Heatwave is on its way thank God. Bring it on. This weather is seriously depressing.

underseige05 · 16/05/2026 19:45

DH has just lit the log burner haven't lit it in about 6 weeks. Ridiculous really, also I'm now gonna have to clean it all out again tomorrow and hopefully not light it again for months 🤣

July and August we get a fair bit of rain in Wales with the prevailing westerlies.

We get more rain in July too, here in the North West, but lets hope for a sunny and warm June.

Teddybear12345678 · 16/05/2026 20:51

Wish it would stay one temperature is all I ask for . My body seems to struggle to regulate between hot and cold . It was 20c last week now it's 13c in south west . Shivering but don't feel cold enough for heating confusing with rain and then sun

UtterlyUseless · 16/05/2026 21:03

Winter duvet and electric blanket still going strong here !

Autumnlife · 16/05/2026 22:46

Winter duvet still on along with brushed cotton bedding and electric blanket. Wearing thermals and winter coat to walk the dogs. Heating is on and I’m snuggling under a heated throw to watch television. Longing for some sunshine now.

WhatNextImScared · 16/05/2026 22:47

I’m so fed up of it. My 8yo has an awful chest cold she can’t shake too. It’s like the middle of winter.

Bluebellsandwishingwells · 16/05/2026 22:51

I have terrible heat intolerance. Couldn’t be happier at the moment 🤗

cinnamonmilkandhoney · 16/05/2026 23:08

I don’t mind the cold so much but I want sun and dry! Sick of grey damp weather

MsGreying · 16/05/2026 23:24

Heating on. Again.
Almost no sunshine for over a week.
Someone I know has tomatoes outside which looks very shocked.

Cold weather is lovely, why do you think so many love autumn and winter, live in cold places?

Cold weather is not lovely.

RampantIvy · 16/05/2026 23:32

I want to get out of my winter clothes and wear summer dresses and sandals.

SuitcaseAndSecrets · 16/05/2026 23:44

I'm so envious I'm not allowed to fly at the moment. 🥹

We’re going away next weekend (UK staycation) next weekend and I’m regretting all the shirts and vests I’ve brought the kids.. they needed to size up in clothes desperately and I’m leaning towards doing another haul just for leggings and long sleeve tops now..

That quote refers also to the Hawthorn blossom, which is out. Gardeners know that frost can happen in May and to shield non hardy annuals. It's a great old saying.

"Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date;" - Sonnet XVIII. Shakespeare.

Thankfully no rough winds this week.

Always meant this to us:

I usually love any excuse to wear a wooly jumper and snuggle under a blanket but this weather is just making me anxious about our upcoming outdoor early June wedding plans...I think it was boiling hot this time last year when we booked it, silly us! Guests will all be in ski jackets and bobble hats at this rate and I will have to wear my puffa jacket over my dress!

placemats · 17/05/2026 20:29

25C this time next week. Can't wait.

Ne'er cast a clout 'til May be out - and this year it's certainly true. Our heating has been on, I'm still not out of thermals, and I'm still wearing my winter coat to walk the dog. Here's hoping the warmer weather hits Edinburgh.

Edited

I remember my beloved l mother quoting this saying years ago.

It was a big thing for Gardeners not to put tender plants out on the gardenn until the weather got better.

Praying for a warmer June.

There is an old English saying "Dont cast a clout til May is out."

An old English phrase meaning to shed or discard an article of clothing. You should never discard your warm winter clothing until the month - or the Hawthorn tree - is completely finished.

I’m wearing a cashmere jumper over a cotton tee shirt, heavy winter leggings I recovered from the put-away-for-the-summer bags, socks, sheepskin bootees.
Yesterday I wore a lined raincoat, woolly hat and gloves, to walk into town.
This morning at 2.00am I woke up cold, made a mug of herbal tea and switched
the heating on. We are in South Oxfordshire. Its dull today with high humidity.
I have a casserole in the oven for later, shin beef, carrots onions kidney beans
to have with requested herb dumplings. dumplings! in May!
Also requested is a pudding with custard.
Its mid May, rhymes with dismay.

We recently moved from South Oxfordshire to North Yorkshire. I’m actually relieved to hear it’s as cold there!

UtterlyUseless · 18/05/2026 07:35

@Whoknowswhatanymore thanks I always assumed may it out meant we are in the month of may but it seems it means till may is over ?
