Ive just been to see Nick Cave. It doesn't get much better. (Are there many things in life better than amazing live music?)

Whats your best gig/ concert?

The best gig I went to, better than Queen at Knebworth, I haven't mentioned because I was too young to appreciate it. And it just would be too big a boast.

He's still got the same energy. Saw him earlier this year at a very small venue in SW London. £25 which included the "best of" CD! Approx 2k people.

2000 people was probably a standard audience at gigs in 70’s…I saw Genesis (60p ticket!), Bowie, pink Floyd, yes, at Newcastle city hall.. about 2000 seats.
Saw ac/dc at Newcastle Mayfair..? Venue probably held much less that 1000…days when you could actually see the bands & not just watch the big screens at the sides of the stage!

Divine Comedy in a nightclub in Madrid 2 years ago, right at the front, tiny venue, amazing mood and atmosphere, lovely friends, lovely hug from Neil afterwards - perfection.

I’ve seen the band many times in various places but that was the best.

Spanish people LOVE to sing and knew all the lyrics (I’m half Spanish) and it was just such a fun, warm atmosphere.

Did you go to Madrid on a National Express coach… god I hope so!

Ah brilliant OP. I live near Brighton and quite a few people I know went to the gig. I don’t know his music really but he certainly seems such an interesting man.

I can’t choose one clear favourite from my favourites but narrowed down to three:

Pulp in Hyde Park, 2011
Turin Brakes acoustic set in a tiny venue in Worthing, 2020
Muse in Lisbon, 2019

So many other brilliant gigs though! Just remember the Proclaimers- so good!

Lady Gaga. She’s unbeatable and her fans make such a loving, friendly crowd.

I didn’t think much about Lagy Gaga until I heard her singing duet with Tony Bennet… awesome voice!

RedRosie · 01/08/2026 14:25

Absolutely loads, from Alice Cooper to Velvet Revolver to The Cure. Bob Dylan at the Albert Hall. Neil Young.

You are all going to sneer now... But a friend and I were at the Eurovision final in Liverpool in 2023, and it was absolutely awesome.

Kerri126 · 01/08/2026 14:25

Faithless - saw then 3 times at 3 very different venues (Manchester Academy, Ally Pally and a festival) and they were flippin amazing each time.

The Prodigy in 1997 at the GMex supported by the Foo Fighters.

Elbow at Somerset House was amazing and R.E.M. in Hyde Park just after the London bombings was brilliant, Michael Stipe was phenomenal and it was a much needed release of a day.

IdenticalHandTwin · 01/08/2026 14:08

Richard Ashcroft at the Manchester Apollo in 2000 💗

James in the late 90s at some underground club in Liverpool, absofuckinlutely amazing 😍 I'm sure the tickets cost us about a tenner. Tim Booth's voice and energy was out of this world, the audience danced like lunatics 💃

It is impossible to have a favourite as they hold different memories, from the first amazing gig I went to, to big stadiums and discovering the support bands, to reasonbly big names playing in small unexpected venues to 180 people.
After just about 40 years offing to gigs, I hopefully have plenty more memories to make!
( There have been a few stinkers in that time span as well!)

I've been to loads since the 70s.. from punk to rock.. top famous artists.. but so far ( because I'm going to see The Cure in 20 days with my 21 year old Grandson.. I've waited 40 plus years.. and I'm sure The Cure will be my favourite ever ever!) My favourite was actually Boyzlife with Keith Duffy and Brian Mcdadden.. I've seen Westlife and Boyzone.. but those two together put on a fantastic show.. so much so l am going to see them again in November.

@SuitcaseAndSecrets I saw The Cure last month with my teenage son. You won't be disappointed.

Green Day.

i wasn’t actually fussed about going but they put on an amazing show live.

Bryan Adams also ranks up there. His live stuff is brilliant.

Going to see Bryan Adam’s in Murcia, Spain in November. Can’t wait. Saw U2 and Simple Minds in the mid 80s at Croke Park in Dublin.

Tangofandango · 01/08/2026 14:31

DPotter · 01/08/2026 12:11

I was there too!

Also Steve Harley in Bradford and U2 at Roundhay Park, Leeds in early 1990s

Twist & Shout - unforgettable!

Mymyi · 01/08/2026 14:03

Nick Cave was one of my favourites too. Last time I saw him was open air in a smallish arena in Western Australia.

INXS at Kuranda Ampitheatre near Cairns was amazing too.

Leonard Cohen was magical whenever I saw him perform. Emotional experiences.

Wish I had seen Leonard Cohen.

Such a sad loss 😢 Faithless were good fun live.

I saw them in Brum on the same tour. Amazing show.

A bit niche for this thread maybe but Immortal Technique at the Drum (RIP) in Aston in 2012. I've never been to a gig with such synergy between the crowd and the stage. Proper goosebumps stuff. The audience felt seen in a way that I don't think I have experienced before or since. The energy in the crowd was something else.

MakeTeaNotWar · 01/08/2026 12:13

@Nickcaveinbrighton I was there too! It was incredible, easily up there with one of my top gigs. Flaming Lips were also fantastic

@MakeTeaNotWar it was great wasn't it. Im still happy today - but also sad its over!

I’ve seen Muse many times live - was that 2012? If so I was there! They are truly amazing live. Just such a shame their current tour tickets are so astronomically expensive 😢

It was 2016. I'd previously seen them (standing) at the SECC but didn't enjoy it due to tinks throwing beer then at the Olympic Stadium London a few years later.
It was a beautiful hot night but I never like a Stadium gig as much as an arena.

My son and I want to see thrm abroad sometime but the cost will probably be prohibitive.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 01/08/2026 14:38

Harry Styles all the way. George Michael back in the day. And Live Aid was one I will always remember

AImportantMermaid · 01/08/2026 14:38

The Killers at Emirates
Wombats at O2 - it was ‘just’ after COVID restrictions had been lifted and the whole arena was ready for a big party. It was just so joyous.
Two door Cinema Club - again at the O2.
Biffy Clyro at an otherwise lackluster Victorious festival. The weather was miserable with that fine misty rain blowing everywhere, and this long haired topless guy in a kilt is BELTING out hard rock as the lighting guys went mad. It felt biblical!

HauntedRavioli · 01/08/2026 14:39

Heilung. They put so much into the sets, costumes and choreography as well as the music. The whole night just felt magical.

NIN peel it back tour last year.

Levellers at Glastonbury in 1994.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 01/08/2026 14:40

Can also tell you my worst-REM at Milton Keynes Bowl by a country mile. He clearly did not want to be there.

I havent seen Bob Dylan nor Neil Young. Would love to, just havent had money at the right time or place. Hoping I havent missed the chance to see Neil Young. Wonder if he will manage another tour.

David Byrne at Manchester Apollo last March. Wasn’t even a particular fan but I was mesmerised!

Almost any Paul Heaton gig but a particular highlight was at Sherwood Forest in about 2018/19?

Jakes Shears Concorde2 , Brighton 2023 (and Scissor Sisters last year Leeds Arena) seeing them again next week at the Piece Hall.

PerdreLeBleu · 01/08/2026 14:47

Re Prince at Maine Road 1992. I know I was there but remember very little about it other than him being on a huge purple bed. I went with an abusive boyfriend and think I’ve blocked the memory totally!

Pedallleur · 01/08/2026 14:48

seen hundreds of shows since 1975 but the absolute standout was Springsteen 1981. Manchester Apollo both nights. Everything you had heard/read about him was true. Astonishing to watch. Went to 2 more on that tour. Seen lots of other acts as well and on their night they can be great.

margegunderson · 01/08/2026 14:51

Nick Cave was brilliant last night - other faves were him and Warren Ellis at Brighton Dome a few years back. Black Pumas in Bristol. Sons of Kemet with Nubya Garcia. Grace Jones a couple of years ago. Terence Trent D’Arby, Sinead O’Connor and Michael Jackson all about 1991. Ezra Collective and Stevie Wonder Hyde Park last year…
