to be disappointed in some posters' nicknames?

There seems to be many nicknames in the style of:

samntomsmumma

mamato2girlies

masonsmummy.

Are people really happy to define themselves like this?

Where is their strong, independent self-image?

There are so many witty, clever or unfathomable names on here - couldn't these posters have taken the lead from them and picked something less needy?

I know this is a parenting website, but I was drawn into here by an image of strong, independent, intelligent posters and I really feel some are letting the side down. It's not some HunnyForum you know.

i like the spoonerism names and the swearie ones

sunfunandmum · 20/08/2010 20:41

ok, I have a 'mum' in my name. I don't really think it's good, and would like a better one, but am just crap at thinking up good names. I did try for ages, honestly.

CricketThicket, please think of a good one for me and I promise I will use it.

franke · 20/08/2010 20:41

Ha ha my first mn name was hunny. I had no idea. Obv I saw the light and I have a much stronger, independenter name now.

Tee2072 · 20/08/2010 20:42

SecretNutellaFix I'm old, but I'm not that old. Wink

mumbar · 20/08/2010 20:42

well I don't think theres anything wrong with 'mum' in the nickname Grin

Mines simply made up of the word mum and then ended in 'bar' as in place to prop myself up!!

I don't want my ds name or any other info on here as I want to be anonymous but some are quite happy to be 'outed' as they only post in certain threads.

Think it does help to just be a nickname in AIBU thread Wink

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 20/08/2010 20:42

well, thanks Smile openly loving bubbly is good too!

Giddyup · 20/08/2010 20:43

My posting name is shit, but its hard to think on the spot and all the good ones are gone. I have since thought of some corkers, but have not been here long enough to understand how name changing works.

If I change to something witty and fabulous will I then look like a brand new poster and get called a troll left right and centre if I post stuff that others don't like or ask for advice on tricky subjects? (I am just starting to grow MN balls....)

thisisyesterday · 20/08/2010 20:43

quite frankly, if you define yourself by a nickname on an internet forum you're no better than the people you're picking on

maybe it was the first thing that came into their head, maybe they don't care, maybe parenting and their children IS what defines them?

does it really matter??

mumbar · 20/08/2010 20:43

tee the year you turn 100 Grin

KEAWYED · 20/08/2010 20:46

YABU Mine used to be childrens names then mum and when I had my 3rd it would have been to long.

Like thisisyeaterday says it doesn't really matter.

BusyMissIzzy · 20/08/2010 20:46

I like names that allude to TV shows and films I like (such as EricNorthmansMistress, JaxTellersOldLady and JarethTheGoblinKing), clever ones (like toccatanfudge and EleanorHandbasket) , and the spoonerisms (Flisspaps and CaininthePunt).

thisisyesterday · 20/08/2010 20:47

Jareth, technically fora IS the plural of forum

not many people use it though

scottishmummy · 20/08/2010 20:47

my mn name self explanatory.mum and scottish

LackOfRam · 20/08/2010 20:47

Hello OP does my newname suit you?

Twirls and swishes to try it out.

Although I am worried it may be too subtle. Wink

But nobody will know who I am now. Sad

Mine is just plain common sense (although it could do with an apostrophe please HQ)

Trevormcdonaldshairyscrotum · 20/08/2010 20:50

I like my new name preeeeen

Hassled · 20/08/2010 20:50

My nickname is shite and I hate it - I didn't quite realise what I was creating when I first posted - I never thought I'd still be here years later. But the thought of scrapping it and starting again is more than I can be bothered with - I don't post enough to be the sort of namechanger who's recognised, IWSWIM. So Hassled it is, and Hassled it shall stay.

KEAWYED · 20/08/2010 20:50

Mine means Cow Head, A local fable, really should change it to something more complimentary

toccatanfudge · 20/08/2010 20:51

oo busy - I have to say I didn't
ake my name up - it was initially ToccataAndFudge - but I flounced and ended up back as this one.......but I have to name change.........

chaostrulyreigns · 20/08/2010 20:52

I recognise you Hassled and it's a name very evocative of my life - does it suit your life?

AnnieBeansMum · 20/08/2010 20:52

Why the hell does it matter?? I am AnnieBeansMum - does that mean I am "hunny" or unintelligent?? No it bloody well doesn't. It simply means that, whilst I don't define myself by my status as a mum, it is an aspect of my life that makes me incredibly proud. So I am more than happy to include my daughter's nickname in my MN name. If you don't like it, then don't read my posts or those of others who choose to celebrate being a mum.

And for what it's worth, I am a strong, independent woman - definitely not needy. I hardly think a simple think like a forumn nickname is capable of defining me. Perhaps before you make such sweeping generalizations about the MN population, you should first get to know the posters in question.

Off you fuck now.... Biscuit

anyabanya · 20/08/2010 20:53

Hey Toccata, why did you flounce? [curious emoticon].

I flounced too but cannot remember why....

alexpolismum · 20/08/2010 20:54

Does it really matter?

I have mum in my nickname. So what? The rest refers to the place where I live. It might not be very exciting for you, but it suits me.

And, like Hassled, I really can't be bothered to change it. If it aint broke, why fix it?

Trevormcdonaldshairyscrotum · 20/08/2010 20:54

Nice anniebean!
