to lock DH out tonight and consider asking him to move out permanently

This afternoon me and the dds and my brother who is visiting because he is on holiday from university were in the garden just playing football. DH came home early from work and he was clearly already in a bad mood and joined in. My brother then started teasing him whilst they were playing football against each other and he started doing these twists and turns with the ball whilst goading him. He then gave the ball to dd, the next time he got the ball DH charged towards him and leapt off the ground before tackling him. DH's feet went into my brothers leg just above the ankle and my brother's ankle bent in a horrible looking way.

My brother's was in agony on the floor and DH got up and shouted there you go you little twat before storming off into the car and away. I had to call an ambulance as my brother was in so much pain, the dds were also very distressed (they adore my brother). He got taken to hospital and he has suffered partial tear to his ankle ligaments. It's going to take 2-3 months for him to recover. I'm so furious with him for what he has done and the way that he charged over to him with such malice and viscousness, it was obviously not an accident. He went without his house keys I feel like locking the door so he can't come in tonight and I'm really questioning our relationship after this. He has deliberately hurt my brother who I love and so do the dds and they were both hysterical after it. Also we can't afford to go on holiday this year I thought having him stay for 10 days would at least give them something to look forward to this summer and he's done this.

Police, surely that is assault?

thebody · 30/07/2012 20:44

Will your brother press charges? Serious assault!!

Your dh sounds vile sorry.

That's awful! Your poor brother must be in agony.

Does your H often behave like this?

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 30/07/2012 20:45

YANBU at all...if my DH ever hurt one of family that would be it for me. I'd expect the same from him if I hurt any of his family.

I hope your brother feels better soon x

leguminous · 30/07/2012 20:46

I'd be shocked if a child retaliated in such a vicious way, let alone an adult. Hell yes I'd be locking him out tonight, and I'd struggle to see him as a person I'd want to bring up kids with, frankly! Where the hell is his self-control? Even if red mists descended, I can't imagine doing something so violent over a game and not immediately being horrified by what I'd done.

binrel · 30/07/2012 20:46

No he's never done anything like this before.

Phone the police, he assaulted your brother.

(I hasten to add that I've never been angry enough to hurt someone in that way, and think it's appalling on its own. But to then swear and storm off is horrendous.)

quoteunquote · 30/07/2012 20:48

How horrible for all of you,

Is your DH normally like this?

It sounds like your poor brother might of been the straw that did for the camel,

Rather than locking him out, send him a message and ask him to stay with a friend until you have both calmed down, that way you have time to think.

thebody · 30/07/2012 20:48

Soz are police involved op, awful situation.

WinkyWinkola · 30/07/2012 20:49

Wow. Your poor brother.

Has your h reacted this way before? I thought football was about evasive skills etc?

Assault yes but will the police be able to do anything about it? Will your h say it was just part and parcel of the game?

Lock him out but will he just bang on the door?

retyba · 30/07/2012 20:49

YANBU although I wouldn't bother phoning the police as they won't do anything about a malicious football tackle.

HecateHarshPants · 30/07/2012 20:50

What a foul thing to do.

Perhaps your brother will press charges for assault.

I wouldn't be letting him in tonight either. Although I know legally you can't keep him out of his own home.

I couldn't feel the same way about someone after they'd done something like that.

Socknickingpixie · 30/07/2012 20:51

im not sure but i reckon this would be concidered to be more serious than assult (perhaps gbh or abh) but im not sure.

also he did this infront of the kids.

get rid

binrel · 30/07/2012 20:51

No I haven't phoned the police

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 30/07/2012 20:52

I'd be locking him out and then changing the locks first thing in the morning.

Your poor brother! And you and the dds Sad

Downandoutnumbered · 30/07/2012 20:53

You should, or your brother should - retyba may be right that they won't do anything for a malicious tackle, but if it were one of my family I'd at least want to try it.

I'd ring and tell him he wasn't welcome to come home, at least for a while.

HecateHarshPants · 30/07/2012 20:54

You don't have to. It's your brother he assaulted. If your brother wants to call the police, he will. Do you think he will?

GhostShip · 30/07/2012 20:54

I'd be furious. No one hurts my brothers even the man I love dearly.

Is your brother going to be able to work?

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 30/07/2012 20:55

That would be the worst bit for me actually...scaring the children like that. Children are supposed to trust their Dad and not be scared of him.

That would be it for me! I'd worry next time it could be the kids!
