We recently moved from South Oxfordshire to North Yorkshire. I’m actually relieved to hear it’s as cold there!

Ha! we moved from WY to south Oxfordshire,
As its flat the wind is often cruel.
2deg in the mornings last week!

I miss the softness of the Yorkshire water,
clean fresh air, the moors, dark skies and
excellent charity shops

frozendaisy · 18/05/2026 08:45

We don’t need snoods, winter gloves, thermal layers.

A light decent water/wind proof has been fine for a couple of months.

20 minutes with a stand alone radiator in main room is plenty, heating set around 15C - it hasn’t come on for weeks.

So not quite summer clothing but far from winter clothing.

Anyone would think we only have two seasons!

I went to an outdoor event on Saturday, I had 2 tshirts, a jumper and a waterproof coat on and i was uncomfortably cold for much of the day.

It wasnt as cold as winter but on a (late) spring day I would hope/expect that was enough layers. It was 12° and windy

@frozendaisy

what’s your point? It’s been freezing and miserable for May, end of story

I have terrible heat intolerance. Couldn’t be happier at the moment 🤗

Agree. I'm delighted but it's coming for us this week...😫

ilovemynails · 18/05/2026 09:23

We play a summer sport and I've caught a chill on Friday so I'm full of cold.

MintyPig1989 · 18/05/2026 09:27

Warming up for the half-term 😃

We? kindly speak for yourself, as I really would appreciate being able to decide for myself what I wear and the glorious application of central heating in my home at 21 degrees, thanks awfully …

Who is we? The whole of the UK? Up here in NE Scotland, we had snow in the hills where I live. I have worn thermals several times recently and gloves. Today is currently 8c. I have shed the thermal but it’s the warmest it’s been for a while.

I just think who is in their WINTER clothing a bit over the top.

managingexpectations · 18/05/2026 10:55

I had to scrape my car on Friday and Saturday morning and one morning last week! I usually have my heating off from about March-October it’s on slightly less than through winter but I’m still having to put it on in the evenings.

Tryingtobenormal124 · 16/05/2026 13:54

Its apparently meant to be warm from next Wednesday! Hopefully! Weather men and apparently can't be wrong

I only believe the weatherman if I look out of the window.

Friendlygingercat · 18/05/2026 12:48

I thought it was just me feeling the cold. I have hypothyroidism and this is one of the classic symptoms.

Oh my goodness - scraping the car in May ! ! !
What part of the UK are you in @managingexpectations ?

henlake7 · 18/05/2026 13:42

Ive had my heating off since march (Im in the SE though!) and TBH wearing jumpers doesnt bother me....I bloody love a jumper.
Im still enjoying the cold weather coz down here the hot weather often gets excessive and unnecessary and I will def be complaining about it when it arrives!😄

Your weather in SE does indeed get too hot. But elsewhere it really doesn't.

I'm currently warming my bum on the radiator!!

Fizbosshoes · 18/05/2026 14:05

The summer before last, I recall very few days where it was significantly over 20°, so its not as if we are guaranteed weeks of sweltering weather! (im in a commuter town, probably classified as SE)

Although I guess it depends on how hot is deemed unpleasant.

Summer 2024 was a shocker. I remember the following autumn and winter being really tough as we hadn't really had a let-up from grey chilly weather all year

RampantIvy · 18/05/2026 17:52

This is the weather forecast for us this week. I'm looking forward to this.

It’s very cold, this global warming they keep going on about. And yes, I never want to hear from summer moaners again. And before they start on “worst drought ever”, I haven’t forgotten how this year started,

Edited

Agreed! I can’t stand the summer moaners because, at best, we have 8 weeks of hot weather. Rest of this year is cold, wet and damp.
