Well, thoughts please?

OP posts:
pollywollyhadadollycalledmolly · 15/12/2010 19:00

Yes i ask everyone what age they are. How did you guess?

You are right, lots of teenagers do wear the latest fashions, and that can be just as unsighlty, seeing a builders bum on a 19 y/o is just as horrid as seeing it on a 39 y/o, same goes for flabby legs or cellulite thighs, or seeing your knickers when u bend over cos your skirt is so short!

I don't think there is a specific age as such, i think we should all use our common sense. Sorry, to clarify i will change any future age references from 40s to 39+ if that helps matters!!

And i never told any one what they shouldn't or shouldn't wear, i just gave my opinion.

Granted's world - just plain fucking weird

saintknickerless · 15/12/2010 19:25

take that lady - the fact is that 39 y/o celebrities do tend to look a lot better/younger than your average 39 y/o woman. Not because they are a different species but because they often have facial surgery/botox etc to look younger, expensive cosmetic treatments, nutritionists, stylists and the images you see of them will likely have been airbrushed beyond recognition.
The OP might be stunning and look 25 in which case she should be flaunting what she has but if she's 39 and looks older then, while she is free to wear what she likes, I don't think she would be looking her best in a short skirt and I'm not the only one. If you don't give a damn what others think then wear what you like but the OP was asking for opinions so I assume she does care what people might think.

Has Polly never seen a normal woman, who looks good for her age? I see woman all the time. different ages. Some wear tighter, or more revealing clothes that others. some have the most amazing hair. others take care of themselves, in a subtle way. some are just naturally beautiful and have the most amazing genes. And they may be clothed in a long coat from collar to floor, but you can still tell they are utterly beautiful. And they would look good in everything/anything, including a short skirt.
Haven't you ever seen someone dressed , most beautifully, tastefully ? isn't that why they say never short and clevage. one or the other, never both.
maybe polly doesn't know how to dress tastefully. but let us assure you, many of us do know how to.

saintknickerless · 15/12/2010 19:45

TBH there has to come an age when legs OR cleavage looks bad. Some of you may think that is 90. I think that 39 is pushing it for a lot of women.
I don't think people need to have flesh on show to look gorgeous. Something fitted can show off a good figure without looking too try-hard.
Some things should be left to the young and gorgeous and that to me means short skirts, bare midriff and hipster pants. Can't stand to see a lot of cleavage on any age in the daytime tbh.

pollywollyhadadollycalledmolly · 15/12/2010 19:53

Oblomov, do you want me to reply?

Oblomov · 15/12/2010 19:54

There is a mum in the playground. Has a 12 year old and a 6 yr old. Trouser suits. Beautuful stiletto boots or black expensive shoes. Dark brown hair. Nothing is skin tight. But its fitted. She has the most beautiful figure I think I have EVER seen. And nothing is on show.
When you see this. you admire how good some woman are at doing it. I saw her in a short skirt, once. she looks fab whatever she wears.
If OP had an ounch of her style knowledge, she wouldn't make such ridiculous comments.

Oblomov · 15/12/2010 19:55

Please do, OP.

notjustapotforsoup · 15/12/2010 19:55

This thread is hilarious.

OP, I hope you felt great in whatever you wore and had a fabulous time.

ifancyashandy · 15/12/2010 19:58

Been lurking and have read whole thread.

I, for one, do and shall continue to wear whatever I want whenever I want to.

I have more style now aged 41 than I ever had before. I have more confidence in my (probably fairly average) looks and in my life in general and that makes me more attractive than I was 20 years ago when I was a mass of insecurities and hated the way I looked.

And yes, I've got more money to spend on better haircuts, facials and better cut (very very short) clothes!

And I have cracking legs (so I'm told)

The day I stop dressing to please myself (and I adore clothes and spend waaaaaay too much on them!) is the day I check into the OAP home!

pollywollyhadadollycalledmolly · 15/12/2010 20:02

I kinda know if you were speaking to me or about me. 'Has Polly never seen a normal woman' 'maybe polly doesn't know how to dress tastefully'

I have seen platny of women that look good for their age, but does that mean just cos ur 45 but only look 41 u go about in a mini skirt?

And i do dress tastefully. Do you? I wear clothes appropriate to my age, body shape, weight, occassion etc etc that look good on me and get lots of comments as in 'your dress is lovely' not sniggers cos you can see my knickers!

The women you are describing sounds lovely, how old is she?

ifancyashandy · 15/12/2010 20:03

And love the 'Gloria' comment. Indeed - despite being told that I look a good 5 years younger that I am, I AM what 41 looks like!

amijee · 15/12/2010 20:18

I am your classic mutton dressed as lamb and very very proud of it! ( even though DH laughs at me)

I'm 45 and wear VERY short dresses, some are skin tight, backless tops, half shoulder tops, etc etc. Most of my clothes are from Mark One and Top shop and Jane Norman.

I've been told I look at least 10 years younger but I don't think that should make any difference to how you choose to dress.

It's all about whether it looks good - age has f* all to do with it.

ifancyashandy · 15/12/2010 20:21

Anyone watching Million Pound Drop right now? Stuff Janet's dress, I want Sophie Ellis Bextors frock. But shorter! Grin

Oblomov · 15/12/2010 20:22

sorry, I kept typing Op, when I meant Polly

Oblomov · 15/12/2010 20:26

I don't know how old playground mum is, but I would guess nearly 40.

It had died a quiet death, until you came on and posted again.

Look, i've made my point clearly enough which you will see if you have read through all the posts and quite frankly don't have time to entertain you any more. If you can't understand what i've been saying then tough shit.
