What is the hand signal the boys killed on A66 are making?

In the pictures that have been released, four out of five of them are making the same hand gesture. I feel very out of touch, but what is it?

Its what heavy metal bands used to do. Its called devil horns.
Except it looks like theyve not properly tucked the thumb.

It's often associated with heavy metal and rock culture but I'm old and it probably has another meaning now that I'm totally unaware of.
