to think modern 'rock' bands like 30 seconds to mars

sound so over produced that they sound way more poppy than 'real' rock like black sabbath

sort of girly rock

I like 30 seconds to mars but I agree, you can't beat Black Sabbath (and Deep Purple, early Whitesnake etc).

The only "modern" rockers I give respect to would be Green Day and the Foo Fighters. They sound meaty.

I call all of it "puss rock". I think because I'm old (42) nothing compares to old school rock and metal. There's nothing like 60's rock and 80's US punk and metal. I do have a bit of a soft spot for some of this new shite but not much. I can cope with Linkin Park and a few others but Metallica, Sabbath and Godsmack are soooo much better. I've already got the little lad boppin' away to it all!

I have recently discovered Avenged Sevenfold and they are brilliant. Dear God and Seize the Day are both excellent tunes..

We like the Foos so much we have a Mii on our Wii that looks like Dave Grohl. Ds (8) says 'Hi Dave Grohl' everytime he sees it.

I must confess, I do like my emo (Saves The Day, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Matchbook Romance)

But 30STM do feel too poppy for my liking. The first album (before they got famous) was ok, though. The second album, bearable. The third... SHOITE!

Oh, and if anyone confesses to being a Fall Out Boy fan, they need shooting.

I love 30stm - all i can say is that there is nothing tame or poppy about their gigs and I got the bruises to prove it ( so worth it)

30STM won a fair bit at the Kerrang! awards this week, so someone out there must like them.

(I rather like FOB, like Paschaelina says, everyone needs something to sing along to in the car on a sunny day...! Gave up being embarrassed about my musical taste some time ago )
