To think that anyone who thinks that any of the tattoos they have look nice?

I totally understand that people can think that the tattoos they have are meaningful to them personally (i.e names of children, references to deceased relatives/friends or meaningful pictures/symbols that represent importnant points in their lives etc) but if they think that they look outwardly nice to other people then I'm sorry but I have yet to see a nice tattoo and everyone I ever meet seems to agree.

They look uniformly godawful regardless of whether they're bufferlies, roses, fairies, swirls, Japanese lettering, names written in gothic font or pictures of Marilyn Monroe.

Batskull · 09/02/2012 20:50

ds has some lovely Tattoos

Magneto · 09/02/2012 21:01

YABU, I don't have any tattoos and I don't want any. Dsis however currently has 3.

Two of them, some stars with her initial on her ankle (incase she forgets what letter her name starts with I think Wink) and a silly japanese symbol on the inside of her wrist which could mean anything but apparently does mean something very meaningful to her (not going to say what incase it outs her) are awful. I don't like them at all, think they're tacky and she will regret them later on.

However the third one (which was actually the first one she got) is beautiful. I've never seen one like it before or since and it really does mean something to her and also to me. It's quite large but it is across the bottom of her back so not really noticeable unless she's on a beach or something.

whackamole · 09/02/2012 21:03

YABU. And it's none of your business! Do you and your friends who all agree with you spend your time trying to sell laser removal or something?

KittieCat · 09/02/2012 21:05

AIBU to think that posters should ensure their titles make sense?

I love nicely done tattoos but it really is personal choice.

I'm not so forgiving about bad English, though...

undercoverPrincess · 09/02/2012 21:11

Each to their own. I like mine, I like my husbands (many). We don't care if other people don't. We don't have them for other people just for ourselves.

MyLittleMiracle · 09/02/2012 21:22

I have a tattoo on my shoulder and i love it, unfortunately, it also has my ex's name in it, which i want removed, but i will be keeping the rest of the tattoo and having my little ones name put in the old names place.

happydotcom · 09/02/2012 21:29

YABU.
I love my tattoos and don't give a flying fuck if anyone else thinks otherwise,

hathorinareddress · 09/02/2012 21:38

I love my tatts.

They aren't for anyone else they are for me, to remember how strong I am and that I can survive anything and in memory of all my children, even the angels.

And it's my body and my skin and I can do whatever the fuck I like

And DP loves them and thinks they are gorgeous - especially the really personal one - so that blows your assertion clean out of the water.

MyLittleMiracle · 09/02/2012 21:38

And by the way the hurt like hell! It hurt me more than childbirth!

LtEveDallas · 09/02/2012 21:46

I've seen many tattoos I like, some I love. Of course there are some horrors as well. My dragon always gets admiring comments, and was hand drawn so cannot be copied.

I used to spend hours watching Miami Ink and was stunned at some of the designs. Tattooists are artists and should be given the same respect (but hardly ever get it)

I'm spending lots of time thinking about my next tattoo - I know what I want, but not exactly how I want it - and unfortunately the chap that designed my dragon is dead Sad so I'll have to find someone else I trust. I know it needs to be a play on a triquetra but...

Sensible people put thought into their tattoos, that makes them special.

hathorinareddress · 09/02/2012 21:46

mylittlemiracle you wimp. They're wee buns Wink Grin

TheAvocadoOfInteriorDesign · 09/02/2012 21:51

I loathe all tatoos. But I also dislike pain au chocolat, so who cares what I think :o

frumpet · 09/02/2012 22:01

Personally i dont like them at all . I have nothing against other people having them , they are not for me . However i have looked after lots of people who are older who have come to hate their tatoos, and they never look quite so good once your skin is wrinkly and has lost its elasitiscty (sp?) and they have faded .
Might get one though if i make it to 80 Wink

sheepgomeep · 09/02/2012 22:06

I HAVE a skin disfigurement called vitiligo. Its very bad and has over the years affected my self esteem and my self confidence. I hated even looking at my skin as it disgusted me.

My tattoos helped me overcome my disgust of my body and helped me move forward a bit. The tattoo designs are also personal to me also.

And ive had some lovely comments too about them.

Idont give a flying fuck what some of you think about tattoos, they have really made a difference to my self esteem issues surrounding my body

frumpet · 09/02/2012 22:08

Also i would never ever get anything permanent inscribed in a language that i wasnt totally fluent in .

hathorinareddress · 09/02/2012 22:08

Sheep - funny, thinking about it, my issue was lack of self confidence - I have loads of issues around that but my tatts made me confident - I had the balls to design them and go and get them done and they put a huge Grin on my face everytime I think about them or look at them.

redroof · 09/02/2012 22:23

You, personally ANBU.

Tattoos are an art form, and not everyone appreciates art.

LizzieChickens · 09/02/2012 22:30

I'm not keen on the style of some of these, but the skill is stunning. That lion!

HeadyEddie · 09/02/2012 22:31

I really hate the look of tattoos, I would never have one but I don't care if others have them, each to their own.

Though I think its a shame that many seem to have the more common tattoos that you see a lot of rather than something more unique and personal to them, like the star on the wrist, Chinese symbol in between their shoulder blades, tribal band around the arm etc. But I guess certain things are in fashion for tattoos just like for clothes.
When I was at uni loads of the girls I knew had the chinese symbol for something or other somewhere about their person and now I know quite a few girls in their early to mid twenties that have small stars either on their wrists or near their thumb. Its like being in a club or something.

sheepgomeep · 09/02/2012 22:38

hathor.. not weird at all. I smile when I look at mine. I do have the stars on my wrist but not because I follow the crowd but because I genuinly love stars Grin

lookslikeacoconut · 09/02/2012 22:40

Nah. Hate mine, in fact I tried to get it removed using non- laser process called rejuvi (also called Eraze in this country I think?)
That was 6 months ago, I've been left with terrible scarring. Tat still very visible.
DON'T DO IT!!
It looks horrendous, far worse than the tattoo did.
Going to look into other methods of removal in a year or so. At least DD won't be able to say I dont know what I'm talking about when I tell her under no circumstances should she get one!!

Who was it that said tattoos are a bit like having to wear flares for the rest of your life?

BupcakesandCunting · 09/02/2012 22:50

What the flip is this thread title all about? Did OP put some boxing gloves on before trying to type it out?

I am considering a new one. Here is the design. What do you think?

Honeydragon · 09/02/2012 22:55

Shock Shock Shock Shock
You mean people some times do stuff other people don't like
Shock Shock Shock Shock

Good heavens you'll be trying to tell me there is a whole subculture of people who dislike cheese next.
