I’m watching A Place In The Sun

On C4 right now.

I have this on most days cos I love seeing all the apartments. One thing is bugging me though. The apartments that have swimming pools whether private or shared with several other properties NEVER EVER have a single soul using them. It’s always a picture perfect view of a pristine pool, nobody laid on a sun lounger, no noisy kids splashing about, nothing!
I’m assuming that the camera crew must chase everyone using the pool area out of the way so they can get the perfect picture postcard shot.

I do realise there are bigger problems going on the world 🙈 but it’s just a little peeve!

Yes and it's always really quiet when they go there - there's never any noise from the street or crowds of people on the beach. God knows how they manage it!

TourDeChance · 27/08/2026 15:54

Always notice that. I reckon they ask them, politely, to leave the pool, or avoid using the pool, while filming. If that's not the case, you've pretty much got the pool to yourself so it's a win win.

Deckchairsatdawn · 27/08/2026 15:56

Filmed on sunny days out of season?

RowsOfFlowers · 27/08/2026 15:57

Now that you mention it, you’re so right. I just watched it too. That last property was very nice tho!

Filmed on sunny days out of season?

Everywhere always looks deserted, so I've always assumed out of season, or very early in the morning. But never mind the apartments, where on earth do they find the identikit couples? They're always lumbering along the beach holding hands, her in some unwise frock, him in a tshirt and tragic shorts trading remarks like 'Ooh, good-size bedroom' and 'We love a bit of nightlife'. You could swap nearly any one of them out for any other of them without the viewer noticing.

Badbadbunny · 27/08/2026 16:06

The month of filming is shown at the end and often are out of season, sometimes even November through to February. Very few seem to be at the height of season of other busy times.

Screamingabdabz · 27/08/2026 16:24

I stopped watching it when I started to notice the frequency of repetitive phrases like “good sized bedroom” or “plenty of wardrobe space” - once you start that bingo card it drives you mad!

MrsMoastyToasty · 27/08/2026 16:24

Friends have a place in Spain. It's in a block where locals live rather than other expats, and you're not allowed to use the pool in the middle of the day so everyone can enjoy siesta time without disturbance.

arlequin · 27/08/2026 18:44

“I could just see myself here of an evening with a glass of wine” will be said at least once per episode

TheChosenTwo · 27/08/2026 18:47

Omg ds has got into this during the school holidays 😂
I’ve watched some episodes with him just to prove a point to him that they never buy the property and every one that I’ve seen they’ve never bought a property!
I just think they’re filmed out of season and like a pp mentioned with communal pools that they film during the siesta times.

financialcareerstuff · 27/08/2026 18:54

Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the right time to buy and when sales are happening fast- owners want the rentals they get through summer, then put it on the market before the next summer peak. Buyers want to buy enough in advance to get it kitted out the way they want and fully processed before the summer…. And it will be cheaper for the production to film at that time too- flights, accommodation, everything… it often looks pretty chilly! 😁 still I love it- you gotta dream!!

aliasfrog · 27/08/2026 18:57

The thing that gets me is when they want a south facing living room with huge windows. Might be ok in the uk but in Spain you'll boil to death with all that summer sun coming in all day!!!!! I'm convinced the developers sell all the south facing flats to the brits because of this.

You could do it as a drinking game. Take a shot every time someone says ‘good-sized double’ or ‘ sea views’. You’d be off your head about ten minutes in.

Candleabra · 27/08/2026 18:59

They film the outside bits first thing in the morning when everywhere is empty.

LorenaWood · 27/08/2026 19:02

We want a pool and a sea view

for fifty quid

Ilovemyfam · 27/08/2026 19:05

With a rooftop solarium. Where I live that part of the property is where we dry the clothes. I could not sit there in the daytime because it is too hot.

Then they want something traditional and don’t like it because it is too dark 🤦‍♀️

feellikeanalien · 27/08/2026 19:07

I just can't get over the ones who are relocating and they've never actually been to the place before.

It's my guilty pleasure but I prefer the ones looking in more rural areas. Some of the apartments are grim.

I wish they'd do more of the follow up ones or maybe not enough of them are successful!!

That is true, it made me laugh. The couples are almost always identical and interchangeable, they are all 'frock' wearing types.

I don't mind the quips about storage space because they are probably quite self conscious about being on camera, especially for the last property when they view it without the presenter.

They sometimes buy property, but ALWAYS go in with a 'cheeky' offer saying that they MUST do work to the property. Frequently the work is just painting the place or putting in new wardrobes and rarely justifies the huge reduction in the asking price. Sometimes I get the impression that they started looking many years ago and fail to realise that they have missed the boat for getting a bargain priced property as prices in Spain have increased so much in the last ten years.

I adore the programme.

We have stayed in places for a fortnight where nobody has been in the communal pool, as far as we know. We don’t tend to use them.

2026letsgo · 27/08/2026 19:39

Actually I’m surprised by how many do make an offer (cheeky ones obvs).

I’ve watched so many I am yelling at the TV that €150k would get them loads more in Torrevieja than at Villa Martin, of which there is at least one episode a week.

My favourite episode is the Florence one with an obnoxious American couple. They “adore” Florence, knew it well and were looking for an impossible property. Amazingly Jasmine found the EXACT perfect apartment they asked for at an amazing bargain price. And the twunts still put in a truly embarrassing low offer. Rightly refused. And when they grudgingly upped the offer the owner sold it to someone else. Hahaa. Teach the tight gifts. I am still sure it was one of the crew who recognised a fabulous opportunity when they saw it.

Uncontroversialusername · 27/08/2026 19:47

APITS is one of my guilty pleasure, I love a bit of property porn.

I assumed they film the pool bits either early in the morning or out of season.

I personally hate the term "solarium" it's a just a wanky name for a sun terrace and Google tells me a solarium is actually enclosed with glass like a conservatory or another name for a tanning salon.

"Amazing view" - of the tops of some mountains 10 miles away that you can just glimpse over the buildings in between.

DH and like to have a bet on whether the owner/agent of the million euro house will offer to show the presenter out, just in case they might take a souvenir.

And yes, the ones who've never been to the area, sometimes not even the country but have decided that's where they want to live. Escape to the Country is the same, some couple decides to move from London to West Wales or the Hebrides but have only ever seen it on the telly.

the80sweregreat · 27/08/2026 19:48

The ones I like they sneer at and the ones I don’t like they say it’s great ! I wonder where the people are who live in the other apartments too. They must give them some euros to disappear for a few hours.

Dragonflyspeeding · 27/08/2026 19:53

I don’t understand WHY they show us million euro properties with Italian marble floors located on a golf course. I stick on the kettle for this part.

If I had a million euro, I’d have an agent showing me properties. I certainly wouldn’t be watching APITS to find out what my dream property could be.

canuckup · 27/08/2026 19:57

It's rarely raining on Cheap Irish Homes either

My mum used to say this 😂
Even if they put an offer in you can gurantee there will be a voice over at the end of programme
After careful consideration Elaine and Pete decided not tob go go forward with the apartment in Alcudia
But it hasent put them off and they are still looking
She reckonrd they just fancied a freebie with all expenses paid
