to be disappointed in some posters' nicknames?

CricketThicket · 20/08/2010 20:22

There seems to be many nicknames in the style of:

samntomsmumma

mamato2girlies

masonsmummy.

Are people really happy to define themselves like this?

Where is their strong, independent self-image?

There are so many witty, clever or unfathomable names on here - couldn't these posters have taken the lead from them and picked something less needy?

I know this is a parenting website, but I was drawn into here by an image of strong, independent, intelligent posters and I really feel some are letting the side down. It's not some HunnyForum you know.

FFS.

YABVU

What is more important than being a mother?

SilveryMoon · 20/08/2010 20:24

lol niceshoes, op i think you are picking 'oles. or bored, or both.

teameric · 20/08/2010 20:27

Grin "sport lovin minge"

sterrryerryoh · 20/08/2010 20:27

Everyone on here so far has got a good name, though?

Superfly · 20/08/2010 20:28

I agree to an extent. Mine was made up because of a song I was singing at the time - no deep and meaningful agenda there - but I do find the 'mummy' ones a tiny bit twee

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 20/08/2010 20:28

are you the Name Police? I think people start with a nice inoffensive name then get braver/want to stand out.

MassiveBumperlicious · 20/08/2010 20:28

A bit harsh. My usual name, Bumperlicious, was from when I joined during my first pregnancy when I truly couldn't see beyond being pg (plus had no idea how much MN would suck me in Grin). When people join here they are usually thinking about parenting issues. At least they are picking names that mean something to them.

We can't all be witty and uber intelligent. Plus for some people being a mother is their main role in life. Nothing wrong with that, it may not always be the case.

Morloth · 20/08/2010 20:28

LOL I thought this was going to be another complaint about AnyFucker.

sanielle · 20/08/2010 20:29

Can we have A vote for best name?

Quite like piratecat.

Ineedsomesleep · 20/08/2010 20:29

Grin Niceshoes. What shoes are you wearing btw?

CricketThicket · 20/08/2010 20:29

I'm not saying that being a mother isn't important Hmm, it's just that I think it's a bit hunny-ish to want to be defined like that on a forum like this. There are plenty of twee lickle websites to go on to be all wimpish on.

Erm, NiceShoes, you're not that far off. Wink

Lynli · 20/08/2010 20:31

Why is it called Mumsnet not strong independent intelligent posters net?

toccatanfudge · 20/08/2010 20:31

Morloth - so I did I Grin

quite disappointed that it's really rather boring

CricketThicket · 20/08/2010 20:31

What's picking 'oles piratecat?

OP posts:
llareggub · 20/08/2010 20:31

I lurk on a gossip board where there are no nicknames and everyone posts as "anonymous" and refers to their post number instead of a nickname. It is very liberating.

kittywise · 20/08/2010 20:31

What's a forum like this mean? This forum isn't hunnyish no but it's got all sorts on it. If people give themselves names you would consider boring because they're hunnyish then they'll soon bog of to another forum anyway.
