I don't understand (bar finances and even then not really an excuse) why some women when they become parents, out goes the stylish clothes, in comes Tesco mummy jeans!

Out goes the decent hair cut/colour, in comes uncombed hair.

There is NO excuse (apart from depression before the righteous mafia comes for my neck, haha.

I don't have that excuse as I've never made much effort as it's just not I portent or a priority though I scrub up ok when I want to. Maybe the are just happy to have an excuse to slob for a change, maybe being a parent to a young child makes them reassess their own priorities.

You might want to get a plate for all the biscuits you're about to receive.

Some people dress like that without children. I'm certainly not one of them, I work in fashion, I take masses of pride and effort in my appearance but not caring isn't a mum thing it's a person thing.

It's just a matter of priorities, it matters enough to some people to spend their time and money on their appearance. Personally, my time and money goes elsewhere.

Umm, exhaustion...when your fked after caring for 3 on your own even applying some makeup can feel like a mammoth task. Finances do def play a part as theres loads of nice stuff id like, but cannot afford hence most my clothes coming from sains/asda. Also if youve never had the role model...I had a seriously disfunctional childhood and never had that mother dressing me in fashinable clothes or teaching me makeup or how to do my hair. Admitting to not being able to do these things and trying to learn them as an adult is not easy

Honestly, I used to be stylish. I did... but now I'm up half the night with an AS 5 yr old, working full time, no help or support, and when I'm not at work I'm permanantly followed around by DD5 and DS4. Honestly, I'm knackered!

I do try and get things ready the night before and I always slick on a bit of red lippy before I tumble out of the door, just for appearances, but honestly, I'm only 6 degrees away from shopping in my pyjamas. There But for the Grace of God etc etc...

I don't think what your saying is true but if it were then it's a positive thing that women are able to feel less obsessive about their looks and feel comfortable in themselves. I don't think it's true however because every mother I know still wears makeup etc.

I also don't understand women who wear a face full of makeup with babies/young children, don't they smear it all over them or ruin their lipstick. Or women toddle about in high heels most of the time. How do you run after them, play football with them? Each to their own I guess.

DrWho, thanks for posting that, it was very brave. I too am on my own, and had a similar childhood & Mother who didn't think to teach me anything much about beauty (inside or out), style, clothes or even a lot of basic self care.

It's really hard as an adult trying to catch up. I think that's why I hide behind red lipstick.
