I was thinking last night about all the different trends we had at school and how they are nothing compared to today's (iPhones pandora bracelets etc). To start off a few that I can remeber from my school days , naf co 54 coats ( nasty and cheap looking but cost a fortune) every other person in the school que had one.
Plastic dummies worn as necklaces (weird one that)
bleached fringes so ugly but we thought we looked great.
Light up trainers
all of which got banned after a while .

I can't stop laughing ha ha

LtEveDallas · 14/02/2011 11:02

Limara, yep we started AM, but went FM when my dad realised DB could get us all into trouble!

Did one RV, but it was a 'huge' one. Lots of people agreed to meet at the top of Robinswood Hill in Gloucester (fantastic signal). Remember going up and realising almost everyone there was driving the same cars (Mk 1 or Mk 2 Escorts or Cortinas!). Was obvs another trend!

Was it 1-9 for a trucker? and the Emergency channel, 12 or 9??

JennyRobyn · 14/02/2011 11:04

There are so many here that bring back memoies that i had otherwise forgotten.

Here are some more,

Revesable quilted jumpers that often would have cartoon characters on them

Crinkly nylon ski pants that came in pastel colours, Pink, blue, lemon, mint green

(junior school)

Batwing jumpers that had a black background with a pattern on it I.E. paisly, spots in bright colours. (Cerise pink, electric blue, Jade green)

Noveltly and plastic earings, The plastic ones being like coloured buttons without the holes and novelty ones shaped like zips, sfety pins, buttons, and cats/animals with the head in one ear and the back end in the other

(senior school)

Limara · 14/02/2011 11:05

LtEveDallas I did a few RV's in Portland Street Car Park!
in town- I think you know where I mean? We are close?

Yes to MK 1/2 Escort/Cortina's!

My handle was Diamond Edge.

We used to do fox and hounds again laughing and Grin ing!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 14/02/2011 11:07

1-9 for a copy, copy copy, what twig have you got?
I did go and eyeball a couple of people, one of whom was really odd and gave me a pound note to buy a drink with when he couldn't get his car to start.
If I ever thought my DD was meeting random people off the CB world I would go spare.

Limara · 14/02/2011 11:08

I had my first kiss with a boy I RV'd with-' Lecky Lad' from Leckhampton Grin

Limara · 14/02/2011 11:11

kreecherlivesupstairs- yeah, playing with fire, we used to go in big groups so felt ishly safe....

I used to go on my CB under the duvet well into the night,so bad....

DrNortherner · 14/02/2011 11:16

I had one of those reversible jumpers, mine was pink and white with 101 dalmations on it. Big picyure on one side and little pics on the reverse so you could roll up the sleeves.

Ra Ra skirts in primary school and playing cats cradle with elastics, around hands and feet!

That roll on lip gloss in secondary school was grim, I remember it was in a clear glass bottle with a red lid and tasted of strawberry? Insette was in a white and blue can and we used tonnes of the stuff.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 14/02/2011 11:18

Limara, I was Duchess and went to eyeballs on my own. FFS, I was burning about 15 candles and my 12 was London. silly mare I was.

LtEveDallas · 14/02/2011 11:19

Breaker Breaker 1-4

Whats your Twenty Diamond Edge?

(I'm originally Tuffley/Whaddon but moved away years ago)

I've just realised you could well have known / spoken to my brother. He was 'Shooter'

Thinking about it - didnt we used to say eyeball for a RV?

"On the side, on the side"
"On the side come alive, whats your handle?"
"You've got Little Devil at Shooters 20"
"Woah little sis - watch mouths Breakers, we've got an ankle biter here"

(God that all came flooding back)

LtEveDallas · 14/02/2011 11:21

Oh God "burning 15 candles" LOL LOL LOL forgotten that!

MooMooFarm · 14/02/2011 11:23

'dingles' - ie short hair with one (little) long 'tail' at the back in the middle. You could plait it if you wanted to be uber-cool.

Whatnamechange · 14/02/2011 11:24

I remember jelly shoes too! And the garbage pail kids I also went through the bros stage I had a jumper with the three of them on and after a energetic game of hide and seek split my chin open and ruined the jumper I was more upset about the jumper than the huge wound on my chin .
We also had one sock up and one down timmy mallet style.

Did anyone have jelly bags?

And remember smelly pens?

spooktrain · 14/02/2011 11:36

in the north of scotland we had lots of self harming trends, like rubbing the skin off the back of your hand using an eraser.

the one everyone talked about was removing a small patch of skin from the centre of your forehead (not sure of the method though) and then somehow sticking a strand of hair on the wound and getting the skin to grow back over it. I don't think I ever witnessed a real live example of this though; it may have been a 1980s north of scotland urban legend

disclaimer: maybe we were a bit weird though

BaggedandTagged · 14/02/2011 11:40

spooktrain

not that weird

We used to give one another Chinese Burns in lessons and try not to scream. Another one was a card game called "raps" where if you lost you got hit over the knuckles with a pack of cards

On another forum there was a mum who was going to take her child to the "self harm therapist" for this.....until about 30 people came on and said "yeah, I used to do that as well"

AngryGnome · 14/02/2011 11:41

Oh god, smelly pens were brilliant! And smelly erasers too....

Secondary school definitely all about heather shimmer lipstick, body shop white musk "perfume", games of slam (card game)during break and lunch, rolled down socks in the early years, replaced by doc martens as we got older.

There was also a curious compulsion to write band names/lyrics etc all over school bag, school books, and pencil case.

I don't know if anyone else used to do this, but we used to spend HOURS drawing relationship webs of who was friends with who, who had got off with who (why don't people say "got off with" anymore!!), and who was feuding with who. This being a hormone driven teenage girl exercise, the webs would have to be redrawn on a daily basis (and possibly twice a day if there was a particularly traumatic lunchtime squabble!)
