A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Good morning 😁
Happy weekend.

This is very worrying. Already adopted by South Wales Police, despite it just being guidance and only for England.

Trust Swansea to do this 🙄

I finally caught up with Tim Shipman’s article about the Darren Jones messages to and from Mandelson. They’re thoroughly embarrassing. But that’s not the more important thing.

As Shipman says, the absence of documents is startling. It all stinks of cover up. Yet there’s curiously little said about it in the media and silence from this government’s supporters on here. Imagine if this had happened under the Tories! The allegations from the ‘virtuous’ left would have been ferocious.

Hypocrisy by the bucketload from the left - those decent and rule-obsessed crusaders for propriety - as ever.

DancingFerret · 06/06/2026 11:06

I'm actually speechless.

I don't even know where to start with that @DancingFerret and, at the risk of getting bogged down in the details, how is being a green party member the thing you lead with when describing someone - it's just a membership??

Oh, veering of topic, I found the interview between Badenoch and JHB, which I referenced up thread.

Kemi is brilliant here. I like her more and more every time she speaks.

Yes I agree.
Camilla and Tim have covered some of it, but you're right, it has been quiet in the media. Perhaps its just now accepted how bad this govt are so nobody is surprised by it?
You would think that Starmer didn't exist reading this tranche of files.

I know, I am so frustrated by politicians who seem to lack the ability to simultaneously talk and think and so hide behind a wall of approved sound bites. It's so refreshing to see the back and forward bounce of a proper interview, which includes agreement and disagreement, stopping to ask questions, considering and answering the actual question, not reframing the question to afford the opportunity to spew out rehearsed lines.

People are desperate for the authentic and Kemi just is, in spades. Happy to be a fan girl.

Nuthatch26 · 06/06/2026 13:09

@Upstartled
I think you've hit the nail on the head there about her authenticity.
I respect people who have principles, even when I disagree with them. You can't speak with authenticity if your principles change with the weather. Its just not believable.

Yes the robust to-and-fro of the interview was good too, instead of the usual gotcha questions, obfuscation, and soundbite waffle.

We should probably stop gushing now for the sake of others on the thread. 😂

It’s amazing how much KB’s stock has gone up in a year. It seemed like just a few of us saying we liked her, while political commentators mocked her PMQ performance and everyone expected a Jenrick to grab her place. I am so pleased to see her shine.

Same. I’m so pleased she won over him tbh

Upstartled · 06/06/2026 15:40

I have to admit, there was a spot there when it felt like her position was precarious and, much as I liked her, I felt if it was going to happen anyway, it might be better for it to be sooner rather than later. I think it was a good lesson in not being too despondent about these things and that things can change quite wildly in a year.

I was very sceptical at first, but I'm happy to admit that I was wrong to doubt her. She has risen to the occasion beautifully.
Onwards and upwards :-)

I see Andy 'conman' Burnham is up-to is Blairite-Brownite and Corbynite tricks again claiming to take 20% of Business Rates for Pubs this of course will be done by 'increasing benefits' to single mothers with 6 kids!

It seems from another thread I posted on that the VAT on Private Schools is having an enormous effect on places for Townley Girls Grammar In Bexley. This is my post arguing that after they have made Grammar Schools the de-facto choice of the Professionally Affluent the Government will come full-barrel for Grammar Schools. This to ensure every pupil from Gateshead- Plymouth goes to a 'Community' high schools dressed in Compulsory Prison style School Uniforms in Grey !

redange · Today 11:55
I think this is the tip of the ice-berg regarding the effects of VAT on Private Schools will do for access to the most academic schools. Thus, what Phillipson and Reeves have done is make Private and Selective Education more Exclusive and less attainable exactly designed to create angst and envy among families.
This being the exact opposite to what they said they claimed to want to do this is not through Incompetence but deliberate. After the deliberate act to make Grammar Schools more exclusive enables them to enact a narrative to come for 'Grammar Schools' next hence they can now state that Grammar schools have become the de-facto choice for parents with income around £150K-200K who may have been priced out of Independent Education
. These very people being hated by those in Government but still can be controlled or managed through taxation . The 'Goal' for this Government or the Progressives within it being schools that are identical from Doncaster- Sevonoaks this being evident when kids will wear identical school uniforms across the country and look like Prison Uniforms !

Middlerage · 06/06/2026 19:12

That clip on x is a master class on disagreeing and handling a persistent heckler whilst nailing every point - impressive.

@redange completely agree this govt wants complete control of an identikit educational offering, and doesn’t have any understanding that a diverse range of schools is a strength. They seem to want the same for the economy, income levels…

Oh dear ,kier will cut budgets to the NHs ,schools and net zero to fund defence spending (.the times )

Nuthatch26 · 07/06/2026 08:58

Good morning 😁

I was just reading that in The Times @AlternativeView. Welfare??? Thought not.

While the NHS, schools and other key public services will endure budget cuts, critics are likely to seize on Starmer’s earlier refusal to cut the soaring benefits bill to pay for defence spending.

I see they're scrapping plans for the vital upgrades to military housing until after the next election too.

However, a source familiar with the plans told The Sunday Times that ministers may now seek to defer a significant portion — thought to be hundreds of millions of pounds — of the entire £9 billion renovation pledge until after the next election. Military families living with damp, mould and rats may now not see relief until 2029.

Trigger warning: article has photo of Starmer dressed up as a soldier.

Shows their priorities, doesn't it?

Nuthatch26 · 07/06/2026 09:05

I've skipped Lammy, sorry, just couldn't after I watched his interview claiming that he only took the knee after George Floyd because we were in a pandemic. 🤯
I'm hoping to watch Trevor Phillips interview with Jeremy Hunt.

Won't be watching Laura K though, I'm on Sky instead.
