You know some posters tend to enter a thread with "Well I'm a Doctor, Lawyer, Teacher, Head Teacher" or whatever...well do you give their post any more creedence because of it or do you just disregard it completely and read what they have to say as if they'd never mentioned it?

Bearing in mind any of us can be anything we claim to be?

Thanks in advance

lovemy2babies - I reckon I know who you mean...

InnocentRedhead · 07/01/2011 22:40

Quatrocentro - 67% of all statistics are made up - and i am now a statistician :)

MarniesMummy · 07/01/2011 22:40

Never, ever used LOL before (as I hate it).

But you are funny!!

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 07/01/2011 22:40

I assume it to be true unless I have reason to believe otherwise, but then in my mind there is no great hierarchy - I don't think that a social worker knows more about families or that a HV knows more about babies, IYSWIM? Legal advice can be handy on here but if it's important I'd always go to a RL professional. Same with medical.

FabbyChic · 07/01/2011 22:42

I once believed someone on the net, and I wasted three years of my life and ended up with severe depression and a breakdown. Still recovering and it's been over a year now. I just never beleived the depths to which someone would like. Lesson learned.

Unless you can see it, smell it, touch it, take what you hear with a pinch of salt.

All we are are opinions, faceless, bored peeps with nothing better to do.

FabbyChic · 07/01/2011 22:42

replace like with lie. sorry.

mutznutz · 07/01/2011 22:44

Oh me too Loopy

It's actually quite scary the amount of people who will seek medical avice on a chat forum...hence me wondering how many people truly believes someone if they say they're a DR.

The last forum I was a regular on had a reg poster who claimed to be a DR and people used to start threads for her asking proper medical advice Confused

am shredding weight mutznutz

Sassybeast · 07/01/2011 22:47

Absolutely face value. One of the biggest proven bullshitters/liars I've come across in forumsville is currently a fairly prolific poster around these here parts. I enjoy watching her continue her bullshit, knowing that 'someday' it will all blow up. because it always does Grin Unfortunately, when the worm does turn, a few innocent bystanders get caught in the cross fire Angry But she can't stay away from the internet, which says an awful lot about her real life...

usualsuspect · 07/01/2011 22:48

We are all responsible for ourselves on the internet though, same as in real life

mutznutz · 07/01/2011 22:50

Ahhh good luck with the shredding then Grin

I don't think it's as easy to keep up with the bullshitters here as it's one of the few forums where you're allowed to keep changing your name. Most other forums will give you the persons former names when you click on them.

singingcat · 07/01/2011 22:51

I would love to see everyone's name histories...
I think in a way the namechange allowance lets people get even more sucked in

AnyFucker · 07/01/2011 22:52

sassy...why don't you out that person ?

MarniesMummy · 07/01/2011 22:52

Wow!

I'm not very quick on the uptake, can someone message me to let me know who the bullshitters are. I do love to be amused.

Tom - your shredding is booze fuelled? You're double 'ard.

Keep thinking I should shred since I'm wobbly of tum but figure that it wouldn't take a genius to spot the bullshit when I say I'm strong willed exercse-y type!

AnyFucker · 07/01/2011 22:53

if I was so sure that someone was misrepresenting themselves, I would call them on it, tbh

Sassybeast · 07/01/2011 22:53

Usualsuspect - some bullshitters and liars are clever though and appear so plausible. I am an old cynic but I know how taken in people CAN be because they have no experience of the lies that can be told by someone who invests so much time in appearing plausible.

FabbyChic · 07/01/2011 22:54

On some forums you get two posters talking to each other and backing each other up, when in fact them two posters are one poster using another ID to big themselves up.

MarniesMummy · 07/01/2011 22:54

But that's the problem though isn't it, that you can't be so sureConfused.

MarniesMummy · 07/01/2011 22:56

Fabby - the scales have fallen from my eyes.

Who could be arsed with that palava?

swanandduck · 07/01/2011 22:56

Is there anything to stop one poster posting under several names??

tomhardyismydh · 07/01/2011 22:56

oh marnie, the shredding began before the booze tonight!! im ridding myself of the booze to see if indeed I keep it up.

which I will Grin

sre you making use of advanced seach per chance? a cunning mner if so.

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 07/01/2011 22:57

Yes Sassy, how do you know? And if you do know, why don't you say anything?

huddspur · 07/01/2011 22:57

No I think you can namechange and post on the same thread as often as possible.

singingcat · 07/01/2011 22:57

It doesn't really matter if they're bullshitting as long as no one is getting sucked in. Even then, you could claim that everyone needs to have their wits about them, so if you get that sucked in it's kinda your own fault...
