What is the hand signal the boys killed on A66 are making?

In the pictures that have been released, four out of five of them are making the same hand gesture. I feel very out of touch, but what is it?

The kind of morals that maybe wouldn't dump on grieving families? They have lost their children in a horrible accident. Two of them were 17 FGS. Four of them were passengers. It is tragedy for all the families of all seven. No doubt the families of the boys will have uncomfortable, conflicting emotions including anger towards the boys, but let's cut them slack before criticising them for grieving how they wish.

They do. On social media pictures they have their middle finger extended.

Ok, but I was talking about the ones released by the press.

It's not devil horns or spider man or love or friendship it's just a thing young men do in photos. It's gang sign adjacent but is more a style/fashion thing they do in imitation of rappers and musicians. It isn't sinister and it doesn't mean anything. It's just the way lots of young men pose for pictures. Anyone with a teenage boy who has Instagram will have seen photos like that loads of times.

They brought up children who think making tik tok videos of them speeding is funny. They’re organising balloon releases which cause serious harm to wild life. Their children killed two police officers. They should be mortified and ashamed of their horrid offspring.

Couldn't care less how old or young they were. Absolute scum. Just wish when they wipe themselves out they did not injure or kill innocent people

I thought it was a thing chavs/roadmen/dickheads do. Means nothing really, just showing they are "cool dudes".

Yes, I suppose I could guess something like that but what is it supposed to indicate is what I was wondering?

I am not ready to cut the families of the boys any slack. The stupidity of these boys killed innocent police officers. It’s deeply upsetting and I hope the focus is on the police officers and their legacies.

Just seems like a chav type pose to me.

Shaka is more relaxed and I’ve only seen in USA/Pacific culture.

Usually when I see photos of young men making these gestures on the usual mainstream media sites, the young men are either recently deceased or recently sentenced to a jail term.

It doesn't indicate anything other than these were poses they probably made in all their pictures. It's just a young man pose, just like young women often pose with hands over the mouth or V fingers or tongue out.

Lol, no it doesn't. Widespread amongst teen boys all over (in photos). Even in naice suburbs. Im not sure it has any meaning as such, not any more - maybe originally.

It symbolises the beginning and the end of the territory they are from - meant to be an M for Middlesbrough, a would be gangster sign! This has been adopted from the drill music they no doubt listen to (from DS)
