I’m sitting under a blanket right now 🥶

Overtheatlantic · 16/05/2026 13:54

Feels like it. I’m feeling resentful of the cold. I have sandals to wear ffs! The first pair I’ve been excited about in years. 😕

Tryingtobenormal124 · 16/05/2026 13:54

Its apparently meant to be warm from next Wednesday! Hopefully! Weather men and apparently can't be wrong

FolioQuarto · 16/05/2026 13:58

I washed, aired and put away the winter duvet a couple of weeks ago. So now we're wearing thermal layers to bed under the summer duvet.

Our heating has been on too.

Looking forward to warmer weather at the end of next week.

ThePineapplePicker · 16/05/2026 13:59

Beneath these stones,
Beneath this clay,
Lie bones. They’re Andy Scully’s,
Who, early in the month of May
Took off his winter woollies.

Gettingbysomehow · 16/05/2026 14:02

Its bloody freezing here in Somerset. The cats are lying on the electric blanket becsuse they are cold and Im wearing winter jumpers.
I refuse to turn the heating on.

I was looking at sandals, a summer dress. But blow it I'm not spending the money this year

The thing is, i love the cold weather

But having it now means its just gonna be hot in November 🥺

Ridiculous - bring on the summer so we can get it over with, I say!

I’m sitting under a blanket right now 🥶

My son bought me a wool throw for mother's day. It's in use daily

It's not uncommon - we've had snow in May before and have been able to ski on Helvellyn and in the Cairngorms this late in the season.

It's not just cold though it's grey and dreary, northwest wind too,

Heating on, fire on, winter coat still on. But warm from next week!

Again, not uncommon for May - we're still in spring, not summer.

I’m wearing a cashmere jumper over a cotton tee shirt, heavy winter leggings I recovered from the put-away-for-the-summer bags, socks, sheepskin bootees.
Yesterday I wore a lined raincoat, woolly hat and gloves, to walk into town.
This morning at 2.00am I woke up cold, made a mug of herbal tea and switched
the heating on. We are in South Oxfordshire. Its dull today with high humidity.
I have a casserole in the oven for later, shin beef, carrots onions kidney beans
to have with requested herb dumplings. dumplings! in May!
Also requested is a pudding with custard.
Its mid May, rhymes with dismay.

SirChenjins · 16/05/2026 14:18

Ne'er cast a clout 'til May be out - and this year it's certainly true. Our heating has been on, I'm still not out of thermals, and I'm still wearing my winter coat to walk the dog. Here's hoping the warmer weather hits Edinburgh.

That's in the mountains though not at low and coastal levels.

Exactly. Although, having lived in Edinburgh I've worn winter clothes in the summer months too. That east wind can be very cold, even in the summer!

I was thinking fondly about dumplings the other day.

I think the rhyme refers to the blossom of the May tree, that is, the hawthorn.

I live right by the coast and it's really normal to have hail, storms and cold winds in May - I work outdoors and it happens like clockwork, lol.

Lazingsundayafternoon · 16/05/2026 14:23

I’m also sitting under a blanket with the heating on. So depressing.

justasking111 · 16/05/2026 14:24

We're in Wales the climate is pretty temperate not like London but certainly not like Northern climes

I've had a lovely few days doing some gardening in the sun and now I'm snuggled under my heated throw drinking hot tea. Bah humbug
