to be disappointed in some posters' nicknames?

There seems to be many nicknames in the style of:

samntomsmumma

mamato2girlies

masonsmummy.

Are people really happy to define themselves like this?

Where is their strong, independent self-image?

There are so many witty, clever or unfathomable names on here - couldn't these posters have taken the lead from them and picked something less needy?

I know this is a parenting website, but I was drawn into here by an image of strong, independent, intelligent posters and I really feel some are letting the side down. It's not some HunnyForum you know.

So did I, morloth!

Honestly, who gives a flying what someone calls themselves on here? Are we nothing but our posting names? If you cut us, do we not bleed?

By the way, my niece gave me my posting name when she was learning to talk. She couldn't say Aunty, so it came out Tee and I've been Tee in real life and all over the 'net ever since.

The meaning of 2072 is top secret. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

teameric · 20/08/2010 20:32

I like Terrywoganscock now that is a nickname!

IMoveTheStars · 20/08/2010 20:33

[wonders what CricketThicket means]

sloanypony · 20/08/2010 20:33

I liked "mymooncuprunnethover" but I think she changed it due to public pressure and cries of Boak!

Name thyself mooncup!

SecretNutellaFix · 20/08/2010 20:33

totally anonymous fora are a myth. nothing can be totally anonymous, surely? Bit depressing too, I think.

StealthPolarBear · 20/08/2010 20:33

We're on a parenting forum - why shouldn't people define themselves by their children if they choose to?
Now the posters with chickens in their names - that's just weird Wink

diddl · 20/08/2010 20:33

It´s just a name on a forum-not necessarily "defining" a person at all.

Dinkytinky · 20/08/2010 20:34

Yeah I thought it was about fanjo or anyfucker too, ahh balls I would have loved to have witnessed that...

semicolon · 20/08/2010 20:34

Ha ha

In the top 10 of my favourite ops' this year. Love it.

SecretNutellaFix · 20/08/2010 20:34

Tee, is that the age you were(20) in 1972?GrinWink

ethelina · 20/08/2010 20:34

Does it matter? As long as they like it I don't see the problem. Pretty sure no-ones arm was twisted. Biscuit

IMoveTheStars · 20/08/2010 20:35

Hahaa, fora isn't the plural of forum Grin

Biscuit

I really don't know where to begin.

BecauseImWorthIt · 20/08/2010 20:35

YABU

I don't think anyone defines themselves by their nickname.

And there are some fab, intelligent and witty posters here who use 'mum' in some way or other in their nickname, such as Lulumama or MamaG, to name just two.

toccatanfudge · 20/08/2010 20:36

I need a new name.....I'm thinking of somthing like MoTTT (where the M is Mother/mummy/whatever) Wink

BusyMissIzzy · 20/08/2010 20:36

Meh. Thinking up awesomely funny/thought-provoking nicknames is quite difficult, especially on the spot. Inspiration may strike later on, but I find when I'm trying to think of something like that, I never can (as evidenced by my not-particluarly-clever name; having said that, my name is not Izzy, actually. Confused now, aren't you?).

Yes, it's not particularly inventive, and maybe people should be defining themselves by something that reflects them, not just the fact that they have offspring, but... again, meh. It doesn't bother me, personally. This is MusNet after all, a lot of us are defining ourselves as Mums just by being here. Sort of Confused

invisibleink · 20/08/2010 20:37

Can I just ask Fanjo a question while we are talking about nicknames - Is your name like 'thank you for the memories' iykwim? Blush

OP - Meh. Why does it bother you how someone who is not you defines themselves?

BusyMissIzzy · 20/08/2010 20:37

It's not MusNet Blush, it's MumsNet, obv.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 20/08/2010 20:38

thanks dinky tinky! Angry Actually, I thought it was about me too! Grin

Fizzywinelover · 20/08/2010 20:38

Well, I am not inventive. My previous MN nickname, I named myself after the dog. The current Mn nickname.... no, cannot imagine WHY I named myself this one.....

sloanypony · 20/08/2010 20:38

I like "NarkyPuffin" and "BunnySoprano" too because they sound cute.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 20/08/2010 20:39

yes it is,invisibleink Smile

toccatanfudge · 20/08/2010 20:40

" maybe people should be defining themselves by something that reflects them,"

well I am a mother so if I chose a name with mum in the name then it would be reflecting me - a huge part of me - especially right now.

Fizzywinelover · 20/08/2010 20:40

The MN nicknames I loved the most include EleanorHandBasket and Fanjofor the Mammaries. They make me laugh. :) But I aint as original as all that, me.

SalFresco · 20/08/2010 20:41

I am Envy of sixtyfootdoll.
