Partner unhappy with my outfit choice for a warm barbecue

So im Currently at a bbq with friends, only a few i dont know.
Its really quite warm and sunny, what i would call beach weather. My DP has quesgioned my chice of clothing on this paricularly warm day which consists of denim mini skirt and a close fitting crop top, its alittle sheer with diamantee style lettering to the front.
In heat like this i would normally be in a bikini in the garden.
I think hes well out of order

Said that my denim skirt is "showing too much leg" and suggested my top is also showing too much and too tight. Strange he dosnt mind when we go out at night

Well obviously some outfits are more appropriate for nights out than casual BBQs. It’s rude to comment on what you are wearing but he may also have a point? Hard to say without seeing the outfit

Tbf I think a night out is a bit different to a Sunday afternoon bbq. Whilst I don't agree with your partner telling you what to wear, it does sound like a teenager outfit. Partners are allowed to have an opinion, but might have been more helpful before leaving the house. Bikini would presumably be in your own garden though without an audience or down the beach.

I wonder if he is trying to say it looks a little um, cheap . I don't know quite how to put it. He thinks it's a bit too revealing. Like you could leave a little more to the imagination. Who are you with and what age are they? If you're all under twenty maybe that's a normal look. It's difficult for us to know what sort of people you're with.

Looking around the youngest is around 24 and the oldest 36, i nearly know most people here, old friends, its not my bbq btw

Men are in shorts , shirt. Tee shirt, a couple have taken t shirts off as its hot.
