Depends on your arse (& other potentially dodgy bits).

Zondra · 09/12/2010 22:06

All depends on legs, how low the neckline is, what kind of hosiery & shoes, I think.

Look in the mirror. Do you look good in it?

Portofino · 09/12/2010 22:06
Envy
JingleBelleDameSansMerci · 09/12/2010 22:08

I would and I'm 45... Well, with very high heels anyway.

MsKalo · 09/12/2010 22:08

if you happy to wear it, wear it and fuck what anyone else thinks! its your body! x

Joolyjoolyjoo · 09/12/2010 22:09

Well, I'm 38 and I wouldn't have an issue with wearing a LBD. Not on the school run, though- that might look a bit odd Xmas Grin

Zondra · 09/12/2010 22:09

Tbh-I think it may be a bit too short? Sorry! We are basically talking a mini. Think just above the knee is more elegent.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 09/12/2010 22:10

I would - with a bit of stomach and bum control, but the rest of me isn't too bad for almost 42.

granted · 09/12/2010 22:11

Go for it, girl.

Why shouldn't you???

Are there "rules"?

Wear what you like, and if you look good in it, so much the better...

My figure is better now than it was when I was a teenager - frankly, I'd say it's a bit nippy at the moment for short skirts, but if you're going somewhere warm :) , then why not?

I think your dress sounds rather nice. More details please - colour, style etc. Choice of footwear?

Mowiol · 09/12/2010 22:15

Legs - the most important part. If they are good (and they are the last "bit" to deteriorate) then go for it. After all, if 40 is the new 30 etc. then why not? Mid thigh is hardly that bad ..... is it?
I'm a bit past it now but I had good legs once upon a time and I would still have gotten away with it at your age (over 10 years ago).
And velvet is so "plush" and gorgeous - keep everything else understated and you'll be fine!

ShanahansRevenge · 09/12/2010 22:15

I am 38 and wore a mid thigh dress recently...I wore it with black tights and heels....looked great!

It's fine!

ClaireDeLoon · 09/12/2010 22:17

Do it, hope you have a lovely time.

ShanahansRevenge · 09/12/2010 22:17

Mind you..make sure there are no toddlers with you who demand that you pick them up!

I had to do the "Bunny dip" about twenty times and that's not easy when the getting up bit involves carrying two stone of angry kid!

JamieLeeCurtis · 09/12/2010 22:18

I'm 41. I would wear mid-thigh but not tight, and with opaque tights. DH people say I have good legs

Joolyjoolyjoo · 09/12/2010 22:21

Yes, shanahan, I was just thinking that! I had a LBD last year, that I wore on Hogmanay when we had a couple of friends over. From the front it was lovely, but I hadn't realised it was split up the back, and had a complicated underskirt, which you needed to rearrange after loo visits- cue my dad and Dh sniggering madly at my exposed stocking tops when I bent down Blush Blush It was thereafter known as "the misbehaving dress" and never worn again

h20 · 09/12/2010 22:25

It is deep pink, scoop neck and back, sleeves to the elbow so not too much on show, but it is too short to wear hold ups with without exposing the lace if I do anything spontaneous! Was thinking with blck tights and stilettos, but maybe I should wear leggings instead under it to make it more casual/decent. It's a work Christmas party....

ShanahansRevenge · 09/12/2010 22:53

Jooly you actully wore STOCKINGS with it?

Shock I couldn't! Not with a short skirt!

h20....try getting some of those thinner leggings...more like footless tights...thicker than tights but not as thick as leggings...mind you, you will need to wear boots then.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 09/12/2010 23:12

Shanahan- yes, I know!! Blush I really didn't realise it was going to ride up at the back so much, and I knew I wasn't leaving the house, so thought I'd risk it (for DH's sake!) Lesson learned, and thankfully only in front of family/ close friends- never again!

ShanahansRevenge · 10/12/2010 07:31

We do a lot for our DH's sake! Grin

Callisto · 10/12/2010 08:06

Go for it. My 50 year old sil wore a very short tunic with black tights and heels on her birthday recently and looked fantastic.

beautyspot · 10/12/2010 08:17

It always come down to your figure. By the sounds of it it wouldn't be appropriate for anyone over UK size 12.

jacquiel · 10/12/2010 08:20

I would def wear it - sounds really nice! But as the rest have said, needs to be with understated everything else.

LisaD1 · 10/12/2010 08:22

I would wear it if I had the figure for it. Go for it if you have :-)
