sound so over produced that they sound way more poppy than 'real' rock like black sabbath Grin

sort of girly rock

Totally gutted that I am sat at home and not at the hallowed ground that is Donnington Park!

me too ginger ...i am having to suffer constant fb updates from friends that are there Envy

might hide their feeds for a few days :o

GingerWrath · 11/06/2011 10:34

Snap superv1xen, FB is winding me up with the likes of 'so and so is smashed in front of the main stage'Envy

Have told dd we will save up and take her next year, she will be nearly 6 Grin

DontCallMePeanut · 11/06/2011 10:58

Download is the sole reason I've blocked 3 friends for the weekend... I was thinking of taking DS when he gets to 5 or 6...

GingerWrath · 11/06/2011 11:08

DontCallMePeanut, do you think that is about the right age? I don't remember seeing kids there last time I went in '04, but then again, I wasn't looking for them!

DontCallMePeanut · 11/06/2011 11:13

Oooh, Ferret... Josh Homme is gorgeous!

But not as gorgeous as this guy...

DontCallMePeanut · 11/06/2011 11:16

I have no idea, wrath, but then a friend said he saw quite a few families there last year.

I do think they should do a mini Download for under 9's... Wink

squeakytoy · 11/06/2011 13:54

Cinderella are on in London on 23 June, so I will hopefully be going to that. :)

squeakytoy · 11/06/2011 13:57

25 June... not 23rd...

alittlebitcountry · 11/06/2011 14:02

....joins Download envy support group Grin
I'm with you Ginger for System of a Down and stone sour - not so much for Slipknot.
If you're talking voices my vote is for Chris Cornell.

GingerWrath · 11/06/2011 14:17

I'd love to see Cinderella. They are pretty much the only band of that era I never saw live! Alas is not to be as I am stuck in the north of the country!Angry

squeakytoy · 11/06/2011 14:37

This is one of the reasons I do love living so close to Central London.. when US bands do one gig in the UK on their tour, it is almost always in London.

There is a "mini" festival in North Wales every year though, which always has a good line-up of old bands. Hard Rock Hell.

GingerWrath · 11/06/2011 15:50

That looks really good! Have seen Quireboys about 4 times already.

Unfortunately I have no say where we live as DH's job dictates that for us. The sooner we get back Darn Sarf, the better!

lazarusb · 11/06/2011 16:30

alittlebitcountry I second Chris Cornell voicewise. I loved Layne Staley's voice too (Alice in Chains) - nice and sleazy Grin
Can I recommend Does it Offend You, Yeah? to you all. They are great, especially live. They have supported Linkin Park, Prodigy and Marilyn Manson in the past, well worth a listen.
I'd love to see the Foos live but for some reason have never quite managed it Sad

StrawberryMewMew · 11/06/2011 16:55

I have Marilyn Manson's Last FM station on here. :) 'Tis making me cheery.

I also wish I was at Download, Sonisphere is much better though.

I spent my whole Summer at festivals last year because I knew I wanted to get pregnant this year.... I was still tempted to go though and just camp in the disabled section where it's quiet. :(

Oh and Corey Taylor...... I would well do him. :o

StrawberryMewMew · 11/06/2011 16:57

Oh and just to add, I'm really pissed off that all the people that spent months moaning on FB about Download and how they couldn't wait are stood at the stages updating FB!!!

Watch the fucking bands and get the fuck off FB!!!

GingerWrath · 11/06/2011 17:49

Or pass your ticket on to someone who will! (ME ME ME!)Smile

StrawberryMewMew · 11/06/2011 17:51

Ginger We could go and steal someones wrist bands!
Fancy sneaking in with someone 6 months pg and a bit mental? Wink

GingerWrath · 11/06/2011 18:16

Strawberry I took my sis to see Velvet Revolver when she was 8 months....I thought she'd pop when Slash came on stage...I am up for it if you are! (packs clean towels and a flask of boiling water)

bethelbeth · 11/06/2011 18:22

One of my good friend's bands have played Hard Rock Hell for the last few years Squeaky, you might have spotted them.... Attica Rage?

And FWIW, Download is pants... Sonisphere is much better! festival snob alert

StrawberryMewMew · 11/06/2011 18:26

bethel I'm glad someone agrees about Sonisphere! Best festival ever.
I'm a bit of a festival snob as well. :o

Ginger If I lived closer I would definitely be tempted! :(

GingerWrath · 11/06/2011 18:36

I am reminiscing now, my first ticket to Donnie cost £35, and that included the coach from South Wales (Shit I am OLD!)

Littlepurpleprincess · 11/06/2011 18:39

I just typed a really long and (obviously) fasanating answer to this thread, then hit the wrong button and deleted it all.

General point was that I like 30 seconds to mars......

StrawberryMewMew · 11/06/2011 18:41

Haha, mines was a fair bit dearer than that. I first went in 2006.

Met a group of Welsh guys last year though! One of them was on Britains Got Talent a couple of years ago, he was one of the funny ones. :o

This is him on BGT, funniest audition ever!!

GingerWrath · 11/06/2011 19:09

I went in 2004, when Lars didn't turn up for Metallica's set. Joey Jordison was AWESOME guesting with them! \m/ (rock hands)

Cymar · 11/06/2011 19:14

Squeaky, Dragonforce are quite good. DH brought a CD of their's home one day and I wasn't sure about them initially, but they're the type of band that could grow on you. I love their songs Trail Of Broken Hearts and Heart Of A Dragon. Most of their lyrics are based on fantasy.

I've been listening to Avenged for a few years now. DH say he remembers them a good lot of years ago, before we moved to Northern Ireland and that was at good 4yrs ago. I love their songs Nightmare, Little Piece Of Heaven, Dear God, Strength Of The World.

Dream Theatre are f*ing brilliant. You should get their greates hits album. It's got the Dark Side and the Light Side. The songs on the Light Side are pretty easy listening. Some of the songs can move you to tears though. Haven't got round to listening to the Dark Side yet, but will do in time. Got their song The Spirit Carries On playing at the moment. It's the sort of tune that could possibly move you Smile.

Other bands I love are:

Judas Priest
AC/DC
Rolling Stones
Rammstein
System Of A Down
Megadeth
Nickelback (especially their album Dark Horse)
Kiss
Motley Crue
Within Temptation
ZZ Top
Iron Maiden
Alice Cooper
Thin Lizzy
Def Leppard
Journey
Foreigner
Metallica
Guns 'N' Roses
Bob Dylan
Eric Clapton and quite a few more.
