I have a bit of an addiction for Harry Potter fanfic stories of the non-slash variety

I like potionsandsnitches.com especially but sometimes I venture out into the big wide world of fanfiction

and I have wondered for a while about stories which are adult rated and refer to "non-con" or "chan" sexual relationships between adults and underaged kids (HP and his friends, usually)

shurely these stories are illegal? You can't just write lurid fantasies about child abuse and rape and post them on the net, can you?

And if it isn't illegal, well it bloody well should be

pocketsocks Try some of these No idea what's in there, but they should all be gen and the one at the top by Pandarus should be fab. She's an incredibly talented writer whether she's writing gen or slash; I've read most of her fic (she's actually the person who got me into Harry/Draco)

And on that note, I just have to rec this Buffy fic. It was written post buffy's swandive at the end of series 5 and goes far future AU from there, but I just love it.

It's R so there is some sex stuff but nothing hugely explicit. (and in the spirit of this thread everybody is over the age of consent and consenting) Phoenix Burning

Of course, the Bible itself contains plenty of child abuse and murder. Fanfic, on the other hand, cannot be said to have triggered wars or genocide in very many places.

Oh I remember reading a buffy one where she fell into the past and ended up in London when Spike was still human. Cant remember the name of it though!

Canon is a tricky issue. Poor Buffy has sex when underage, gets treated like shit by the guy afterwards then a few years later is nearly raped by an ex...

Little bit awkward (and pretty offensive in it's own way) if you're supposed to somehow forget about all that when you write stories about her.

I have read a couple of that style ABF - there was a really good one where she ended up living with the Rominov's! But it was never finished.

MrsDmitri, do you read the Merlin stuff on the lj Arthur/Merlin comm? I wrote some Merlin stuff a while back but is it just me or are their mods fierce . I'm so bloody terrified I'll tag something wrong, I don't dare post it. They're very snippy.

I read fic from there occasionally - it's on my flist so I'll read something that grabs me as I scroll through. TBH, I don't know the meeting places in merlin/arthur so I'm very much on the periphery of the fandom. I only really started to read the fic last year because of Pandarus' (her again!) The Student Prince, then I googled for Merlin rec lists, discovered the also rather amazing Astolat wrote in the fandom too and read all those, then finally trawled through the Merlin/Arthur tags on delicious.

Merlin fandom as a whole on LJ seems a tad uptight, but I'm in the Supernatural fandom which has a laissez faire attitude towards fic. Well we'd have to, until S4 the OTP was (and still is for a lot of people) an incestuous slash pairing with a canon childhood backstory that at best is neglectful and at worst out-and-out abusive.

[Totally still doing dissertation] If you don't like fierce mods, don't go near the sherlockbbc comm. It's sad because it's the main one and the fandom is really quite excellent, laid-back, full of lots of good fic (admittedly a fair bit of dross too, but the balance is good) but the main mod, icedmaple, hates the majority of the fans (she even admits so on her journal) and is constantly smacking down on someone in a totally disproportionate manner. And she fails to accept that perhaps if the majority of the fandom want something x way and she doesn't agree, she should either bend to their will, seeing as they make up the damn fandom, or she should just stop being a mod. I have no idea why she keeps doing it; she must get off on the power or something.

Also, I've not watched Merlin but agree Asolat is amazing. Was it her that did the SPN/HP crossover where the Impala was made by goblins or something?

I've got The Student Prince and some of Astolat's stuff (okay a lot) in mems.

I spend most of my time in SPN tbh. The Merlin stuff I only ended up reading because somebody on my flist wrote something (cherrybina iirc) and I was bitten by an idea.

Okay, I've admitted my SPN addiction already but I've never come across Archive of our own before. I'm so pleased it's been mentioned as there are loads of authors there I've never heard of before. Once I've trawled it for a while I may decide I don't like any of them but for now I have my evening's entertainment laid out in front of me.

Did I miss a link to a SPN archive? I see the rec community but there's so much RPS on there I don't feel like weeding through it find the stuff I really want to read.

I put a link to someone with a huge rec list earlier that had a gen section (and no RPS). If you say which way your interests lie I can have another look, but I'm off to the Kapow Comic Con this weekend (Merlin panel ) so won't get back on here until late this evening.

I'm not too sure what I'm looking for in a twilight ff, nothing sick, unbelievable or too messed up, dirty is fine, preferably all the characters paired up as they were originally in the book to start with!

Maybe some really well written Dean/Cas? Any rating!

Bringing it back to the OP though, I can't be the only one to have stumbled upon a story that makes me go , there are certainly a few in the HG/SS world that use rape as a plot device to get them shagging, just chuck it in there like it means nothing. She gets kidnapped, only way to save her is for him to rape her in public, she is so grateful she doesn't at all mind and falls in love with him. It astounds me that people can think that is in any way realistic (well ok it is fanfic so not realistic anyway).

More common than the kidnapping fics though are the marriage law fics, now there's a trope.
