I was thinking last night about all the different trends we had at school and how they are nothing compared to today's (iPhones pandora bracelets etc). To start off a few that I can remeber from my school days , naf co 54 coats ( nasty and cheap looking but cost a fortune) every other person in the school que had one.
Plastic dummies worn as necklaces (weird one that)
bleached fringes so ugly but we thought we looked great.
Light up trainers
all of which got banned after a while .

Jenny I am 10 years older than you. Mind you, I did go to school in London so we were clearly a decade ahead.
Padded cards, I could only dream of getting a padded card and those girls who did get one brought them into school to show them off Envy
And, on the subject of cards, the gigantic, I mean really ridiculously big ones, probably about a metre by 70cm. WTF was that all about?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 14/02/2011 10:31

And the impulse had to be the one in the brown tin.
Roll on lipgloss (super yuck with all the sharing that went on)
Denman hairbrushes were the one of choice and an afro comb for those of us with a home perm rather than a wedge haircut.

JennyRobyn · 14/02/2011 10:36

You are right with the london thing. We are in a small town which would get the london trends much later.

Yes also remember the brown impulse thing that was the only one i ever wore!!

I still have my afro combs although the permed hair went a long time ago!!

propercrimbo · 14/02/2011 10:37

Magic steps clarks shoes which had a gem in the top and a key in the sole.
Slap on arm bands and swatch watches, I didn't have a swatch watch but I did find one in the woods and it was the best day ever! Grin
Naff co fleeces and shell suits.
Sun in fringes.
Shag bands (the first time round)
White tights Blush
Push down socks, slouch socks I think they were called... hideous!
Dewberry/White Musk/Charlie Red/Exclamation perfume
Ties the wrong way round and skirts rolled up
Scratching your latest loves name in your pencil tin with a compass point, or writing it on your bag
Good god... we were really uncool!

Junior School

Lolo balls
Fluorescent socks (had to be odd)
Saying "spam" and hitting people in the forehead
Anything good was "skill" or "casual"
Periodic marble crazes

Senior School (in order of appearance)

Puffball skirts
Snow wash tight jeans with zips down the ankles
Huge hoop earrings
pale pink frosted lipstick a la Wendy James
Those shoes with grolsch pottle tops across the front
Hooded tops (the first time around)
Doc Martin Boots

Ariesgirl · 14/02/2011 10:38

fingerless gloves
fluorescent socks Shock
"surf" clothing (circa 1989)
layered perms
wearing your tie thin and rolling your blazer sleeves up

fluffyliquorice · 14/02/2011 10:39

Fluorescent socks and fingerless gloves
White cotton trousers with bottoms rolled up, a la' Wham!
So many bangles up each arm you could barely move them
Swapping Smash Hits stickers
Being a devout Spandau, Duran or Wham! fan and professing life long hatred of the other two

propercrimbo · 14/02/2011 10:39

LilJMc Global Hypercolour, how could I forget!! Sweat revealer at it's worst! Grin

Ariesgirl · 14/02/2011 10:39

BaggedandTagged, are you from South Wales? Your Junior school sounds exactly like mine Grin

LtEveDallas · 14/02/2011 10:39

So many tends to choose from - my poor mother Smile

Junior school was pixie boots, side pony-tails, straight skirts with a row of pleats at the very bottom, "Y" cardigans

Senior school - gawd, every 6 months a different 'have to have'

Danny Kayes
Sta press
Farrahs
Short hair with rats tails
Waffle jumpers
Huge jumpers (generally belonging to dad) over school uniform so only about an inch of skirt showed.
Spiked hair with shaved panels and the edges backcombed out (al la Howard Jones or Tayah Wilcox) - I used to get called 'Batfink' because "my wings are like a shield of steel" Grin Insett Spikey hairspray has a lot to answer for!
Pepe Jeans
Athena Bags
Pin strip Denim (that we sewed ourselves into)
MA1 Flight Jackets (But I have to say - MINE was the original one - everyone else copied ME, grrrr)
Pink eyeshadow, blue eyeliner, blue mascara
Then in my goth phase - permed black hair and lots of black eyeliner. Too long black skirt and an attitude! Listening to The Smiths / Cult / Cure / Damned in the park on someone's "Ghetto Blaster" Grin

Ariesgirl. No, I'm from the South East. Clearly these great trends just kept on travelling Grin

Limara · 14/02/2011 10:43

LtEveDallas are you early 40"s? Your talking my language!

I was really into Rebel Yell by Billy Idol. I used to wear leopard print skinny's and shaved the sides of my head with a small plait at the nape of my neck too!

Ariesgirl · 14/02/2011 10:44

I haven't seen a lo-lo ball since about 1986. I had one for my 11th birthday and could do over 100 bounces

Limara · 14/02/2011 10:44

LtEveDallas I still listen to the Smiths, I adore their albums.

Limara · 14/02/2011 10:48

BaggedandTagged · 14/02/2011 10:49

"I haven't seen a lo-lo ball since about 1986. I had one for my 11th birthday and could do over 100 bounces "

Yes, they were strangely addictive. I spent literally hours on mine until I could stay on it for about 2 hrs without falling off. I had calves of steel by the end.

They should bring them back- they'd cure childhood obesity at a stroke.

Limara · 14/02/2011 10:53

Yes the 'Y' cardigans .......

tank tops
burgundy sta press
Long skirts, stripy ones
Loafers
DM shoes

LtEveDallas · 14/02/2011 10:53

Limara - I'm 39 this year, but had older, very 'trendy' brother whose girlfriends I copied!

Became a 'ScooterSkin' (again copying brother) for a while - ohh I coveted his Vespa 125 T5. AND his Flat-top!

We also had CB - Magnamount on the car and a 40 ft Di-pole on the side of the house ("1-4, 1-4 for a copy, Little devil wants to chat" Blush)

Ski Pants
Batwing Jumpers
Monk Buckle DMs
Baggy jeans with turnups
Fred Perry T shirts
Tiny denim Mini shirts with thick black tights and DMs

(I look at myself now and I'm gutted at how off-trend I am - need to live vicariously thru DD I think)

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 14/02/2011 10:54

You can still buy lo lo balls
