To wonder if anyone else has character traits they try to control because they feel are "not very nice"?

I have the following character traits which I am not very proud of - and consequently try to squash them:

a) Very intolerant of annoying people - sometimes I have to sit on my hands to avoid slapping them. Blush
b) Can become enraged over trivial domestic issues (e.g. jars I cannot open/electrical items that stop working) Blush.
c) Impatient - I am often to be caught out drumming my fingers with irritation when DH (or anyone else for that matter) causes a delay by faffing about or chatting to people for aaaaaages. Blush
d) I have to be "right" - even when I'm wrong. And I hate admitting I'm wrong Grin

I find I'm getting better with age - I'm maybe mellowing ?

I'm very, very unsociable, and my awkwardness makes other people feel awkward which makes me feel worse.

I try my hardest to control it, but the anxiety just seems to make matters worse Grin

I've given up seeing other people and feel much better Smile

SierraMadre · 29/11/2011 21:42

I am a shocking show off if allowed to get away with it I'm not careful.

I try and rein it in, honest Blush

FabbyChic · 29/11/2011 21:42

Im paranoid in relationships, jump to conclusions. I try but it never works. I've a diagnosed illness though that covers me, but I can't keep using that as an excuse. I've BPD. Its a god awful way to live.

brawhen · 29/11/2011 21:44

I can be very shorty and short-tempered, especially when tired. I save my worst behaviour for my family while maintaining face for the outside world.

bethelbeth · 29/11/2011 21:45

I used to get incredibly angry, over proper things, but so unbelievably red in the face and about to go Hulk style and quite scary.

Now I appear to be a doormat. regrets

signet2012 · 29/11/2011 21:45

I have the worst temper. I do try very hard not to flare up but I can feel it in my nose.

I am a lot better than I used to be and have stopped smashing my belongings and house in frustration mainly because I learnt I couldn't afford it.

But I would still love to at times.

Things that get me from 0 - boiling point in 2 seconds include- people who stop for chats in supermarket aisles, people on phones driving, my partner faffing about purposely going slower than slow because we are rushing, anyone who tries to insinuate that I'm thick, people knocking on my door on a Sunday morning disrupting my lie in to preach some shite to me.

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 29/11/2011 21:46

I have all those and more Grin but I find that as I get older, rather than mellowing and trying to control them, I am more likely to give free reign to my tongue and temper. I have no patience any more and just can't seem to make myself worry about what other stupid and annoying people think. The world is full of idiots and they are all in my way and on my nerves Grin

lambbone · 29/11/2011 21:47

OP- are you me?

Irishchic · 29/11/2011 21:47

Yes loads..but mainly Impatience and Intolerance...both of which are getting worse with age. Sad

Salmotrutta · 29/11/2011 21:49

Aw Agent you are lovely on here! And I'll bet in real life too Smile
Sierra - I realised I like to "hold court" too!
Fabby - Sad - I had a relative with BPD. She struggled too.
brawhen - I do that too!

Liking your honest answers folks! Smile

I can interrupt and talk over people if I dont watch it. I annoy myself doing it but i can't help myself. If I've got something to say I just can't help myself.

mumblechum1 · 29/11/2011 21:50

I'm an impatient showoff.

But I do try really hard unsuccessfully to control my bad points.

I hope my good points, of being a fucking friendly bastard (as my friend pointed out recently Hmm and generally kind to people sort of balance out my annoyingness.

Rhubarbgarden · 29/11/2011 21:50

I'm horribly critical of others. I never really realised it until someone I barely knew pointed it out to me in a very direct way. I was mortified because I realised it was true, and felt really quite depressed for quite some time. Now I'm more self aware, and I recognise when I'm thinking critical thoughts, and I make myself more tolerant and accepting. I think I have it under control, except when I'm very tired and the fault-finding starts Sad.

sheepgomeep · 29/11/2011 21:50

i have a gobby awful temper which is worse when tired/hungry or frustrated. I really rant and rave and swear. Its awful. I do try and control it and infact I'm not as bad as I used to be and I try and control it outside in public and now learning to let things go and walk away.

redpanda13 · 29/11/2011 21:51

OP - you sound exactly like me apart from the mellowing with age bit

I would be dead jealous of any of DH's former girlfriends. Luckily, he knows this and never, ever mentions them. So it's fine. Fine.

Rhubarbgarden · 29/11/2011 21:53

Redblanket - I do that too and I hate myself for it. It's so rude.

But honestly, I'd make you feel really uncomfortable Grin

Wow, it's been really windy today hasn't it?

Grin
ExcitedElectrons · 29/11/2011 21:56

I judge, I get jealous, I am bitchy and a bad temper.

I have a strong dislike for people. :o

signet2012 · 29/11/2011 21:56

right in my nose. Bloody awful it is! And I get a pulse in my neck which is clearly visible so I cant even hide that Im furious!

Salmotrutta · 29/11/2011 21:56

This is interesting!
I think I have good points too mumblechum which cancel out the bad.

Rhubarb - Sad - but your friend did a favour in a funny sort of way and now you are trying to address it. Good on you.
