Ive just been to see Nick Cave. It doesn't get much better. (Are there many things in life better than amazing live music?)

Whats your best gig/ concert?

seen hundreds of shows since 1975 but the absolute standout was Springsteen 1981. Manchester Apollo both nights. Everything you had heard/read about him was true. Astonishing to watch. Went to 2 more on that tour. Seen lots of other acts as well and on their night they can be great.

I am in awe. The Boss up close.

I am in awe. The Boss up close.

3rd row, centre stage both nights. it was genuinely astounding. He was 32 with all the energy of the world. Superstardom was still 4 years away but he has only got older the fire hasn't diminished

Green Day Manchester Apollo 1998. Proper punky grungy gig. Crowd surfing, moshing, sweaty craziness. Smashed up their kit at the end if I recall correctly!

Seen loads of gigs over the years but that one stands out.

The best gig I went to, better than Queen at Knebworth, I haven't mentioned because I was too young to appreciate it. And it just would be too big a boast.

What was it , someone else was bound to have gone and can give us their opinion

I havent seen Bob Dylan nor Neil Young. Would love to, just havent had money at the right time or place. Hoping I havent missed the chance to see Neil Young. Wonder if he will manage another tour.

So gutted Neil Young cancelled his tour, meant to have been seeing him in Cardiff.

Echointhedarkness · 01/08/2026 16:01

Whoever said Elbow = ear chocolate, that’s a brilliant analogy. 👏

MrsHaroldRobbins · 01/08/2026 16:41

The Cure at Hyde Park for their 40th anniversary - they played for three hours, just fabulous
Nick Cave at the O2 a year or so ago. Into My Arms at the end was just beautiful, moved me to tears
Nile Rodgers and Chic
Basement Jaxx
Harry Styles at Wembley
George Benson at The Royal Albert Hall

MrsHaroldRobbins · 01/08/2026 16:42

Oh and The Stone Roses at Wembley - reunion gig around 2016?

BearSoFair · 01/08/2026 16:46

Biffy Clyro at the O2 in 2013, can't even pin down exactly what made it so good they were just spectacular. Actually just saw them again last month which is probably also in my top 10 gigs!

Eaumyword · 01/08/2026 17:04

The Cure in 1987.
Elton John. As a pp said, he started and finished early - extra marks for that!😆
Primal Scream, Wonder Stuff, Happy Mondays all tying for 3rd place - with bonus points for fab support bands like Inspirals and Charlatans!
Stone Roses at Finsbury Park. Did NOT enjoy the bottles of wee being thrown though!

Tsunami Relief Cardiff, 2005

AutumnLover1990 · 01/08/2026 17:17

Prince 14 times, including an after party with him getting Amy Winehouse on stage.

PaddlerRock · 01/08/2026 17:31

I'll probably get blasted for my music taste but i've seen

Ja Rule and Ashanti
Eric Prydz
Swedish House Mafia
Usher
Gwen Stefani
Destiny's Child
Pink
Ocean Colour Scene (not my choice!)
George Michael
Christina Aguilera

If I had to pick, it would be George. Phenomenal. I would have loved to have seen him again but know I am lucky that I got to once.

Gazelda · 01/08/2026 18:05

I was at the Bon Jovi last ever Wembley concert too. Amazing.

Take That Circus (both).

Robbie Williams and Toploader when they supported him.

Basement Jaxx when they supported TT.

elton John on his last tour.

M People at Brixton Academy

i had tickets for Adele’s last night at Wembley but that was the tour she cancelled the last 2 shows.

Muse in Manchester.

I’d love to see Nile Rogers.

Bruce Springsteen Wembley Stadium 4th July 1985

Yep, Born in the USA tour. I went on the 3rd aswell. Even though I'm not normally a fan of stadium gigs.
Also, Queen at Ally Pally, think it was 1979, Crazy tour of London
The Clash at The Roxy Harlesden
Stiff Little Fingers at the The Rainbow 1979 or 1980.
Beautiful South and Barenaked Ladies who were supporting Wembley Arena sometime in the 90s.

TiggersTheOnlyOne · 01/08/2026 11:36

Bon Jovi August 2000. The last concert ever played at the old Wembley stadium. Phenomenal.

Cooper Alan Bristol 2026

Was that the one with Van Halen as support? If so, that was blinding.

MalewhoisLaffinalltheway · 01/08/2026 18:28

Digerydont · 01/08/2026 14:16

I saw Ian Dury and Dr Feelgood live in the 70s. Both brilliant then.

That would have been brilliant!
Saw the Blockheads with Wilko a few years ago, fantastic musicians.

ToneKing · 01/08/2026 18:30

Two more that stand out for me:

The Pogues (with Kirsty McColl) Bristol Sudio March 1988
It was a riot on the Fairytale of New York tour

Muse Newport Leisure Centre November 2001
On the origins of symmetry tour

AllTheGigs · 01/08/2026 18:40

Midnight Oil - Camden Roundhouse July 2022.

I have seen hundreds and hundreds of gigs. That was amazing.

Iron Maiden last year at the Waldbühne in Berlin.

John Mellencamp in Düsseldorf in the 90s. Support was a juggle.

Queen Bristol late 70s (maybe early 80s).

So so many

AllTheGigs · 01/08/2026 18:42

JustGiveMeReason · 01/08/2026 00:06

Bruce Springsteen back in the 80s. At a Football stadium.

A UB40 gig in a small theatre before they became internationally famous.

Meatloaf put on a good show too.

Nah. He dod an acoustic version of Born To Run. Dead to me 😂

CrowsInMyGarden · 01/08/2026 18:48

Love Nick Cave. I’m jealous! I love The Darkness live. My best gigs this year were Yungblud and The Damned. The band I never got to see but wished I had was Thin Lizzy.

RaraRachael · 01/08/2026 18:52

I saw Bruce Sprinateen in Wembley 1985 as well, then Murray field and Sunderland I'd always wanted to see him at an Arena, so at great expense got tickets for the Co-op last year.

Underwhelming.

AllTheGigs · 01/08/2026 18:54

Oh New Model Army in Dinslaken last summer.

Would love to have seen Lizzy as well...

True story - Phil Lynott sung Happy Birthday to my Mum with an acoustic guitar on a flight from Madrid to London.

She didn't have a clue who he was and when she told me she said it was "... a tall Irish guy with a big afro from a band called Spinning Dizzy, or something!" 😂

Would have been about 1981-82.
