to be disappointed in some posters' nicknames?

There seems to be many nicknames in the style of:

samntomsmumma

mamato2girlies

masonsmummy.

Are people really happy to define themselves like this?

Where is their strong, independent self-image?

There are so many witty, clever or unfathomable names on here - couldn't these posters have taken the lead from them and picked something less needy?

I know this is a parenting website, but I was drawn into here by an image of strong, independent, intelligent posters and I really feel some are letting the side down. It's not some HunnyForum you know.

DirtyMartini · 20/08/2010 21:06

what happened with the cunt names? Are no cunt names ever allowed again? I sideswiped that one, have only vague recollection.

SleepyCaz · 20/08/2010 21:07

Wow. Argumentative post. I disagree that these women are wrong by 'defining themselves as someone's Mummy'. It is after all life and death just an internet forum. But, if they do feel that, being a Mama to two girls, or Muumy to Mason, or Sam and Toms Mumma, does define who they are, and what they are, and how they feel, then surely that is quite beautiful, and, deep down, I think we all feel like that a little/lot of the time.
There are too many people in the world who mistreat/neglect and harm their children, that, IMO there's surely no such thing as being TOO devoted to the life of being a Mum.

And as for letting the side down by not being strong, independant and intelligent? How dare you assume that because someones MN nickname is a little bit twee, that they are un-intelligent and pathetic. That's very rude, arrogant and judgey.

FUCKING MASSIVE BISCUIT.

BootyMum · 20/08/2010 21:07

I also have Mum in my MN nickname... Named myself predominantly for my DS's nickname and being proud that I am his Mum.
But also feel that the Booty makes me sound as if I may be a bit of a wild child out on the lash waggling me 'booty' on the dancefloor... the alternate me in an earlier life rather than the tired harrassed middle-aged mother I have become...Wink

KEAWYED · 20/08/2010 21:07

MrsChemist Yes it is.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 20/08/2010 21:07

yes scottishmummy hunni xx mwah xx

DirtyMartini · 20/08/2010 21:08

ABF: it plays on the expression "going to hell in a handbasket".

Which I love, because it's the kind of thing my grandpa used to say.

BelligerentGhoul · 20/08/2010 21:08

I would rather be a hunny than a 'strong independent woman' tbh - I always think that phrase sounds like something from the back of a soft rock album by somebody like Bonny Tyler or Stevie Nicks - shudder.

Wouldn't mind this thread if the OP had a good name but it isn't 'witty, clever or unfathomable' at all.

BusyMissIzzy · 20/08/2010 21:08

teameric Grin I has assumed that was the Eric in question. You have very good taste in DHs.

bronze · 20/08/2010 21:08

woah sorry slow connection
pretty obvious who I'm referring to though

MrsChemist · 20/08/2010 21:08

DH goes on about that fable more often than he should, but it always makes me smile.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 20/08/2010 21:09

ABF - you'll be going to Eleanor Handbasket if you can't work that one out.

Malificence · 20/08/2010 21:09

If our nicknames should define us, I really ought to be called LubeQueen. Grin

herladyship · 20/08/2010 21:09

well as my nickname clearly indicates.. i am very well educated, rich and live in a HUGE country house Grin Wink

so glad i didn't choose a name with 'mummy' in the title, or i may have been outed as (shock, horror) a MOTHER Shock

MaMoTTT · 20/08/2010 21:10

KEAWYED · 20/08/2010 21:11

Haha MrsChemist. Its an odd tale and quite a pointless fable really. We are also called Howfeners but thought a cow head would be mildly better!!!!
