If you meet someone, please do not block up the whole aisle with your trolleys at a 45 degree angle, while you chat to them. If you do, do not be surprised if I accidentally run into your trolley.

If you are dithering over which variety of hummous to buy, please do not block access to all other hummouses by parking yourself and your trolley in front of the display and then refuse access to other hummous buyers who know exactly which type they want to buy. (Ditto olives)

If you are self scanning, you do not need to locate the bar code on every item. Just waving it vaguely in the direction of the code reader will usually suffice.

Please do not allow young children to self-scan while there is a queue with me in it behind you. Older children may be permitted to self-scan if they have completed advanced scanning technique tuition.

If you are particularly dithery, please consider shopping at off-peak hours (between 9pm and 8am ideally).

Above all, maintain a sense of humour.

If we all follow the guidelines, we should all have more spare time to hang out on and MN and have a better quality of life.

Thank you. Wink

I can't believe you haven't mentioned putting shopping on the conveyor belt etiquette Shock

Not to mention the fact that it is your responsibility to put the divider in place if you don't want to pay for the shopping of the person behind you in the queue

PattySimcox · 07/11/2011 14:43

YANBU - could we instigate a keep left rule like they do on roads too?

DizzyCow63 · 07/11/2011 14:43

Yes to all the above!

And don't abandon your trolley in the middle of the aisle to go get something, blocking it for everyone else, then give me evils when I move it!

PattySimcox · 07/11/2011 14:44

Oh and if you've got an interesting shopping list then leave it for one of us to come and post

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 07/11/2011 14:46

DizzyCow just beat me to it!

I will move your abandoned trolley. Oh yes. I will move it.

Go ahead punk. Make my effing day.

onepieceofcremeegg · 07/11/2011 14:46

Even more importantly; if you note that someone who is apparently without young children parking in the Parent and Toddler spaces, just ignore it. Never waste time and effort worrying about it, and certainly don't waste your energy posting about it on mnet. Life is too short. Wink

MardyBra · 07/11/2011 14:46

Christine - what is the conveyor belt etiquette?

Can I ask you all not to push your trolley right forward so that I can't get back to the card reader to pay as I will probably push it right back at you.

Keep left rule is a possibility as long as the loiterers don't spoil it and get in the way.

YANBU

picnicbasketcase · 07/11/2011 14:46

I have started writing shopping lists in incomprehensible handwriting just in case it's found by anyone and posted on here. Not that mine usually involve voidka or heated baby.

ChristinedePizanne · 07/11/2011 14:48

ooh there was a huge thread on it a while ago which got vv heated :o

Someone behind the OP had started putting their items on the belt before the OP had emptied her trolley. It was shocking

RightUpMyRue · 07/11/2011 14:48

Hummouses?
Hummniae?
Hummini?

MardyBra · 07/11/2011 14:48

If you have a trolley that is a different shape to the ones where you are trying to park yours, please do not block the trolley bay by getting your quid and leaving yours at a funny angle where nobody can park theirs.

(Does anyone actually understand what I mean?)

AFuckingKnackeredWoman · 07/11/2011 14:49

YY and don't use your fingers in the pick and mix bit.

A right dirty bastard was coughing into her hand then using her dirty plague harbouring fingers to pick up sweets.

Ruined my asda experience on Saturday.

MardyBra · 07/11/2011 14:49

Shock at conveyor belt barging.

YABU.

I was recently told off by an old lady when I blocked a narrow section of the aisle for a mere five seconds (I was having to negotiate my way around another old lady who happened to be in MY way). So now, I'm quick to the point of neurosis, lest I should upset anyone else !

I make a point of smiling at people, too. Makes me feel better, even if they don't reciprocate.

TheVermiciousKnid · 07/11/2011 14:51

YABU because your guidelines are not in a nice, neat list. Hmm Otherwise YWNBU.

Here's another one: when it comes to paying, have your card/cash ready. You should know you that you need to pay at some point.

ProfYaffle · 07/11/2011 14:51

Oh God, yyyyy to the 45 degree trolley thing, that drives me insane, how do people not notice the queues building up around them?

Also people with baskets, you're not actually 'nipping' infront of my trolley with your weirdo body shimmy thing, you're just pushing in, making me do an emergency stop and causing a trolley pile up. Angry

onepieceofcremeegg · 07/11/2011 14:51

Oh that's nothing compared to what my colleague saw at our local Asda AFKW

They used to have a help yourself salad bar. A lady took this rather literally and was using the serving spoons to feed herself Shock

picnicbasketcase · 07/11/2011 14:52

Can I add - if you're in a queue and a new checkout is opened, it's polite to let people near the front go to it first, as they have been waiting longer. People at the back of the queue charging round and being first in the queue at the newly opened checkout are bloody rude.

MardyBra · 07/11/2011 14:52

Rightupmyrue I am a fan of a plainer plural. see this thread for details

CryingAtMyParty · 07/11/2011 14:53

Please put your DC with it's dirty shoes actually in the food section of the trolley. It saves me rolling all my subsequent purchases around on the pavement to coat them with germs.

Loonytoonie · 07/11/2011 14:53

Above all, maintain a sense of humour.

Yep, right back atcha' OP.

SamWidgiz · 07/11/2011 14:54

Sorry I meant YANBU!

RightUpMyRue · 07/11/2011 14:54

Fair enuff. I was only pulling your pisser Grin

MardyBra · 07/11/2011 14:55

K'niddy - I considered a list, but felt that this would be more of a pamphlet in real life so stop being so bloody anal
