in an hour with only 5 mins of PIV sex in that hour.

PIV usually only a couple of minutes here, maybe 3 or 4, BUT DP does spend a looong time on foreplay and is fit to burst by the point of penetration poor man :)

I love PIV, but it has never and probably will never make me come, so an hour ain't happening.

VV happy with sex life and DH is too but he did make some comment at one point about how he could go on for longer but thought I couldn't cope with it. I was all offended... apparently his exes are all just weird in the sex department.

I think the longest we've done is 20-30 minutes. It does get chafey after a while, it doesn't matter how lubricated it is. Maybe with a break - in fact we have done far longer with breaks in the early days! Don't get the chance now.

For me headspace is more of an indicator than time. If I'm really losing myself in it then it can be amazing. Which to be fair does tend to mean it goes on longer without noticing, but it's not just about timing.

Bumpy with respect I think you are unusual, it's a bit mean to insist that others must not be having as good orgasms, just because you don't with shorter sex.

I enjoy orgasms from foreplay, Orgasms from PIV seem to be quite hard to achieve and really, there aren't that many hours in the day!

Well in the OP she said an hour with no foreplay. I know that some women can't have cliterol orgasms so maybe that's her problem? Just as some women can't have, or find it difficult to have vaginal orgasms. Personally I have both at the drop of a hat, it doesn't take a lot and could quite happily spend an hour making all sorts of, er, positions. But I just cannot imagine having an hour of just in and out.

I think the main point is that it's whatever works for you and your DH. If you are both happy with 10 minutes then great, if you both want an hour, hurrah.
