sound so over produced that they sound way more poppy than 'real' rock like black sabbath Grin

sort of girly rock

The first time I went to Donnington was 1981 and Whitesnake and AC/DC were headlining. I was 12 and it was brilliant.

StrawberryMewMew · 11/06/2011 19:18

I was at Download in 2004 in Glasgow. It was only on for the one day.

Slipknot were brilliant that year!

Cymar · 11/06/2011 19:25

The meatloaf concert I went to in 1997 was crackin. I had a bit too much to drink before getting the train and ended up at Lisburn Station when I should have got off at Balmoral (I'm in Northern Ireland BTW) for the Kings Hall. Got there eventually and Meatloaf was prancing around the stage sing, getting the crowd going and swearing. Not bad for a 3hr concert.

Most gigs in NI are usually at the Odyssey, the Waterfront Hall, Kings Hall and a couple of other venues. There's a few tribute bands who generally go to the Spring and Airbrake in Belfast. In August Eminem, Rihanna and other bands/artists are confirmed to be headlining at Ward Park in Bangor. Snow Patrol were headlining there last year. I could hear their songs from my house and I lived 2 miles up the road. Twas rather noisy and they went on way past my bedtime Grin.

GingerWrath · 11/06/2011 19:26

squeaky you are the same era as me! I was 18 when I went in 1990, Whitesnake headlined that year. I keep thinking I should grow up now I am a Mum and wife, but it never happens. Seems daft but I think metal is more than music, it's a calling.

Cymar · 11/06/2011 19:27

sing meant to be singing. Doh!!!

Cymar · 11/06/2011 19:29

More like a legal drug Ginger. Once it's in the system, it's hard to get rid of IYSWIM. I've love rock and heavy metal since I was in 1st year at High School.

squeakytoy · 11/06/2011 19:32

I am a grandmother (by marriage only.. but still get called Nanny) and I have absolutely no intentions of giving up my leather, lace and lycra!!!!

I met Steven Tyler last year (he just randomly wandered into one of my local pubs) and I spent most of the evening dumbstruck... but it was one of the highlights of my life!!! Grin

GingerWrath · 11/06/2011 19:39

You lucky lucky lady! I have met a few...lost my sis during E'nuff Z'nuff supporting Poison, turns out she was in the bar with E'nuff Z'nuff! We got invited to the hotel for the after gig party, so I met Poison, been on the Black Crowes tour bus, also met Little Angels. Those were the days!

Cymar that is a fabulous analogy!

My DH was an indy kid when I met him, he is now a die hard Metallica fan. He says he just doesn't like the 'screechy stuff' (sorry Axl)

squeakytoy · 11/06/2011 19:42

I would love to have met Bret Michaels back in the day. Although I watched him on Rock of Love the other year and it was so cringeworthy!! his solo albums are fairly good though.

Steve Tyler is a lot better looking in real life, and quite a nice bloke. Joe Perry is a bit of a minger in rl though.

GingerWrath · 11/06/2011 19:42

Oh oh oh....and shared a pint with Danger Danger annnnnnd had a chat with Mike Monroe (complete druggie and an idiot!)

squeakytoy · 11/06/2011 19:44

aahhhhhh Micheal Monroe.. now I loved his voice. And he was very gorgeous too. I love blokes wearing black eyeliner... :)

squeakytoy · 11/06/2011 19:46

Cymar, I am going to be in NI next week, for one night only. Can you recommend any decent bars in or around Portrush? Or live music venues that might have something on? :)

Cymar · 11/06/2011 19:46

Ooooohhhh. I'm so Envy Squeaky. Don't tell me us anymore Grin.

Cymar · 11/06/2011 19:51

Haven't been in Portrush for years Squeaky. The last time I was there was about 10yrs ago and I was fishing down the cliffs at the back of WaterWorld.
I will check on the net for any pubs and live music nights in Portrush and PM you. Would that do? Give me a few minutes.

GingerWrath · 11/06/2011 19:51

I had the most gorgeous boyfriend with blonde hair and eyeliner, unfortunately he had no personality!

I was very much the lycra, eyeliner and back combed hair rock chick, I still have a pair of stiletto heeled purple suede chelsea boots in my shoe collection, I just can't get away with it anymore.

Oh and I married an untattooed balding surfer!Grin

squeakytoy · 11/06/2011 19:57

Aw thanks, much appreciated Cymar. :)

Ginger, I married an untattooed short haired bloke too, but he did have enough piercings to give my mum her cats bum face... always a sign I had got it right. Grin

He did keep her happy and take them out for the wedding though, and he is quite normal looking now.... sadly!... haha...

GingerWrath · 11/06/2011 20:03

Hee hee..mine is a military man so not even a goatee in sight! My mother was delighted I'd chosen someone so wholesome (since corrupted by me)

And hands up to a BIG mistake, Aerosmith headlined Donnie in '90 NOT Whitesnake Blush In my defence it was 21 years ago and a lot bit of Jack has been consumed since!

AfterTheGoldRush · 11/06/2011 20:04

i am married to a dave grohl lookalike.

i have a thing for men with long hair...good job really.

i was very disappointed when i saw peter frampton a few years ago....he has gone bald!

squeakytoy · 11/06/2011 20:07

I was gutted that I couldnt go to Hard Rock Hell last December. I had an access all areas pass and had photo shoots lined up with a few of the bands, but the weather was so horrendous with snow that I couldnt make it. :(

Hoping for better luck this year!!

SarahLundsredJumper · 11/06/2011 20:11

Ginger Arf -that you have found the rock chicks -am 47 yr old mum Grin

Agree Corey has the most amazing voice- would say the best voice in rock ??
Also love Tyler Connollys voice -not sure how you would define Theory of a Deadman though.
Love love love "All or Nothing "

GingerWrath · 11/06/2011 20:12

Oh no...GUTTING! May I just say, I am a newbie here and this thread has been the first one where I have been spoken to directly, THANK YOU! (rock people and bikers are THE BEST!)

AfterTheGoldRush · 11/06/2011 20:17

..............i also like prog rock..............a lot............

edgar winter group, yes, king crimson et al...

(runs hiding head in shame)

Cymar · 11/06/2011 20:18

DH is 6'4", I'm 4'11" and we're like the Little and Large Show when we're walking down the street. DM met DH for the 1st time and she very slowly looked up at him (imagine slowly dragging your eyes to see a T-Rex face looking like it's about to chew yer head)). I was faintly amused when she said "Erm, you're a bit tall, aren't you? You're dinner's in the tree if you're hungry" Grin.

GingerWrath · 11/06/2011 20:21

Cymar I am also 4'11"! But what I lack in height I make up for with attitude!

Cymar · 11/06/2011 20:21

Welcome to MN Ginger BTW. It's loadsa fun here. HONESTLY Wink.

Squeaky did you get my message at all? Hope you did.
