To think that anyone who thinks that any of the tattoos they have look nice?

Perriwinkle · 09/02/2012 16:30

I totally understand that people can think that the tattoos they have are meaningful to them personally (i.e names of children, references to deceased relatives/friends or meaningful pictures/symbols that represent importnant points in their lives etc) but if they think that they look outwardly nice to other people then I'm sorry but I have yet to see a nice tattoo and everyone I ever meet seems to agree.

They look uniformly godawful regardless of whether they're bufferlies, roses, fairies, swirls, Japanese lettering, names written in gothic font or pictures of Marilyn Monroe.

Mine is a black cat on my wrist and I frankly don't give a crap Grin

BiWinning · 09/02/2012 16:33

YABU. Tattoos do look nice to other people just not all other people. People with or without tattoos can appreciate other tattoos.

JustHecate · 09/02/2012 16:34

I would disagree. I have seen very many stunning designs that would look simply beautiful hanging on a wall.

JustHecate · 09/02/2012 16:35

erm. By that I mean as pictures, not skinning people or anything!

HugeFurryWishingStool · 09/02/2012 16:35

Your post title doesn't make sense and you have spelled "butterflies" wrongly. Hth.

Velvetcu · 09/02/2012 16:35

Yabu. And how would you feel if something you had chosen to adorn yourself with was said to be "godawful"?

Maybe people with tattoos don't give a toss what you think

SquishyCinnamonSwirls · 09/02/2012 16:36

YABU and very judgey. What does it matter to you on how someone has decided to adorn their body?

mrscumberbatch · 09/02/2012 16:37

It's an artform at best. Bag of shite at worst.

You're a pleb if you can't see how <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=irezumi&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1858&bih=1075&tbm=isch&tbnid=JFmEgKhRpc6sRM:&imgrefurl=horimatsu.blogspot.com/2009/10/irezumi-monday-grinding-and-polishing.html&docid=msBazZiaxI6dGM&imgurl=4.bp.blogspot.com/_lGqyu8ZJvMQ/StyroolfpGI/AAAAAAAABHU/k-hkH3t_zJk/s400/irezumi%252Bjapanese%252Btattoo-5.jpg&w=400&h=240&ei=9vUzT9C7G-q_0QXpj_G-Ag&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=943&vpy=677&dur=1534&hovh=174&hovw=290&tx=76&ty=102&sig=110301854846680453589&page=2&tbnh=127&tbnw=212&start=50&ndsp=56&ved=1t:429,r:23,s:50" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this is traditional art.

TheresASpareChairOverThere · 09/02/2012 16:37

YABU. I have no tattoos, never would have, but of course some look nice or artistic or impressive or whatever.

catgirl1976 · 09/02/2012 16:37

I like mine

Your opinion is of no importance to me

diddl · 09/02/2012 16:37

OP-have you just seen this by any chance?

AMumInScotland · 09/02/2012 16:38

I don't particularly like the look of small single tattoos. But people who have really gone for it and got a serious design done can look quite stunning. For me, it needs to be something that looks thought out, rather than "Ooh I'll have a butterfly on my ankle"

rimmer08 · 09/02/2012 16:38

YABU. some tats are a work of art. i have the japanese lettering for 'woman' on my lower back and i love it because it represents that i am proud to be a woman.

BeeBawBabbity · 09/02/2012 16:38

I think they're generally pretty hideous.

lisaro · 09/02/2012 16:39

YABU and very narrow minded. I personally don't have any, so not biased in any way, but have seen a lot of very, very pretty ones.

Icelollycraving · 09/02/2012 16:39

Yabu. I don't have any but I have colleagues who have some fabulous ones, unusual & striking.
I can't imagine there is anyone with a tattoo who is looking for your approval (or of the people you have met who agree).
There are ones that I think people will come to regret, such as on hands/neck/face or of partner's names but their skin, their choice!

ditavonteesed · 09/02/2012 16:39

one of mine looks like a pair of testicles , have a look at my profile if you dont believe me. I love it and I dont give a tiny rats bottom what anyone else thinks, just so you know

Dustinthewind · 09/02/2012 16:39

I do not have any tattoos, but I have seen some wonderful examples that really suited the person wearing them. One of the key differences seems to be the price. Top quality can look amazing, cheap and shoddy are a disaster.
So you are entitled to your opinion, and your social group, but I think YABU.
I hate seeing thick make-up and very high heels far more, and let's not even consider surgical enhancements.
Truly revolting IMO.

ValarMorghulis · 09/02/2012 16:41

It is a very simple case of personal taste.

I am sure that when you are dressed up in your very best finery you still look a dogs dinner to some, yet most would have the manners and discretion to keep that opinion to themselves rather than be bloody offensive to literally thousands.

FaverOliverTwist · 09/02/2012 16:41

OP, you're only saying that because you've never seen the Puff the Magic Dragon tattoo :o
Google it, I dare you Wink

cluffyfunt · 09/02/2012 16:42

Hectate Glad you clarified that Grin

OP You have asked everyone you've ^ever* met if they like the look of tattoos?

Odd.

Yabu

aldiwhore · 09/02/2012 16:42

YABU, I'm not into tatoos and love skin as it is, but some designs are stunning, they suit some people very much and who the fuck gives a tiny one what you think?

How would you feel if someone said "AIBU to think that if Perriwinkle thinks she looks nice she's deluded?"

Its a matter of taste. Most people I know with tats love em.

theincredibequeenofwands · 09/02/2012 16:44

Funny, my tattoos recieve many, many compliments.

I guess it's the circles you move in.

I know lots of educated and arty people. Maybe that's it?
