Just been to Pizzahut for what should have been an afternoon treat but spoiled by other parents lack of control of their kids. My two DDs (3 and 6) are not perfect, but we have just been confronted in Pizzahut by one child, about 5 having a total meltdown, which happens I know we have all been there, BUT the parents let this meltdown go in in full volume for 40 minutes!!! I have ignored my child when a tantrum has been in full play, but not in a restaurant where other people (AND PARENTS) are trying to relax or at least eat in some kind of peace. Its not as if there was only one adult, but there was four of them, after 30 minutes the people at the next table just left!! Then to add insult to injury, the next table along with a 'toddler' got out their potty and put it under the table and put their daughter on it in full view of everyone!! I know that potty training can be difficult but Pizzahut have toilets and large ones big enough for someone to sit on a potty in. Quite honestly after this afternoon I can understand why people who have no children sometimes quite frankly look on some parents as some kind of alien species dragged up through the dark ages!! OK feel a bit better now I got that off my chest Smile

oh transposed 'i' and 'a' - shoot me for being a bad typist.

hairytriangle · 06/11/2010 18:50

I didn't say people with bad grammar shouldn't have an opinion.

I said that there are lots of things that annoy people. Noisy kids irritate some people, peeing in public irritates others, bad grammar annyos others.

That's life.

What, we propose now that no parent goes out in public in case their child kicks off?

The child might have had a sensory or learning disability for all we know.

hairytriangle · 06/11/2010 18:51

annoys (typo).

hairytriangle · 06/11/2010 18:51

oh, ok then.

Simple answer: YABVU.

agedknees · 06/11/2010 18:51

A toddler peeing in a potty in a restaurant where toilets are available is, of course, not disgusting behaviour on the toddlers part.

However, a parent allowing a toddler to urinate under a dinner table in a restaurant is lazy and disgusting behaviour.

FreudianSlimmery · 06/11/2010 18:52

Hmm the potty thing is icky in a restaurant but with the tantrum thing YABU maybe - hard to tell without having been there.

When my DD has had the occasional meltdown I have NOT given in - I refuse to teach her that screaming gets her what she wants. In a shop, I just pick her up and take her straight outside after a warning, but you can't do that while halfway through a meal! Having said that my DD hasn't ever done worse than screaming, I may think differently if she was hitting or damaging things.

hairytriangle · 06/11/2010 18:53

disagree completely agedknees it's just snobbishness and conditioning. It's not harmful in any sense of the word to pee in a container in public.

FranSanDisco · 06/11/2010 18:54

Where has anyone said children aren't allowed out in public? Talk about exagerating the issue.

hairytriangle · 06/11/2010 18:57

cough splutter - I'm exaggerating?

no-one has said children aren't allowed out in public, but I just don't see why the OP was so judgemental.

She has no idea whatsoever what the issues were - there could have been any number of issues.. Parents can't always control their kids.

And believe me, I often get irritated by noisy tantrummy children in public who's parents do nothing about it ... but I have to suck it up just like everyone else, because that's life.

agedknees · 06/11/2010 18:58

Whilst eating? I disagree. So do you not bother to go to the toilet in your house hairy? Just sit in the middle of your lounge/dining room and use a container?

LynetteScavo · 06/11/2010 18:59

YANBU.

The toddler tantrum is annoying, but getting a potty out in the middle of the resturant?

I've never heard of such a thing before! Shock

Although the last time I went to Pizzahut they offered unlimited drinks to my kids, and I seemed to spend the whole time taking one or other to the loo. Maybe the parents knew this would happen, and came prepared. Hmm

FranSanDisco · 06/11/2010 19:00

You mean 'whose' surely? Wink

hairytriangle · 06/11/2010 19:00

ah come on. a bit of toddler wee in a potty is hardly a problem.

What would be the problem if I peed in a bucket in my own house? No-one else's business, and not unhygeinic if disposed of afterwards.

If it was dangerous there would be no such thing as comodes.

LynetteScavo · 06/11/2010 19:01

caspered, did you manage to gather what the tantrum was about? [nosey]

mimps · 06/11/2010 19:01

hey, how do does the OP know that 40 mins wasn't a 'good' tantrum?

YABU, perhaps the child in question usually lasted over an hour? i know my 'angel' can drag one on for an hour or more...especially if there is an audience of tutting on-lookers Hmm

[playing devils advocaat Wink smiley]

FranSanDisco · 06/11/2010 19:01

I eat my dinner sitting on a comode - in one end and out the other. It's really convenient because I don't miss any of the telly.

HairyTriangle !!! Shock

You're advocating pissing in a busy restaurant Shock Shock

You dirty pig !!!!! Shock Shock Shock

BootyMum · 06/11/2010 19:08

Loving your style FranSanDisco Grin

LynetteScavo · 06/11/2010 19:08

And could the parents be sure their child was only going to wee, and not poo? Can you imagine carrying a potty through a resutuant? Oh the shame!

Many times have I picked up a 2 year old, dragging a 4 year old behind me to make a dash for the loo. But never did I feel the need to take a potty any where with me.

hairytriangle · 06/11/2010 19:09

apocalypseCheese how dare you name call me. That's foul.

If a toddler wees in a potty in a restaurant I honestly don't see it as a major issue.

It is not unhygeinic if it's then disposed of properly.

Get a grip.

BootyMum · 06/11/2010 19:09

Can't believe you're serious Hairytriangle...

hairytriangle · 06/11/2010 19:10

By the way, I am not advocting it. I'm saying what's the big frigging deal!

Jenski · 06/11/2010 19:10

Hey OP - I think you have found the other parent in PH today, judging from Hairys' posts. Wink

Jenski · 06/11/2010 19:12

I'm sure worse happens in the kitchens of most resaurants though [hmmm] Is PH a restaurant?
