I don't understand (bar finances and even then not really an excuse) why some women when they become parents, out goes the stylish clothes, in comes Tesco mummy jeans!

Out goes the decent hair cut/colour, in comes uncombed hair.

There is NO excuse (apart from depression before the righteous mafia comes for my neck, haha.

Seriously it really bugs me.

Surely the best thing to come out of this thread is the phrase "mind fart"

:o

Birdsgottafly · 11/08/2012 18:38

My DP says brain fart, it pisses me off.

I think it is possible to look good AND look after children. I wish I could afford half the clothes I would like to buy although ebay is great. In fact now I am a mum I am much more interested in fashion than before. I am also more interested in fitness. I went through a mumsy phase after dd was born; tunics, breast feeding bra, comfort over style. I do like to dress up when I go out as a bit of glamour takes me away from the drudgery involved in motherhood. DD loves clothes too. I cannot be arsed with make up as I like my fresh face but I do use serums and moisterisers and a bit of lip gloss.

I think most women look good in jeans and a pretty top; as long as it fits properly and is clean. I think it is important not to let yourself go regardless of if you are a mum or not. It's about self respect.

toptramp · 11/08/2012 21:36

By letting yourself go I mean sloping around in dirty, frumpy clothes with greasy hair isn't good but I virtually never see women looking like this anyway. Heels only get worn on a night out and even then I feel like a bit of a dick in them!

frustratedpants · 11/08/2012 21:38

Not read all this Fred, from this last page I get the impression op is a childless judgy pants feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

I dress up smart for work. For the majority of the time when i am at home chasing small children about i slob it up. I really don't see the point need to tart myself up wear smart clothes. Dirty glitter glue and food covered little fingers and nice clothes don't mix IMO.

motherinferior · 11/08/2012 21:39

Does it ever occur to you, OP and your ilk, that some women just can't be arsed because they are really quite busy with other things? I spent today in an academic library surrounded by people who would have had you tutting in horror. I have other friends who wear fairly crap clothes and no make-up and - oh horror - have Bad Hair. They are doing fairly important stuff, like running nursing departments full of critically ill kids, or writing books, or conducting ground-breaking research. Like I say, CBA.

Plenty of other women doing those things can be arsed, of course. But I really think that declaring that Proper Women gussy themselves up is a bit, well, idiotic.

AnnieLobeseder · 11/08/2012 21:41

I buy all my clothes from Sainsburys. They're all I can afford.

I actually have a life, so I don't have time to give a shit how I look.

Get off your high bloody horse and realise that not everyone is as shallow as you and might have a whole long list of priorities above looking pretty for no good reason I can see. As long as you're clean and decent, what the fuck does it matter? FFS, some women are quite stressed enough with everything on their plates without worrying about other women judging their appearance.

motherinferior · 11/08/2012 21:43

Some of them don't remove their pubic hair either Shock

And worst of all...most of them still have a man to have sex with. Ho yes. Filthy makeupphobic pube-fancying perverts.

motherinferior · 11/08/2012 21:58

If I started a thread about how I can't understand women who say they don't read now they have kids I would be hammered for my judginess. But women who can't be arsed with makeup are regular targets.

(I do wear a bit of makeup. I am quite keen on clothes, although I'm quite sure my hippy-boho style and charity shop fetish would make you shudder, OP. But I rather love women who can't be arsed.)

toptramp · 11/08/2012 21:58

My idea of clothes that are comfy and a little bit fashion;

skinny jeans (loving teh new coloured ones -asda do great ones! )
simple tops
ballet pumps
chunky knits in winter.

Not that different from unfashionable clothes then.

londone17 · 11/08/2012 22:06

I wear cargo pants and t shirts, I'm wearing them now actually because I have a life. I prefer to live life and get up and go as I need to or feel like rather than miss out because I can't decide what to wear or take ages to get ready.

AnnieLobeseder · 11/08/2012 22:10

I also put the fact that, at the ripe old age of 38, people still place me in my mid-20s down to never wearing makeup nor using several tonnes of chemicals on my skin. Or, I suppose, it could just be genes, or a stealth brag. Grin
