"In and of itself" means considering something on its own, based on its true nature, without looking at outside factors. 1, 2]

Core meaning: By itself or intrinsically.
Example: "The rule, in and of itself, is fair." This means the rule is fine on its own, even if it does not work well in every situation.

Words that try to make ordinary everyday activities sound fancier than they are:

"Sourced" instead of "bought"

"Curated" instead of "bought a few things and put them together"

"Upcycled" instead of "painted and changed the handles"

I also cringe at verbs which make everyday activities sound much more dramatic than they were:
"Flung open the windows" instead of just "opened the windows"

"Shoved it in the bin" instead of just "put it in the bin"

People who speak in these ways make me cringe myself inside out. I just think - calm the fuck down and accept your life is pretty ordinary.

"I'm based out of London" - used to mean the exact opposite, they're actually based in London.

Agree with "speaks to" - also means the exact opposite. You're speaking to me, you're speaking of (something probably very tedious)!

I hate “fast forward” when describing the passage of time in a story. I understand the meaning but it makes me wince.

Ive never heard "in and of itself" only in itself. I dont think "at this moment in time" just means now, it means this is the situation right now but it could change at any point.

I was in Tesco the other day and a woman picked up a vase with fake flowers in, and declared it “stunning!” with a sort of hand gesture.
I’m adding overuse of ‘stunning’ to the list.

Also when people selling clothes say they ‘just don’t reach for it anymore’. Annoying!
