I have a bit of an addiction for Harry Potter fanfic stories Blush of the non-slash variety

I like potionsandsnitches.com especially but sometimes I venture out into the big wide world of fanfiction

and I have wondered for a while about stories which are adult rated and refer to "non-con" or "chan" sexual relationships between adults and underaged kids (HP and his friends, usually)

shurely these stories are illegal? You can't just write lurid fantasies about child abuse and rape and post them on the net, can you?

And if it isn't illegal, well it bloody well should be

Mozette, what sort of fic do you like?

LaWeasel · 07/04/2011 16:21

I was really enjoying Anita Blake until it got to that point when she had just pushed anita's character too far out of shape. She has banned her fans from writing fic too y'know? (bit petty in the circs!)

mumofaflump - cassandra claire was a plagarist who alleged stole 10k from her fans after collecting donations to replace 'stolen' laptops... (I read the first but wasn't fussed!) but she is a published author now.

I started in Buffy, dabbled in HP and Firefly. Hang out with the Twilight people now. (But still love Buffy)

Skinit · 07/04/2011 16:22

If it walks like a horse and neighs it's a horse. Children...sex....illegal and pervy.

LaWeasel · 07/04/2011 16:25

... but that's a fallacy.

SpringchickenGoldBrass · 07/04/2011 16:27

Two words....
My Immortal.

EricNorthmansMistress · 07/04/2011 16:28

Neither illegal nor pervy! At least not the way I understand the word pervy. Perverted to be aroused by stories of child sexual abuse, certainly, but most fanfic stories that include sensitive themes are not intended to arouse or be considered porn. Some are, and no doubt their writers and readers do have major issues. However 1) plenty of literature and art includes sensitive themes, does not mean it should be banned and 2) arguably enjoying written stories about child sexual abuse is harmless, especially if it takes the place of seeking out images or actively abusing a child. I'm not defending people who are aroused by child abuse in the least, but I would argue that if it's contained to writing/sharing stories that's safer than the alternative.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 07/04/2011 16:31

Mumofflump - oh I have come across that as well!! Blush

Myimmortal - the best worst ff ever written, it is infamous!!!

I did right a couple of Buffy crackfics which were plastered with lots of warnings, basically parodies and a chance to get rid of a character I hated in a nasty way Grin

KaraStarbuckThrace · 07/04/2011 16:31

right?? write!!!

Obviously I do spell & grammar check my fanfics Blush

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 07/04/2011 16:31

Cassandra Clare is a published author who's well on the way to do a JK Rowling - they're currently casting for the movie of City of Bones. I'll admit I think she's fab, but I wasn't around when all the plagiarism/money scamming stuff was going on.

I have plenty of fic bookmarked, but whether you'd like them depends on what angle your looking for.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 07/04/2011 16:32

your = you're Blush

KaraStarbuckThrace · 07/04/2011 16:32

Snap, Mrskrushnic!!!

Thingumy · 07/04/2011 16:33

I agree with you skinit

I had a quick look at some of the adult 'fanfic' as I've not read or heard of it before.

Hmm at the adult child abuse scenarios out there and I quit reading after about 40 seconds.

I really don't get the feel that it was an abuse survivors outpouring.

Oh and a few books that I have read which are accounts of childhood abuse have never glorified the abuse or even gone into dramatic detail.

EricNorthmansMistress · 07/04/2011 16:34

Did you thingumy? You just had a 'quick look' at fanfic and came across multiple stories about child sexual abuse? Really?

helendigestives · 07/04/2011 16:35

When I was 14/15 I was definitely imagining some time in alone with Professor Snape in his dungeon... Blush

Thingumy · 07/04/2011 16:36

I've just been on adult fanfic and read one page that referred to a 'young boy' and a older man with his hand down the boys pants yup.

Thingumy · 07/04/2011 16:37

The story was on the main page so I didn't go 'searching' either

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 07/04/2011 16:39

I'm curious what you googled, and what fandom you were looking at actually.

mayorquimby · 07/04/2011 16:40

"Children...sex....illegal and pervy"

Well yes, obviously actual sex with actual children is illegal. But I can see no reason why someone writing a fictional story about it should incur any legal sanctions.

EricNorthmansMistress · 07/04/2011 16:40

Yep - I've never come across a story featuring child sexual abuse, either by accident or on purpose. Did you google 'fanfiction underage children'? Hmm

RevoltingPeasant · 07/04/2011 16:41

Tee it's a Snarry where Harry has to become S's slave; turns out S's hair is because of a potion.

Tho' that might be a common theme, who knows.....

RevoltingPeasant · 07/04/2011 16:43

EricNorthman, I've come across several, but they were handled in ways that didn't glorify it.

Lots of 16+ with adults stuff, and that is more eroticised, ime.

But again - if no one is being hurt in the making of it, then our own personal disturbance is not a reason to make it illegal (not directed at you ENM, obv).

Thingumy · 07/04/2011 16:44

I only googled adult fanfic

It came up with this site

www.adultfanfiction.net/

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 07/04/2011 16:46

I've read loads where it's because of the potions he brews (fumes) and I'm sure I've read ones where it's something he puts in to protect it from said fumes, and I've never read the fic you mentioned (although I've now bookmarked the redux Cambiare Podentes: Invocare, so thanks for that Grin)

transferbalance · 07/04/2011 16:47

Lolita is a novel about a paedophile and a child, but that's considered a classic

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 07/04/2011 16:52

adultfanfiction.net , bad!fic central.

Thingumy, not disputing what you said at all, just curious - when I go into the site I get the age restriction page then the main page which has no fic, just fandom lists. I'm just trying to see what you saw to see if it's usual for the fandom, or if it's weird one Smile
