AIBU to think that some parents loose sight of what is acceptable behaviour?

Just been to Pizzahut for what should have been an afternoon treat but spoiled by other parents lack of control of their kids. My two DDs (3 and 6) are not perfect, but we have just been confronted in Pizzahut by one child, about 5 having a total meltdown, which happens I know we have all been there, BUT the parents let this meltdown go in in full volume for 40 minutes!!! I have ignored my child when a tantrum has been in full play, but not in a restaurant where other people (AND PARENTS) are trying to relax or at least eat in some kind of peace. Its not as if there was only one adult, but there was four of them, after 30 minutes the people at the next table just left!! Then to add insult to injury, the next table along with a 'toddler' got out their potty and put it under the table and put their daughter on it in full view of everyone!! I know that potty training can be difficult but Pizzahut have toilets and large ones big enough for someone to sit on a potty in. Quite honestly after this afternoon I can understand why people who have no children sometimes quite frankly look on some parents as some kind of alien species dragged up through the dark ages!! OK feel a bit better now I got that off my chest

I know, when I saw it coming out of the bag, I stupidly assumed they were taking it off to the loo....which i thought was a bit odd. but when they said to the girl, there you go and put it down I nearly passed out!! I was so stunned that I lost the power in my legs and couldn't go over and say in a polite manner 'excuse me but thats not on'. Actually I didn't want to make a scene with my dds there, if they hadn't been there I might have!! Though if they hadn't been there I wouldn't have either!!

The tantrum sounds bad enough but the potty is outrageous!! Surely a member of staff should have politely asked them to use the toilets instead.

We only ever use Pizza Hut when we are going to the cinema but I have never had an experience anything like as bad as the one you describe.

Not what i would call acceptable behaviour but not surprising given the venue.

To Be totally honest by that point I just wanted to get out of there. My 3 year old was pointing at the girl under the table and asking what she was doing and I didn't want to give her any ideas, even though we are way past that point, you never know with 3 year olds!!!

YANBU and what you witnessed unfortunately has nothing whatsoever to do with Pizza Hut being a "lowbrow gaff".

People who are totally self absorbed and have no manners, sense of propriety and thought or consideration for other people can be found everywhere and in all walks of life.

The child being allowed by its parents to shit under the table is utterly vile and most definitely a health hazzard and should have been reported.

Danceinthedark, its all very well saying ofgs, but its not acceptable anywhere, its not a zoo and I don't expect people to behave like that anywhere. Not sue what was going to happen to the contents, doesn't bear thinking about!

A restaurant is any premises in which food is prepared for the public to consume in situ or take away. A child (or dog, or any other creature) defecating in it is at best complete lack of respect for the customers and workers, and at worst a health hazard as pointed out. So, danceinthedark, I am surprised you are not surprised.

When I worked in catering, pre DC's someone let a little boy have a wee in a plastic bag. They were right in the middle of the restaurant too. A potty is a bit of an improvement in this case but no YANBU and I agree that it's because of parents like this people have no time for children.

If you are going to criticise other people like this, then you should probably check your grammar

They no doubt would throw a fit if I took my German Shepherd into their scummy "restaurant"... yet he would be as quiet as a lamb, sit without moving until I told him he was allowed to and then move where and when I said AND he wouldn't shit under the table.

I know which I'd prefer!

The potty - grim!

We go to a gymnastics centre where there is seating upstairs. I was sitting having a coffee last week (in their small cafe) and a woman came walking downstairs with a full potty, waltzes through the cafe seating area to the toilets. I was jaw on floor.

What would possess you to think that is OK?!
