I'll start:

travel trousers. - just put some jogging bottoms or leggings on for God sake and stop being a twat
Wills - Maybe nobody I know inherits any money, but wills seem to be a big deal on here

Trans people
Private schools

MyKindHiker · 26/08/2026 09:22

Trans issues. Literally has never ever come up in my actual life, in discussion. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a trans person outside soho, or if i have in the changing rooms they have passed so well I didn’t notice

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 26/08/2026 09:22

Trans rights

the80sweregreat · 26/08/2026 09:24

People just want some help with things and mumsnet is an anonymous place to ask others what they think.
I like that it’s so random at times. Why not ask about travel clothes ? Or what your opinion may be about politics ? One reason I love it.

This is a bit weird. The last time I saw travel trousers discussed on here it was on a thread about safaris where the OP had never been on one and could only bring 10 kg of luggage, but would be able to do overnight laundry so people suggested them as quickdrying, adaptable and covering in a way that jogging bottoms wouldn’t be.

Re wills — surely it’s not that difficult to grasp that other people and their families may have far more money, and/or that second families complicate inheritance? I mean, I’m not going to inherit anything and nor is DH, but we’re in the minority among our friends.

Vulturesoverhead · 26/08/2026 09:29

Money

the80sweregreat · 26/08/2026 09:29

I know loads of people who have inherited money in real life! One even told people how much it was and what the tax bill was too. Money is a subject best avoided on here though.

Danikm151 · 26/08/2026 09:29

School whatsapp groups.
None of the schools round here have them. Ditto to birthday party invitations!

That's because some of us are vulnerable and/or immunocompromised or spend time around people who are 🙄

SereneFinch · 26/08/2026 09:34

Trans rights.

Harry and Meghan.

No one in real life has the strong opinions that you read here - they are barely discussed.

Sweetbeansandmochi · 26/08/2026 09:36

Mumsnet provides a place to talk about the things we don’t talk about in real life - you have hit the nail on the head, like;

  • financial independence separate to a man.
  • pensions
  • The importance of making a will
  • Organising power of attorney before anyone is sick or infirm
  • The impact not getting married on financials if you split
  • The importance of a Babylis Big Hair before we got older and could afford a Dyson Air Wrap. (Huge things and small things sit side by side)

People tend not to speak about things which will ‘rock the boat’ or cause upset and so lots of things don’t get spoken about.

Mumsnet has provided a space to do just that.

My uncle died of it six months ago with no pre-existing health issues so yes, unfortunately it is still ‘very much a thing’.

Missey85 · 26/08/2026 09:40

The wills one always gets me all the moaning from people that think thier automatically entitled to people's money! Especially the ones moaning about people still alive there just waiting for them to die and get the money I'm glad I've got none to leave 😊

Trans- in the last month I have come across two people that I and others have accidentally misgendered in a volunteering capacity. Both have gently corrected us. I did hear one say completely unprovoked that they are scared about the number of anti trans groups out there and why can't they just use the bathroom they want in peace.
Both in their early to mid 20s I guess so like with most things it depends on the people you mix with.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 26/08/2026 09:44

Wedding/funeral attire. Particularly footware, who actually cares IRL?

Bayliss & Harding stuff.

Everyone going NC over anything.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 26/08/2026 09:49

OP - for the wills thing, it could be your age. I’m late 40s and sadly it’s the period of my life when suddenly lots of my friends (and me) are losing parents /PILs. In my 30s I only knew one women whose mum had died, and as her dad was going strong still there was no inheritance, but now suddenly meeting for drinks with friends includes chats about care homes for in laws and probate going slow for parents estates, last weekend I ended up in a chat about the issues caused from a poorly worded will and an elderly step-parent.

It’s also the time when suddenly friends are upgrading to a bigger house or fancy holidays and yes, that’s because their parents/PILs have sadly died and their share of a normal house is enough to give them a financial boost.

LagoLady · 26/08/2026 09:50

Not answering the door to uninvited guests…

in real life, my mum or MIL would knock on the window or ring me, or text “I’m outside”

Yeah, what's with being terrified of tradesmen using the toilet? Or generally being in the house? Weird.

hardshoulderr · 26/08/2026 09:59

@FancyBiscuitsLevel oh no, I'm definitely in the demographic!!
