I was thinking last night about all the different trends we had at school and how they are nothing compared to today's (iPhones pandora bracelets etc). To start off a few that I can remeber from my school days , naf co 54 coats ( nasty and cheap looking but cost a fortune) every other person in the school que had one.
Plastic dummies worn as necklaces (weird one that)
bleached fringes so ugly but we thought we looked great.
Light up trainers
all of which got banned after a while .

Granny shoes - plastic sandals with a sort of peep toe.

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 14/02/2011 08:39

Naff Naff coats

Jelly bracelets (just black though)

Slouch socks, the bigger the better!

Wearing a scarf at all times. even in class

Thin poker straight fringes

At primary school, it was slip on shoes (no buckles!) and rolling your long socks down, so you had a fat roll round your ankle

Bellagio · 14/02/2011 08:41

The weirdest one was around aged 7, we had a craze where everyone would scratch and scratch the bridge of their noses until they broke the skin! The bigger the scab the better, like a badge of honour. I remember everyone getting a letter home about it.

We used to collect all sorts of bits and pieces from magazines, cut them out and collage them on our folders, then laminate them with sticky back plastic from John Menzies.

We also did the Grolsch stoppers, jellybean shoes (and bags) and love beads (remember them?)

TiggyD · 14/02/2011 08:42

Day-glow socks
Yo-yos several times
POGs
Pastel colours for boys

cocolepew · 14/02/2011 08:42

Wearing 2 pairs of socks with your pixie boots
Hair short at sides and back, longer on top and a skinny plait hanging down the back.

Bellagio · 14/02/2011 08:42

piratecat · 14/02/2011 08:51

cocolepew, omg i remember having a 3 inch plait of hair with an elastic band in it, i think i got my mum to cut it off after a week.

I was a bit confused, i was a Mod, but kept taking on some of the 80's general fashions!!

Relax tshirt anyone (swim)!!

bellavita · 14/02/2011 08:53

Bay City Roller stuff here too
Harrington Jackets
Army & Navy bags

Hair longer at one side than the other - chanelling the Phil Oakley look. I worked in a hairdressers as a Saturday girl and I had it done there, they also dyed my fringe red. Whe I got home, my mother went mad, not about the colour, but about one side been longer than the other - she chopped it off! Needless to say I was not very popular when I went into work the following week.

bellavita · 14/02/2011 08:54
