Do you take people at face value on here?

You know some posters tend to enter a thread with "Well I'm a Doctor, Lawyer, Teacher, Head Teacher" or whatever...well do you give their post any more creedence because of it or do you just disregard it completely and read what they have to say as if they'd never mentioned it?

Bearing in mind any of us can be anything we claim to be?

Thanks in advance

I think people either exaggerate or lie about 30% of the time. Rough guess

DuelingFanjo · 07/01/2011 22:15

Are you really the Mutts Nuts? Grin

Thingumy · 07/01/2011 22:16

I am god.

lovemy2babies · 07/01/2011 22:16

Erm no.
I go on how much sense their post makes and if it's a sensible response in relation to the thread.

Rl doctors, lawyers, teachers can talk shite too ya know...

giyadas · 07/01/2011 22:17

there are those who I suspect aren't what they make themselves out to be, naming no names Wink

tomhardyismydh · 07/01/2011 22:17

i tend to try to read between the lines.

however one poster I have read as geing a such "proffesion" more than once. but I dont belive they are. on the other hand I have read a psoter claiming to be such and such and have taken it on face value. it depends on how plausible thier post or advice is.

Honeydragon · 07/01/2011 22:18

I really am a dragon and I like honey, Wink

tomhardyismydh · 07/01/2011 22:20

and tom hardy really is my dh. Grin he is lush and i love him. xx

mutznutz · 07/01/2011 22:20

Why of course...I'm a pair of dog's bollocks tapping away at the keyboard whilst he washes Grin

True enough I suppose after a while of posting you get to 'know' people and get a feel of if what they say is true...as long as people stop changing their damn names! Lol

readywithwellies · 07/01/2011 22:21

I have to say, I deliberately don't give my background unless really necessary for a thread.

I own plenty of wellies though {grin]

lovemy2babies · 07/01/2011 22:21

giydas please do tell!

usualsuspect · 07/01/2011 22:23

People lie on the internet shocker

cantspel · 07/01/2011 22:23

anyone with one function brain cell should know that 99% of stuff posted on forums is a load of shiat. Thats why it has such appeal.

BTW i am a brain surgeon on my tea break. Just off to finish a lobotomy i started earlier. BRB

friedtoacrisp · 07/01/2011 22:23

Sheesh I'd sooner believe a single word George Osborne says than fall for online shit! Although I do have a nice mental image of a large pair of shiny testicles tap tapping at a keyboard!

Honeydragon · 07/01/2011 22:23

mutznutz

Thank you for the best mental image of the evening Grin

singingcat · 07/01/2011 22:24

There are a couple of well-known posters who are instantly noticeable and have a strong projection of themselves...that I don't wholly believe. Others I believe but I wonder about their motives iyswim

btbetty · 07/01/2011 22:25

I'm fairly new to mumsnet but did wonder if some of the posters were moderators posting to ty to 'spice' things up a bit by disagreeing with everyone :)

ninah · 07/01/2011 22:26

yeah I used judge flounce for legal advice Hmm

pagwatch · 07/01/2011 22:27

I have met loads and loads of doctors, lawyers, accountants etc.
They are perfectly capable of being as deeply stupid as anyone else. And a little bit more likely to have a better opinion of themselves than is really deserved.

penguin73 · 07/01/2011 22:27

If I thought everyone on here was like their posts in real life I would have given up on humanity and be living as a recluse on a Scottish island with just cats and birds for company by now.

usualsuspect · 07/01/2011 22:27

No moderators on MN

QueenGigantaurofMnet · 07/01/2011 22:27

i read the content of the post and take it for what it is, a post.

i don't assume something is gospel simply because it is posted by someone claiming to be a Dr/lawyer/vicar etc.

there are some situations where someones profession would offer some useful insight to a debate but again, i don't assume that everything they have said is the absolute correct answer. even within the same profession, colleagues will disagree on subjects.

tomhardyismydh · 07/01/2011 22:27

i dont get gabyloggan has anyone worked this guy out?

prob shouldnt name and shame but that poster gets me Hmm every time

mutznutz · 07/01/2011 22:27

Well I talk a load of bollocks so I figured I may as well type it too Grin

btbetty I have to say that sadly...the last forum I was a regular on used to have far more shite posted on it than here so I very much doubt that.

huddspur · 07/01/2011 22:28

It depends on how their advice is worded after they've made their declararation but I do tend to take peoples word. Maybe I'm too trusting
