To think that anyone who thinks that any of the tattoos they have look nice?

I totally understand that people can think that the tattoos they have are meaningful to them personally (i.e names of children, references to deceased relatives/friends or meaningful pictures/symbols that represent importnant points in their lives etc) but if they think that they look outwardly nice to other people then I'm sorry but I have yet to see a nice tattoo and everyone I ever meet seems to agree.

They look uniformly godawful regardless of whether they're bufferlies, roses, fairies, swirls, Japanese lettering, names written in gothic font or pictures of Marilyn Monroe.

I don't have any but i've seen loads i really like and that i think look pretty. YABU

YABU

As others have said, it's personal taste.

I have two tattoos. One I'd still get done today, one I wouldn't. I don't mind it though as whenever I look at it I'm reminded of a carefree 19 year old who didn't give a fuck about what others thought of her. These days I'm mid-30s with a job, mortgage & two children so I have to give a fuck about some things and can't just go off on a whim. (Okay so I'm talking about wider issues than just tattoos now).

Anyway, I'm sure there's a point there that someone else can articulate better than I can - am quite sleep deprivation at the moment.

RatherBeACyborg · 09/02/2012 17:16

Also - why do you care what others do to their bodies?

TuftyFinch · 09/02/2012 17:17

I've got a spider web all over my face. Hair to chin. Ear to ear. I think people with no tattoos don't look very nice and everyone I know agrees.

AbsofCroissant · 09/02/2012 17:17

OP must have seen the absolute monstrosity my cousin's had done, and slapped pictures of it all over facebook (including nice shots of flab and side boob. Classy)

theincredibequeenofwands · 09/02/2012 17:19

Do you really have a spider's web on your face?

No judgement from me - I love tattoos.

:)

MissMap · 09/02/2012 17:22

I saw a girl with a diagram of a pair of hairdressing scissors tatooed on to her arm. I found that very useful as I did not have to enquire what she did for a living.

Perhaps this idea may catch on? Meat cleavers for butchers, Plungers for plumbers, Synaptic Vesicles for neuro surgeons etc.

Sevenfold · 09/02/2012 17:23

yabu
I love mine(bat skull)

FlightRisk · 09/02/2012 17:29

I like tattoos on men but no I think they look hideous on women.

Its a matter of choice and opinion tbh though.

CumberdickBendybatch · 09/02/2012 17:29

Good thing I don't give a monkeys what people like you think, isn't it.

As for compliments - people used to stop me in the street and tell me how amazing one of mine is... why would they do that if they didn't mean it?

Forrestgump · 09/02/2012 17:29

I havnt got a problem with them, some, I agree, can look beautiful. However the one I've seen this week on Michelle heaton (I think that's her name) looks absolutely awful!! But that maybe because she is chav, and so it was bound to look bad.

Sparklingbrook · 09/02/2012 17:29

I don't want one myself, but I think some of them are lovely. Not a huge fan of the tattoo sleeves or the whole of the back etc . Each to their own I think.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 09/02/2012 17:30

I wasn't aware that my tattoos had any fuction other than my own personal pleasure...

Not everyone is so hung up on other peoples opinion that it would matter tbh, those same people have often thought out their possible career options, personal and professional relationships, etc, and the draw backs of tattooing, piercing and the like and decided that its worth the trade, (if there even is one) I know i did, my tattoo on my face would exclude me from some walks of life, but after deep thought and self examination they were walks of life already void to me, for whatever reason and therefore "what the buggery" won and i went for it! No regrets :) other than offending the odd mumsnetter i suppose :)

Gincognito · 09/02/2012 17:32

Hmm, mine both look like shit and I wish I'd never had them done. They are cheap and nasty looking and I don't have the personality to pull them off.

But... I've seen some great ones - an ex-colleague in particular had some stunning organic designs (ostrich feather, plants) done by an incredible artist. Wish mine looked anything like that. Envy

Batskull · 09/02/2012 17:32

Babydubs, just looked at your pic, that is pretty

Garliccheesechips · 09/02/2012 17:34

YABU
My tattoos look gorgeous.

Why do you even care? If you wore something I thought looked like shit I might think about it for half a second and then move on.

Mind you, Sarah Harding's 'Don't be bitter, glitter' is f*cking shite.

LizzieChickens · 09/02/2012 17:34

[shrugs] Don't look, then. My tattoo isn't for you; it's for me.

Pandemoniaa · 09/02/2012 17:34

I think the OP has confused me with someone who gives a fuck.

As it happens, my tattoo is very nice indeed. But I don't plan to let her have a look.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 09/02/2012 17:35

Thankyou Batskull, :)

theincredibequeenofwands · 09/02/2012 17:37

Is this the butterfly tattoo near the poster's eye?

Is that you?

It is beautiful. Think I've said that before though!

PersonalClown · 09/02/2012 17:38

I couldn't give 2 fucks what you think.

I didn't go through hours to pain to please you or anyone else.

TuftyFinch · 09/02/2012 17:38

theincrediblequeenofwands no I don't but there used to be someone where I grew up that did. Over his whole face.

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 09/02/2012 17:40

Is this an attempt to get your thread on The Wright Stuff so you can win the competition Perriewinkle Grin

theincredibequeenofwands · 09/02/2012 17:44
