Happy to go first with Navy on a little boy. Not sure if they were going with the colour or a nautical theme but it kind of suits him actually. Also a little girl called Nala from the Lion King. My own legal name is a absolute clanger before anyone comes for me with the ‘sneery thread’ accusations 😂

Is Gooey not an urban myth??... I swear I've heard that one before!

Well she swore it was true but maybe she was having me on.

I guess the story must have originated from
somewhere!

An unbelievably brilliant and pioneering oncologist I know has a son called Cosmo. Never heard it before and never heard it since, I thought it was cool 😎

Does Bunnie-Blue have a sister called Lolly Phillips?

Feejoah · 31/08/2026 00:43

I know a couple who made up names for their 3 kids. I won't list them all as very identifying, but one son is called Jeliah. That is the most "normal" name. All 3 kids go by normal-sounding nicknames semi-related to their names.

2025MUM2025 · 31/08/2026 00:45

Brothers called Dignity and Gift

Pieceofpurplesky · 31/08/2026 00:53

I've taught a Misty, Narissa, Rusty, Bluebell, Clover, Meadow, Blessing, Patience, Marvelous ... all of them fabulous names that suit the kids so well.
Not unique but different from Isla, Olivia and Isobel!

Chattanoogachoo · 31/08/2026 00:57

Zarach as a male Christian name, I've only heard it before as a surname.

I have met more than one of each of those names.

Recently I did my family tree and on the English side, b1700, found a Briscoe. Love it.

Have only met one Candida, but 60 years ago when I was about 6, I thought it was such a lovely name. I was going to call my dd Candida - until I found out.

I was at school with a Candida, who would be 66yo now. She was generally known as Candy, but some teachers used her full name. In retrospect, you'd have thought they would have known better!

I was at university with a girl named Frisbee.

Pssedoffathis · 31/08/2026 01:27

my child’s primary class has a the most crazy array of girls names. I can’t mention them here but to give you a flavour it’s like, Millicent, Sephira, Jalula, Apples, Evanderine, Chickaline, Maloolia, Drapanoby, ebonyla, rubellia, castanettes … those aren’t the names but they aren’t far off 🤣 I actually love the boldness of it and how they all ended up in the same class I will never know. When I was at school everyone was either called Sarah or Jenny.

SilveryBear · 31/08/2026 01:39

Chardonnay

Smallbrowndog · 31/08/2026 01:46

There was a Spike in my DS's primary school class.

I never understood how she looked at her tiny new baby and thought Spike - I think it's a Jack Russell's name

I had a midwife called Patience and she was so kind and Patient, I do think names can predetermine character a bit.

I can't really understand why, when people choose job-names for kids, they are generally manual labour type jobs like Carter or Mason or at best Tailor. It's never Accountant or Engineer or Violinist.

This is my daughter Vi, short for Violinist - why not?! Sister, Engie

Edited

Hmm
not sure about the names determining personality. I once had to dismiss a man called Innocent for stealing from clients. And my niece Grace is one of the most clumsy (but still Charming ) people I’ve ever met.
