sound so over produced that they sound way more poppy than 'real' rock like black sabbath Grin

sort of girly rock

Hmm Music snobbery at it's finest, wot?

I loathe the way labels are used to slander certain bands.
Who cares what label something is given? If you like it, you like it. If you don't, you don't. Don't get all miffy because it's not "proper" rock, because any given definition of "rock" will be different depending on who you ask. There are people who think the Black Eyed Peas, or Lady Gaga are "rock", so where does that leave us?

-bangs head against wall-

However I agree that 30STM are getting more wanky and pretentious as they go along. Loved the first album, the others not so much. And Jared is v. v. pretty despite being old enough to be my dad Grin

CurlyBoy · 10/06/2011 21:01

I agree xStargirl. I only call it puss rock to my wife because it annoys her!

I actually like a wide range of rock, metal, funk, folk and pop. You can't help which song sticks in your head and which one you loathe!

PersonalClown · 10/06/2011 21:01

Oh I don't know. There are some great songs on 'This is War'. Of course it is helped by Jared being so pretty.

If we are going by labels, let's not forget My Chemical Romance were deemed' dangerous' by the Daily Fail for encouraging emo teenagers to slit their wrists.Hmm

CurlyBoy · 10/06/2011 21:03

C'mon! I listend to Bauhaus and Joy Division when I was an impressionable teenager and I never slit my wrists!

MarianH · 10/06/2011 21:04

I am losing my AIBU virginity to say:

YAdefinitelyNBU Grin.

DontCallMePeanut · 10/06/2011 21:04

But, My Chemical Romance, on the whole, are quite positive.

I mean, FFS... "I am not afraid to keep on living"...

The Daily Fail are being selective again...

bruffin · 10/06/2011 21:04

i like Blink 182 and 30 Seconds to Mars, Avenge 7fold/Greenday/ MCR / Bowling for Soup my DCs have them on all the time, but I was never into heavy rock when I was younger more new wave/disco/jazz funk/new romantics/blue eyed soul.

DS is so excited he has tickets for Blink182

alistron1 · 10/06/2011 21:05

My kids love 30 seconds to Mars. And I've brought 'em up on Led Zep, The Doors, Bowie and Pink Floyd FFS. How could they?

I despair about the youth of today Wink

When I was their age I was a 'stuffie' (i.e I liked the Wonderstuff)...at least they were good and kind of cool! (although Miles Hunt is not what he used to be )

PersonalClown · 10/06/2011 21:07

Exactly Peanut.
The Black Parade was sad/depressing because it was written about the death of their Grandmother. I prefer 3 Cheers for Sweet Revenge.

< screams I'M NOT O-FUCKING-KAY!!!>

bruffin · 10/06/2011 21:08

"But, My Chemical Romance, on the whole, are quite positive."

My DD 13 went to a Killjoys (think thats what the call MCR fans)meet up last week. It was a picnic in jubilee gardens full of mainly 13 -16 year girls. They spent a lot of the time hugging and writing on each other.

squeakytoy · 10/06/2011 21:08

I am going to be in Rome very soon, and Avenged are playing while I am there, am sorely tempted to sneak away from my two mates and go to the gig.... Grin

maddy68 · 10/06/2011 21:09

The foos are the best live band I have ever seen - seeing them again a couple of weeks - cant wait!

PersonalClown · 10/06/2011 21:12

It must be done Squeaky.

I admit to having Panic! at the Disco stuck in my head right now.
And I don't fancy Brendon Urie at all, I swear!

StrawberryMewMew · 10/06/2011 21:13

I'm with Peanut with Taking Back Sunday, Brand New etc.

But I do love really heavy music. But my favourite alt' band by far is Placebo!!

squeakytoy · 10/06/2011 21:14

My bedroom walls were floor to ceiling with

Poison
Guns n Roses
Whitesnake
Motley Crue
Van Halen
LA Guns

and many more of the 80's bands...

We went to the USA on a driving holiday and I discovered Hair Nation radio which played all the old and new stuff... perfect trip!!!

I love all sorts of music, but my heart, and dress sense, will always be rock!

superv1xen · 10/06/2011 21:16

YANBU!

i am only 31 but love 70's classic rock like sabbath, zeppelin, deep purple, cream, hendrix etc...the modern rock stuff is mostly shite IMO

other than foo fighters possibly. and i am quite excited about black country communion.

PersonalClown · 10/06/2011 21:16

Guns n Roses woke the Rock Goddess in me when I was 9 years old and I heard Appetite for Destruction.

I haven't looked back ever since.

SarahLundsredJumper · 10/06/2011 21:19

Huge Foos fan ! like 30STM and Bullet for my Valentine -play loud !
Current faves Stone Sour -Corey mmmmmm Blush

superv1xen · 10/06/2011 21:20

oh god and i love early guns n roses, ie appetite for destruction

and iron maiden, am going to see them next month and i cant wait!

squeakytoy · 10/06/2011 21:21

I was more excited to be in LA and go to all the famous (infamous) gig venues and bars, than seeing the more "traditional" sites...

I also have a big thing for Kid Rock too...even though he has moved more to country rock and ballad stuff now.... I still love him and his music.

I have always hated Pamela Anderson, purely for the reason that she has either shagged or married every bloke I have fancied...

DontCallMePeanut · 10/06/2011 21:21

Wasn't 3 Cheers also about their grandmother's death? I know Helena was written about her, and I was under the impression The Ghost Of You and a few more tracks were, as well.

The "I am not afraid to keep on living" lyric came from The Black Parade (I think it was the title song, if not, it was a song on the album)

Bruffin, yup, they're Killjoys. I was quite touched recently, after a killjoy was a victim of cyber bullying, which resulted in her attempting suicide, the rest of the Killjoys on Twitter rallied round, got a trending topic in her name and basically made the whole of twitter aware of what happened. She seemed genuinely touched by the support. Anyone claiming MCR are a negative influence should look at the dynamics of the MCRmy (their collective name) to see how positive the group are on a whole.

Squeaky You HAVE to do it. Hell, take your friends, too... CONVERT them!

Maddy, best band I've ever seen live are Machine Head, thrash metal band. I'm slightly in love with Robb Flynn, the lead vocalist.

PersonalClown Brandon Urie based crushes are PERFECTLY acceptable. Wink

DontCallMePeanut · 10/06/2011 21:23

Oooh, Strawberry I'm seeing TBS for the first time in August. I cannot wait... Grin

DontCallMePeanut · 10/06/2011 21:24

SarahLunds Ooooh, Corey is GORGEOUS! Although, I did prefer him with long hair... I have a thing about guys with long hair...

PersonalClown · 10/06/2011 21:25

How could I forget Corey?? I love Stone Sour/Slipknot!

I even got Toadboy Ds singing to Through Glass and Duality!
I got told off by some nosey bag who said it wasn't appropriate music for a child. I turned the volume up in response!!Wink

StrawberryMewMew · 10/06/2011 21:26

Ahhh Peanut it wont be the same!
Their first album was really the only awesome one. :(

I loved them too, and very nearly seen them about 7 years ago.

I hope you have a good time. :)
