Getting my bedding hung out…I’m old!

Hotafternoon · 21/05/2026 22:31

I share a beach hut with a friend. We'll be spending our time down there looking out towards the Isle of Wight and drinking wine or in my case, G&T and saying how lucky we are to be able to do this. 🏖

Cheers!

Can guarantee my neighbour will be burning shite on his fire so all the chimney smoke and stench will make it impossible to have my washing out, windows open or be out in the garden in general.

I’ll unfortunately be working on the warmest days and DH is helping a family member move house around his shifts, but he has bank holiday Monday off work which is very rare so we’re off on a day trip with the kids.

You’ve just reminded me that we have a neighbour who does this. So much for my plans of strategically opening windows on the cool side of the house, then swapping as the sun moves round. I’ll probably need to keep them all closed.

we have a high of 30 degrees here on Monday so I’ll be doing very little that day. Otherwise I’ll be out early with the dog and then sitting mainly in the shade. I’m hoping it cools off by next Wednesday as I have an evening event I think is likely to be uncomfortable at current forecast temperatures. I’ll be taking my mini fan in my bag.

My favourite temperature is low 20s, warm enough to sit outside in summer clothes but not too hot to do things or to sleep.

Sounds fab! I would be a lot more amenable to heatwaves if I was by the sea!

I'm going to do lots of washing and hang it out. Spend time outside with my dog and donkeys and just feel the warmth on my face.

Then I'm going to come into my stone house, built in the 1800s, and probably sit under a blanket because it is always cold unless the fire is on 🤣. No need for air conditioning in here.

Shinyhappyapple · 21/05/2026 22:58

I wish posters on this thread would say where they live. So many people are saying they aren’t getting high temperatures.

LittleRobins · 21/05/2026 23:01

Trying to keep my autistic son cool as he will only wear clothes which cover his entire body.

Trying not to strangle my neighbours who find any day warmer than 20 degrees a great excuse to play loud music outside until 3am.

Waiting for winter to make a swift return.

Yes, I’m a misery this time of year!

AgnesMcDoo · 21/05/2026 23:01

It’s forecast to reach a high of 21C where I am.

I might turn my central heating off this weekend.

Nothing like as hot here, but lovely nevertheless. I can't wait.

You have my favourite weather there !

Itsjustsoconfusing · 21/05/2026 23:03

Moan that's it "too hot" then moan again when it's cold 🤣

TeenLifeMum · 21/05/2026 23:04

I love the summer and I’m on annual leave all week! I’ve ordered a pool for the kids that arrives tomorrow and I’ve stocked up on ice creams. I might buy some Pimm’s.

Tootyfilou · 21/05/2026 23:30

Grizzling 😁

Nekollama · 21/05/2026 23:38

South-East England here! We're due temps of 30+ for any "not a heatwave" naysayers.

XenoBitch · 21/05/2026 23:42

Wilting indoors and complaining.

MrSchubertWhiskers · 21/05/2026 23:48

It's predicted to reach over 30c where I am so I might end up in the local pool! I have fans and will stick a hot water bottle in the freezer for night time - have one I keep just for freezing to avoid damaging the rubber.
Will buy some ice lollies and try not to melt

vanillasugar2 · 21/05/2026 23:50

Booked a week off work so mostly lazing about reading and getting all the washing done! Copious amounts of suncream

louderthan · 21/05/2026 23:53

Saturday and Sunday: performing in an outdoor theatre show
Monday and Tuesday: outside at the stables all day, will probably ride out on the downs at least once.

I love reasonable warmth but I do understand where you are coming from.

A couple of years ago, when it hit 40C ( very high 30s where I live), I was just getting over a bout of COVID. My DH went and bought a paddling pool. I was laid on the bed in the spare room, blackout blinds down and curtains closed, and all I could hear him do was giggle and shout, 'Come down love, it's amazing'. I don't know how I managed not to be arrested for murder that day.

dudsville · 21/05/2026 23:59

I spent today in wool socks, a wool dress, and wool cardigan, was still cold so slipped on some wool trousers (I was working from home). I had to take a hot bath at one point because it just wasn't doing the trick. So I look forward to being warmer, but I hate sleeping in the warm, so I will get out our portable air con and my fan. I have the week off, so I'll also be grateful I will miss the sweaty commute for these few days.

elliejjtiny · 21/05/2026 23:59

Shove some ice packs down my bra and wash all the bedding and towels.

DrCoconut · 22/05/2026 00:10

Hope a bit of fine weather now doesn't mean 6 weeks of wind and rain for the summer holidays.

EvieBB · 22/05/2026 03:58

Anjelika · 19/05/2026 20:26

Spend as much time outside as I can!

Opposite for me lol ....I can't cope with the heat and overheat sadly :(

Tiddlywinks63 · 22/05/2026 07:32

Just realised our neighbours have their ‘party weekend’ status today. If it’s anything like previous years I’ll be forced to go out because of the shrieking, yelling, loud music going on all day to 4am.
The neighbours the other side of them have booked a weekend away because they can’t stand the uproar.
Luckily I’m deaf, I can largely ignore the drunken antics but I dread the racket.

Heraldry · 22/05/2026 07:36

Nothing as it isn’t going to be here. Not all of the UK gets hot weather! The West of Scotland has had pretty miserable summers since Covid. My fire is still on every night and my kids were in tights yesterday.

HelpMeGetThrough · 22/05/2026 07:57

Is there a heatwave? Most I’m seeing where I am is temperatures around 23 to 27 degrees.

Warm I will admit, but a heatwave, not a chance.
