Unhinged baby names you considered for your children when pregnant…

What were they?
i have two girls, and I’m a fan in different names - but not made up names, IYKWIM.

when I was pregnant with my first I watched Moulin Rouge, and for quite a while I was convinced that Satine would be the perfect name, but my partner said no.
my second I was desperate for Vivienne, which in in itself is a gorgeous name, but combined with Satine seemed to follow a trend of ‘ladies of the night’ (pretty women) so my partner said no again.

whats the most out there names you considered for your children?

my top boys name was Moss. Not sure I’d have gone through with it.

Banana. I thought it went well with our surname 😂

ThePM · 13/05/2026 22:18

Gaia.

itwasyourshowallalong · 13/05/2026 22:19

Persephone

I maintain that it’s a lovely name but I’d never be brave enough to use it

Ended Up with 2 DSs with very ordinary names

I genuinely really (and still do) like Orlando. Just not the name for a boy from a non posh background growing up around Glasgow though!

My husband had Blair and Leanne on his list of girls names when I was pregnant. Yes this was 2006 not 1986.

The name we did end up using had most of these letters in a different order

MrsKateColumbo · 13/05/2026 22:23

I still secretly love Rupert, not sure if DS could style it out tho

MrsKateColumbo · 13/05/2026 22:24

I also LOVE Sapphire but it gets a unanimous thumbs down whenever I mention it. I still think it's beautiful though.

Ipsevenenabibas · 13/05/2026 22:27

Angelica 😂

nevertrustanyoneagain · 13/05/2026 22:27

The complete name would have been -
Mercedes Serephina Serendipity Ocean Jade

luckily I had a boy🤣

BruceAndNosh · 13/05/2026 22:31

I was set on Alexa. In my defence, this was pre Amazon

My son is called that - I am a very long time fan of Rupert Bear.

Tried to persuade my daughter to call her son Gygax, but no luck🙁. It seemed logical to me as we are all huge D&D fans.

I had a very fine tabby cat called Persephone. Percy to her friends. Vets’ receptionists did struggle with it.

But that's a great name!

ThatshallotBaby · 13/05/2026 22:37

Coco and Octavia. I’m actually cheesed off I was talked out of them tbh Grin
I think I like them more than DD’s actual name!

Lorelai and Augusta. Middle name Lark. Surname has lots of Ls making Lorelai an even worse option. Shockingly dh went along with both!

TeenLifeMum · 13/05/2026 22:40

Blossom. Our surname is a tree so dh ruled it out because “we’re not a garden centre”.

lottlecat · 13/05/2026 22:40

many years ago today thought ‘ Cally’ was a nice name but I also liked Emma and Louise (common middle name of my era) so I decided ‘Cally - Emma - Louise’ would be a good idea. Never mind double barreling, I wanted to triple barrel her name! I did see sense a while before she was born and gave her just the one, very normal and acceptable, forename.

HateThese4Leggedbeasts · 13/05/2026 22:40

Roman or Flynn. I still like Flynn bit have gone off Roman. DH said absolutely no way to both names. I tried to compromise on Dylan but got vetoed again. Ds ended up with a nice traditional name though which I do still like.
